Ok, so that's Wednesday... I can't see 'Fringe' listed on the TV3 web site?

That's because the TV3 website is woefully ****e.
    SCIENCE FICTION SERIES: Fringe
    On: TV3 (103)
Date: Wednesday 1st October 2008 (starting in 3 days)
Time: 22:00 to 23:30 (1 hour and 30 minutes long)

When all the passengers on a plane die, FBI agent Olivia Dunham investigates the events and while on the investigation her partner, John Scott, almost dies. A desperate Olivia looks for help and finds Dr. Walter Bishop, but he cannot help her because he has been institutionalised. The only way to even question him is with the help of his son Peter. Olivia continues her investigations leading her to Nina Sharp, a manipulative executive. Olivia, Peter and Dr. Bishop will begin to discover what really happened on Flight 627 and begin to uncover a larger truth.

+1 :). Digiguide that Mossy Monk pointed to and http://www.radiotimes.com are far better for listings.

Seems like it's going to air with minimal ads on TV3 if they have it scheduled for 22:00 to 23:30 - I've watched the premiere with no ads and it's just under 1:21 so that only leaves about 9 minutes of ads for the whole thing in the time slot scheduled...

Tis getting a revamp next Wednesday so they're probably not paying much attention to the old site. Not that they ever did i guess...

gonna wait till sunday and watch it in HD on sky1, will never watch another show on tv3 again after their treatment of the shield

yep, it was treated far better by all the other channels who wouldn't show it.

TV3 has my eternal love for introducing Arrested Development to me. Not sure I've watched anything on it since that finished (and eircom league weekly passed on...)

It's pretty class with less commercials; the reason for it is this:

"Along with Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, Fringe is part of a new Fox initiative known as "Remote-Free TV". Episodes of Fringe will be longer than standard dramas on network television. It will air with half the commercials and promo spots, adding about 6 minutes to the shows' run time."

Will the 50 minute episodes (Remote Free TV) continue for the rest of the season? It's great that they're a bit longer.. kinda remind me of the HBO / Showtime shows longer duration.

The initial 3 episodes have all been around 50 minutes in duration.

So it's only the first 3? From now on, they'll be back to 42 minutes.

Apologies, I meant it to come across that I have only seen the first three episodes and they have all been 50 minutes in length, so I suspect they will continue on with that.

    I hope that helps :)

Gonna bump this and change the title to be used solely for discussion of the series for TV3 / Sky1 viewers..

    .. enjoy it tonight all!

Saw some trailers for it last night on the telly. Will definitely be checking it out tonight.

If you can read this, you're too close!

Bit off topic a bit . . . but is the website revamp happening today (1st Oct) or next Wed (8th Oct) do ya know? No change there now today so far anyway.

made by the writers of Lost and actually really good. Has an actor from Lost playing a strangely similar role and has the same music at points. It looks like it will eventually cross with Lost somewhere

maybe one to keep an eye on

Two threads on this forum already about Fringe.

I'm watching it now. It's absolutely appalling. The acting is atrocious (who the hell decided to put the guy from Dawsons Creek in it?), the dialogue is contrived and just plain irratating, the characters are unlikable and the less said about the plot the better.

I was really looking forward to this. I was hoping it'd be a fun X-Files rip off, but it's just bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,385 ✭✭✭Jemmy

I wont burn it yet, will look at few more episodes. Maybe it was just me but thought it seemed to be cropped/edited badly.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 4,726 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzovision

Tonnes of plot holes, loads of continuity errors, some crap acting/dialogue but saying all that I enjoyed it. Would prefer to watch this than prison break at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭Heckler

Hate TV3 since they burned me by only showing the first 2 seasons of Angel then dropping it . Watched Fringe on an "alternative source" . Disappointed with the first episode. Even the endscene music was pure lost. acting was so so. Must say though eps 2 and 3 were better. Could be worth sticking with as long as it doesn't get as fla'd out as Lost.

What are the rules on posting links to tv streaming sites ? Is it a nono ?

    Big no-no....

I watched it tonight because of the trailers (had me gripped!) and because I loved the first two seasons of LOST, but I have mixed feelings about it. It didn't hook me like the pilot episodes of lost, prison break or heroes did but I think its a bit early to judge it. I quite liked Joshua Jackson has the sarccy know-it-all son, he had some great lines! The episode started and finished quite good but there were long dull scenes in between which makes you lose attention somewhat. Not too sure about Anna Torv yet as the lead but its good to see that one episode in and they already have her stripping off!! I'm keeping an open mind and I'll be watching next week. Oh and did anyone else think the preview for next weeks episode was really long?! I was like "stop I dont want see more, its wrong!":pac:

Am a big fan of the X-Files, Lost, etc so decided to watch this tonight. Dunno really for a first episode it didn't grip me and make me feel like I absolutely had to watch it next week. Obviously in shows like this you have to suspend your disbelief somewhat but parts of it just seemed a bit too out there.

On a positive note it did have Anna Torv getting in and out of her underwear.

Anyway I was looking forward to this because of the writers but wasn't impressed at all....the boyfriend on the other hand loved it but he's into shows like that. Might give it another look next week but won't be bothered if I miss it. Pity, expected it to be better.

Someone else has already said this but I really didn't want to see what's happening in next weeks ep.

    I was surprised
That she didn't interiogate her partner 'cause according to the Mad Professor he could still access brain waves up to 6 hours after death
    I was disappointed.

The best thing about it was the father and son. The lead is annoying but not terrible, she can act at least. It's looking like it's going to be a bit too contrived and by the numbers though. I would hope for some serious movement plot wise. If it's going to be the case of constantly running up against closed doors with no end in sight... I'll keep watching but if it stagnates I'm going to cut my losses.

I've a strong feeling that that's exactly what's going to happen. I'm assuming that each episode will have a wierd case that they'll solve in the last 15 minutes, but never really get any info on what's going on. Every now and again we'll get an episode about the main story arc that will create more questions than answers. The two leads will have slowly fall for each other, but never really get it on, thus creating sexual tension. The one armed woman will be just like the Smoking man in X-Files and we'll eventually find out that she's a small cog in a larger operation And finally, we'll find out that the main characters were working for the bad guys all along.

And if Lost has taught me anything, it's that the writers also haven't a clue what's going on. :D

I hope I'm wrong and this gets better and provides something new, but I've a feeling I'm going to be disappointed.

Even though I dont want to judge a whole series by the pilot, I've a feeling that Humanji has got it spot on with his appraisal of the show.

I've come to terms that Lost is going to going frustrate the hell out of me each week, teasing me with glimpses of answers in an effort to draw me back the following week. But if I have to put up with that from two shows, by the SAME WRITERS, then I'm going to get tired of that real fast.

Frankly, I didnt think the writing was up to stratch at all, given who was involved. And I didnt think the characters were even the least bit interesting. The plot felt quite thrown together and at times I wondered how the characters made the leaps of logic that led them from one conclusion to the next.

Because its JJ Abrams, I'll stick with it for a while, but I'm hoping it gives me at least SOME characters to hang on to and root for. The mad doc was mildly amusing, but Torv and Jackson were both as dull as dishwater, with no chemistry at all between them. And even *I* was getting sick of him calling her "sweetheart"

Well, she talks to the partner in a drug induced state and he shows her the guys face. She then goes and makes a mock up image of him on a computer and runs it through some computer data bases to find he was on the plane, the guy with the original infection at the start, or was he? Dun, dun, dun, he has a twin.
They track the guy down and arrest him. He gets leaned on and gives up the ingrediants used in the contaminant. A cure is administored to the agent guy. The man that has been arrested claims that he was in contact/working with some of the protaginists own people and tells her of a recording he made.
She goes off and finds it and it turns out the bad guy had been talking to her partner, the guy she just saved. Meanwhile back at the hospital her partner is good enough to get up and walk about so he promptly kills the little squeeler who's just a couple of doors down (conveniently).
There is a car chase between the girl and guy and the guy crashes and dies without telling her much of anything. She goes back to the father and son and tells them they have to stay because she needs them. The last scene is of the male partners body being wheeled into a room where the one armed lady from Massive Dynamic asks how long he's been dead. They reply about five hours and she tells them to question him. The End.

I hope that is coherent enough for you. I'm bored, it's late, I didn't spell check :D

Have to agree there she's a terrible actor she spent the whole first ep pouting continuously - some of the dialogue is seriously dodgy in this show too but I'll give it a few more weeks to see if it improves seen the first three already.
Worth watching for John Noble alone though Walter's a great character.

I'll give it a few more episodes but the first was dissapointing and the lead actors seem lacklustre. Don't think I could take another lost with multiple and endless story lines

Well, i missed it last night but watched it tonight on anytime. I have to say i liked it tbh. It kept me interested the whole way through. I think i'll watch the next episode and see how it goes from there.

Also, it looked very nice in HD i must say

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,418 ✭✭✭Jip

I really enjoyed it, it's perfect escapist television. I can see how people compare it to the X-Files, and I thought so myself beore reading this thread but the X-Files had some serious dodgy acting, plot holes and you had to leave some of your logic at the door to the living room before watching it but it was still great televsion, well for the first few seasons anyway. I'll be watching from here on in anyway.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,204 ✭✭✭bug

She better just be getting comfortable with the role...

    She was crap!

Whilst watching it I thought to myself now, they could have put "x" actress in that role and they would have carried it.

"Pacey" and the owlfella... made it really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,569 ✭✭✭The Don

I thought that it was ok but nothing special. I'll give it another few episodes to mature. I think a few people might be right about the direction it'll take. Like the different case every week showing another area of Fringe science.
