TBH I can't see anyone paying that, especially to open it as a hotel. Whatever about the condition of the place or the land its on, you'd be plagued with sightseers coming to have a free look. I'd have thought it'd be unusual that this type of visitor would provide big custom to any business. And its not as if there's anything to the story....
after all, to me the story suggests the young wan got up the Damien by some guy they took in for the night. Wasn't socially acceptable so they found an excuse to lock her away ("she went mad") and yer man was long gone.

Agree with you re the young one..but that was in an earlier house anyhow, so if it was the devil ;) the house is long gone..

so hang on, if it's for sale, then people can view it again yeah? I mean, actually get in around the grounds and the house itself??

According to the Enniscorthy Guardian (22/10/08) the house failed to sell at auction. The Auctioneers started the bidding at 1.8 million Euros but with no bids it dropped to 1 million and still with no bids it was witdrawn. According to the paper it was sold to a commercial interest after the auction for an undisclosed sum. I wish them luck with this pile as it is in poor condition and with a glut of hotels it is hard to see what they can do with it.:)

If the rumours of the identity of the buyer are true, I doubt he'll be turning it into a hotel. Not a paying hotel anyway, maybe for all his megastar friends and international leaders. Allegedly.

Shame to see the place in such a state. Let's hope whoever bought it will restore it and not gut it and replace with chrome and plastic

Fantastic pictures, thanks for sharing them as i was there many years ago when it was open and in good repair.Lovely old house and sad to see it let go to this.Having said that it will take some amount of money to restore it.How were you so lucky to get in there.I was at Kilcooley House in Tipperary yesterday, same story as Loftus, but apparently some guy from Monaghan has bought it for 4.5mill.Few pics on Flickr, but no entry to house.

It's on Sherry FitzGerald's website for €625,000 sale agreed - including 63 acres of good farmland, so essentially the house is thrown in free with the land worth €10,000 per acre. You would need a fortune to restore it and I suspect it's heading for an arson attack some day.

    Keep us posted
Best of Luck to the buyers ....................They will need it .

This place has serious history . - I wonder what plans they have for the building .............

A visitor centre ?................. It will end up a ghost estate like all the other one in Ireland ;)

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,869 ✭✭✭Mahatma coat

It would seem that the building has been wrecked inside by nogoodniks

Acording to the buyer the facade has a preservation order but they can do what they want inside it.

The locals in the area do not want any kind of tourism to do with the building. The same with Curracloe they dont want any tourism place regarding Saving Private Ryan.

cant say I ever heard that. sure it used to be a hotel up to the late 80's. and it would be a big boost to have a good business out there for all in the local area. would have heard the complete opposite in regards to it, and people there hoping it would sell and something would be done with it and be restored as a tourist spot in some shape or form.

They wouldnt mind it to be a hotel Im sure but its all the haunting\devil stories to do with the place there sick of people coming down asking about ghosts and ghouls and all that crap.
