WWE Creative slowing down build ups

    From Wrestlezone:
    (according to the observer :p)
According to The Wrestling Observer, WWE creative has made the decision to slow down the pace of storylines as there have been many complaints concerning the hurried nature of most programs. As we have been seeing for quite some time now, the Shawn Michales/Chris Jericho angle has been playing out for a long time, which is a good example of creative implementing a slower build toward angle blow offs. Originally, creative had plans for Randy Orton to be the leader of the DiBiase, Rhodes and Manu group within 2-3 weeks of its inception, but since then have decided to tease it longer in hopes that a more drawn out storyline will increase it's effectiveness.

What do you think, will this make WWE programming a little more interesting in the future?

    Pffff two week old news.

Anyway in relation to this news, does anyone remember WWE's one week fad of presenting Divas as classy? Exactly. Id rather WWE just don’t sing it bring it so to speak when in comes to that stuff. The WWE creative process is at odds with slowing things down as Vince McMahon is very temperamental and increasingly forgetful when it comes to details.

Like rovert said, that may be what they want right now but all it takes is for Vince to get mad about the ratings one week and it could all change. I wouldn't put too much belief in them yet, not when Cena vs Batista happened so recently

Or Edge vs HHH or even booking the next HBK/Y2J match a month too early IMO.

yeah - that could have had Kane try to take the mask off him during, or after the match and have someone come in for the save, and build up the Mask issue for at least another month. However, they could have Rey sneak the win, thus keeping the mask and enraging Kane, which would allow them to keep the story line. Regardless, I can't see them unmasking Rey - i would think the luchador image too big to do away with.

Nobody wants to see Kane wrestle Mysterio again after Sunday there is an awkwardness about the two of them because of size etc

Title: WWE Creative slowing down build ups

    When actual fact:
They announced what should be a major stipulation SIX DAYS ONLY IN PASSING prior to a PPV

    Your point:

The fact is that they havent built the stipulation up since day one consistantly or properly. They gone

The fact that Rey wears the mask is the premise of the storyline, Kane is only be yacking on about it for 2 months

You dont build up a mask match in six days simple as. That is hotshoting not a slow build.

I don't know that it is hotshoting ...i think it's the next logical step in upping the ante. Even with a slow build I think the mysterio kane storyline has run its course.

Anyway Slow build / fast build is irrelevant when there's a lack of quality to the storylines.

The next LOGICAL step in this feud. LOL logic in this fued give me a break, seriously.

Explain to me what your idea of hotshoting is.

Give me an example of a quality fast build which was better and more successful than if the build was quality slow one?

Hotshoting, as far as I can see it, is coming up with ideas on the spot, or with very little time to go. I think everybody could see that this feud was gonna be building towards a mask stipulation match.

How fast does a build have to be to be considered fast?

Actually I probably won't be able to give you a decent fast build, because my memory of such things is pretty bad! But that doesn't mean they exist.

Hotshoting isnt coming up with ideas but you are close with other thing you said. This isnt about building up feud or its direct per se it is about building up a match and stipulation. It simply isnt true to say everyone could see that this feud was gonna be building towards a mask stipulation match as the direction of it meandered. There hasnt been numerous Raws where people have thought that the storyline was being dropped or ended.

If you dont know the difference or have your own personal understanding of what a fast/slow build is, how can you call both irrelvent even if there is lack of quality to the storylines.

It certainly seemed obvious to me this is where it was all heading. And that this is a transitionary feud to get Rey back up and running and give him some momentum on his return.

Well, for me a fast build would be less than four weeks, building to a ppv match, and then having both wrestlers move on to something else.

Still the stipulation means nothing as it wasnt treated as important as it was only announced in passing six days before the PPV as a late addition. Nor was what the mask means to Rey and Mexican culture emphasised.

This match has been building up for months ever since kane pulled reys mask out of that bag.

The match stipulation has nothing to with the build up really. Unless it was to do with other people, or if it was a gimmick match.

But everybody knew that it would lead to a match between the two!

Have to side with rovert here. 6 days is way too little time to emphasise the huge importance of losing your mask to the Mexican people. Unmasking in Mexico is a BIG deal (see the huge Blue Panther unmasking recently and the rumoured large sum of money it took to make that happen).

It may have been obvious that this was the eventual way they were going to blow of the feud. it doesn't excuse announcing it way to close to the PPV and denying themselves the chance to make the match seem important.

    Good point.

Wonder if the match was announced, the stipulation i mean, say 2 weeks ago, would it have had much of a difference to the programme.

It would have given it the focus it certainly lacked at points.

On the recent R.A.W. or A.W.R. tour (whatever it was called) my 2 and a half your old son answered Chris Masters Masterlock Challenge. Masters wouldn't take the challenge for some reason so we stole his towel on the way out.

Anyway, my son has vowed to say his prayers, take his 'vitamins' etc. so that when he is big and strong he will seek out Masters and have his revenge.

Now that is a slow build.

I wonder will that kid who got kicked out of the first night in the Point in 2007 for smacking Lance Cade in the chest do a run in at the next show in April for revenge:D

Looking back at 80s stuff recently and the builds for fueds then was crazy long, granted less ppvs to cover but the matches meant so much more, Hogan and Savage started falling apart in mid 88 (?) and built right up to Mania 5, unheard of these days

Oh some kid about 13 i'd say was sitting front row (it might have been the second night now i think of it I was in the balcony) stood up when Cade was standing on the guardrail doing the shouty heel thing to the audience and he belted him right in the chest, Murdoch ran over and started shouting at the kids and security escorted him and his 2 mates out, he was getting a bollocking off them the whole it way it was hilarious:D

No - they were dead right to throw him out. You don't put your hands on the talent in that manner. Let one kid away with it and before you know it you will have a riot on your hands.

yeah it was just the 3 of them, I reckon the parents who picked them up were pissed they spent over 200 quid so their kids could watch about a half hour of wrestling

Read about this, and i'm guessing this is where Freddie Prinze Jr comes into the fold.

For the record, this is hardly two week old news, more like four month old news! It's been obvious since around Judgment Day/ GAB that WWE are slowing down the buildups. They're only just admitting it now over the last couple of weeks.
