I was leaving it to Basq too, I didnt want to steal his thunder. There will be bannings! :pac:

Very good double episode, with black comedy at the very end - well pitch black comedy would describe it better
    (is that guy paralyzed?!)

    More thoughts later!

Is Channel 6 the only channel to show The US Office?

    (is that guy paralyzed?!)

Don't think so - it was more to make the point that
Toby can't even enjoy his Costa Rican getaway...

As far as I know yes - don't know which season they are in at the moment though - 3 I think?

Such a great episode - I did not see
well, the big one coming, with Jim proposing but I like that they got it out of the way right from the get go, rather than a whole season of will they split up or won't they, etc?

The Michael-Holly-Jan dynamic is getting weirder by the moment...

Ryan's return! And him trying to act cool and be above it all, but everything kinda going sour on him - loved the notebook with people on his s**t list :D

And as usual, the line of the night goes to Creed:
Kelly: Creed sold me a tape worm. Creed: That wasn't a tape worm. :D

Great stuff - the hour long format still feels a bit long to me, but this was a quality episode pretty much all the way through. It's good to have it back.

I'm still waiting for Channel 6 to show season 4! :(

Paramount show it as well. Possibly on Paramount 2

BTW it was cracking throughout. Great return
    I think I never really processd 9/11

Where that that beard come from? I'd have sworn it wasn't there at the start of the episode ???

And LOL @ the tape worm :D

    too long.
It was a double-episode season opener

The episode covered around 8 weeks of elapsed time, so Michael was growing / shaving his goatee in response to Ryan.

I hope they don't pick up on that bloke flirting with Pam in college, I've really had enough of the will they-won't they shíte. Hopefully, the proposal will have put that to bed, so to speak.

Stanley's "Black Power" salute at the end was a interesting touch, esp. to tie in with the photo of him as a young man.

I've not used spoiler tags, it's in the topic title.

    I agree completely.

I didn't think it was quite back to its best, but it certainly had its moments. Ryan being back in the office will be really interesting. Creed is back to his usual self - "that wasn't a tape worm" :D Dwight making Phyllis walk back to the office.

Anyone know how long the episodes are going to be? Last season there were a few 40 minute lengths near the start of the season, and it fluctuated a good bit iirc.

I have a feeling that the longer episodes last year were in response to the writers strike or something... I saw also that this episode was a double episode, so half hour episodes from here on out i'd say...

Does anyone else feel sorry for Andy Bernard?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,400 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

Last year they were set for 5 "double" episodes and 20 normal ones. Its just felt more because we ended up not having near the 20 half hour episodes. I don't think there are as many doubles scheduled for this year.

The vice presidential debate is next Thursday at 9 on NBC so there's no office

I thought they vanished once the rest of the NBC comedies came back - '30 Rock' and 'Scrubs'. I'm assuming it will be the same this year?

This year however, Season 8 of Scrubs has landed on ABC so that's one sitcom down from the Thursday block and 30 Rock is one of the last shows to return, on the 30th of October - so plenty of room for doubles this year though I have no idea if they have many more scheduled or not.

Really enjoyed the new episode. Andy Bernard's "wet tuna" remark had me on the floor laughing.

I thought there was a continuity glitch ? Micheal started without a goatee, then grew one in homage to Ryan, then shaved it off again. But I think there was a scene when he should have had one, when it was missing.

Dwight with his booty call beeper - LMAO.

I watched it here in the States (my bandwidth gets a break for once!)
Loved the scene with Pam on the webcam and Michael walking around with the laptop asking her to help the new receptionist, and her asking to be given back to Jim

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,617 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

While I love the prospect of 40 minute episodes, they rarely live up to the promise of 40 minutes of laughs. I think regular episodes are better.

    Not a bad opener though...

Which site is best to watch this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

    Ahem.

You can only watch it on NBC.com, and even then you have to be based in the US.

Anyways...for me it about a 3/5 for the episode. Tis mad how much like Michael, Holly is. The rap was hilarious.

Ryan and his List was pretty funny too.

Ryan: Jim. I wanted to apologize...for how I treated you last year. I lost sight of myself and now that I've quit the rat race I've realized there's so much more to life than being the youngest VP in the company's history. I've even started volunteering. Giving back to the community.
Jim: Well that's great. [shakes Ryan's hand] You're talking about your court ordered community service?
Ryan: I don't need a judge to tell me to keep my community clean.
    Jim: But he did, right?
    Ryan: Alright.
    Jim: Alright.
[cuts to Ryan in an interview, where writes down Jim's name on a revenge list]

    :D

I'd forgotten about this. A bit reminiscent of Season 3 when Michael and Dwight put together the 'Welcome to Scranton' video for the Stamford Branch.

In general I wasnt totally crazy about the new episode. It was good, but not quite as good as I hoped it would be. Kelly was great as always, and I'm glad to see Ryan back in the office.

And excuse the totally sappy girly moment.... but holy crap. Best. Proposal. Ever. :D

great ep, one of the best ever

this is the first time after how many episodes that we've seen the new hr woman do any work,i was wondering what her prupose on the show was apart from being a michael clone, i had forgotten that michael would always have difficulty with the hr because she answered to corporate, even if he liked her.

    not mentioning anynames

    the beef discount

    dwights unethical peronsal time ;)

    we just need the signatures.

Yeah, class episode - the ~20 minute format is so much better for this show. Jim's "Time Theft" plot with Dwight was hilarious (drinking the soda, then using the bottle to pee in :D) leading up to the "Where were you for 19 minutes?" and Dwight's smirk at the camera...

My favorite bit though was the corporate HR guy's whole reaction to the Meredith issue - so true...

Yeah, a brilliant new charachter. Really settling in.

    Good stuff all round

    I don't know..

I read all the rave reviews for the episode and I was waiting for a good one but it really was just decent, but not amazing either. I think this season has been pretty hit and miss so far.

My personal favourite bit of the episode by a mile though:

Good episode, an improvement on Episode 1 IMO.

Jim talking about BSG was my favourite part as well :D

Finally caught up with my American shows after being on Holidays.

The Office has been average at best. I wonder are the struggling to keep it fresh

Want to be the first to say how fantastic the last few minutes of tonight's Ep 3 was and a great episode overall. Comedy writing aside they certainly can do light drama when they want to as well. 2 thumbs up!

New episode was very good alright. Dwight giving birth to the melon at the start :D

    Yeah, have to agree.
Last couple of scenes were bang on.

That scene with Michael and Holly at the end- was she about to cry? - She looked like it.

And the one on the phones with Pam leaving the laundry place...took me a few seconds to cop what was going on.

    Excellent episode.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

I didn't think it was as funny as usual, but agree, the final few scenes were very well done as far as the drama side of the show goes... The Michael-Jan-Holly situation almost seems like Pam-Roy-Jim. Pam was originally stuck with Roy, a complete jerk, but Jim was right there all along - could Michael find something similar with Holly? They have been writing her character as his complete soulmate...

Loved Creed's comment about Jan giving birth in the bath - "it must have been like the incoming tide at Omaha beach"

It's waning a bit this season.

Maybe it has jumped the shark?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,438 ✭✭✭Morgans

As a huge fan of the program I want it to be good, but it has been very very hit and miss for the last year. Some episodes are barely funny - maybe one line or two. Think they may be stretched by the increased workload. Dwight in the latest episode was ridiculous - not in a ridiculously funny kind of way - just ridiculous. "My bomb shelter cost $1200 so therefore...." Seem to be forcing Dwight moments now.

The phone calls at the end was clever but that was about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

Tonight's episode, "Crime Aid" was really good IMO. Many funny moments through out the episode (the look Stanley gives Michael when he says they should auction people off like in the olden days, Creed mentioning what happens when someone steals from him, Ryan trying to hide from David Wallace and too many other things to mention). Plus they advanced the Jim-Pam drama (with the uncomfortable Jim-Roy meet up) and David Wallace finding out about Michael-Holly like that... Really enjoyed it.

Contender, with Jim's description of BSG, for best LOL moment of this season.

Are Jum and Pam gona die a death? They need to sort that out. Its going on to long

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

Really enjoyed tonight's episode - overall solid, though a bit heavy on the Michael/Holly and Jim/Pam drama. Creed (and well, Kevin and Dwight) as the Joker was a standout moment... the Dwight/Andy rivalry was bit ridiculous though. And it seems Daryl has a soft spot for Michael after all, given all the trouble he went to for him...
