    Topic?

For me, it has to be the complete Samba Di Amigo boxed version with maracas for the Dreamcast. All unopened and unsullied and all that. I keep meaning to take it out some day and have a go.

(And now I've just found that it's coming out for the Wii shortly, so I might never need to open it)

I know I've posted this picture countless times but meh, wtf..it's the pride of my collection. My whole Megadrive collection :)

    P4120665.jpg

    And then my new baby

    P9200274.jpg

What I want to do is combine the two.

Rig a megadrive up to JAMMA. So then I can play all those lovely games on my cab :)

Pride of my Nintendo collection is my copy of Chrono Trigger for the snes. It's not exactly rare but it's such a great game to have in it's original form.

Have a mint copy of Zelda for the NES. Final Fight Guy for the snes. Perfect copy of Vib Ribbon for the ps1...I dunno. I'm going to stop now before I start listing things.

I think the two things that stand out in my collection are my pristine pal copy of Suikoden 2 which is extraordinarily rare and my copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga (PAL). Got PDS for about 20 euros and even if it isn't boxed the discs are immacualte and it's nice having a copy of your favourite game ever.

Also have a copy of Gunstar Heroes after mine got nicked. My megadrive collection is quite good but I have to say my Playstation and PS2 collections are fantastic if I do say so myself.

Really love my Sega Saturn :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 384 ✭✭appleidog

Nice, Panzeer dragoon is a nice game, and Gunstar is cool, and 20 is pretty good for unboxed anyway.

Unfortunately no, I don't have Alien Soldier. Just too damn expensive.

I don't really like spending large amounts of money on Megadrive games. New releases like Pier Solar would be an extreme exception.

I think my most expensive recent purchase for it was a mint Jap Golden Axe 3 for about €30. Just had to complete the set!

MUSHA was about the same price too.

You have 70+ gamecube games? I think I have 6. It's one console I really missed out on completely unfortunately. Guess you can't collect em all.

About how much would something like that set you back? It's easily my favourite game of all time... but I've only ever played it in ROM format. I'd love to have an original copy.

Cart only, You'll get it for about 45-60 dollars on ebay.com. I think mine was toward the lower end of that scale.

Boxed and you're talking a lot more. at least $110. But I've seen it sell for $150+.

One thing to watch out for is it uses a battery to save the files. So if you do get a copy, you might want to look into replacing it.

    It's fairly easy to do.

not that much if you get it from the states, and just to inform you that there is a chrono trigger game coming to the ds.

Unfortunately I was always a computer kid...

    Vic 20 - C64 - Amiga 500

Those magnetic tapes and disks just don't stand the test of time... plus Amiga game boxes are gigantic so there is no hope of keeping the things about the house.

The first console I actually owned was a Dreamcast. But I bought that just as I was starting to earn money for the first time in my life so I have pretty much everything for it including Samba Di Amigo... of course it's frickin' opened though... just could say no to that monkey.

Have 3 Dreamcast consoles in total as my original one was starting to act up... was getting some scary glitches in Shemue with it.

I'd probably have what would be considered a fairly vast collection of Gamecube titles too. Have the broadband modem for it as well as I was a huge Phantasy Star Online fan.

Highlights in that collection might be Zelda: 4 Swords. I have 3 GBA SPs and link up cables too... I even have the multi palyer Pac Man game that came with some crappy Namco racing game.

One of my most expensive retro related purchases would probably be my X-arcade sticks for use with MAME.

not really sure if I have a single count as my pride of the collection, as I kinda like all of it. However like MonkeyFudge I was all about the computers, I started with a spectrum 48K =) which is long since sold. Alot of my collection has only really been in the last few years

    Nintendo
1 X NES (not sure what games I have for it)
2 X SNES (stack of games, including a boxed MarioKart)
1 X N64 with pretty much all the decent games for it
2 X Gamecube (plenty of games highlights being complete Resi collection and Ikaruga and 2 sets of Bongos ;) )
1 X Original Gameboy purchased in Japan in the late 80s
    1 X Gameboy color
    2 X Gameboy Advance
    1 X Gameboy Advance SP
1 X Original DS ordered direct from Nintendo
    1 X DS Lite

    Sega
1 X Megadrive (boxed with a stack of games)
1 X Saturn (boxed with a stack of games, including Knights, and the knights controller boxed)
1 X Dreamcast (Soul Caliber being a personal highlight)

    Also have lurking about a PS1, PS2, 2 Xboxes, 1 360 and a PSP somewhere.

I hope my upcoming trip adds a few toys to the collection, I really want a neogeo !!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 384 ✭✭appleidog

with knights i assume you means Nights not clockwork knights, the game in 1994, that is pretty good. my saturn though everybody has to get guardian heores for that, fantastic, but my current saturn collection consists, of Marvel vs streetfighter, xmen vs streetfighter, nights, xmas nights, puzzlefighter, Metal slug, in the hunt discworld, discworld 2 (damn rare to find  probably the single best saturn game ive got.

and 01s1n i think that people pay to much for chrono trigger it isn't that rare just like Radiant silvergun isnt that rare just wanted, if you are patient you can get both for very cheap. now if it was terranigma or Rendering rangers but chrono trigger, dunno and it was released for the playstation 1 with better graphics and added FMV.

    Oh I totally agree.

See the problem is that in reality, the majority of games aren't price on their rarity. It's to do with demand. Chrono Trigger has many many many copies floating about. As does Streets of rage 3. Secret of Mana. Most of the Final Fantasy games. I could go on and on. They are all set at artificially high prices online because of the demand. Also, as they are so popular, you rarely see the prices lowered because sellers know people will pay.

On the other hand, you can get a lot of the 'real' rare games cheap because people have never heard of them.

Obviously, now and again, you get a combination of the two. Like Alien Soldier, Suikoden II, ICO etc.

I got my copy of Suikoden 2 for free. I'd say a PAL copy could go for nearly 300 euro on ebay :) It's great having family in Konami!

Got a shed load of promo games from him as well. Not sure if they are worth much because the packaging isn't the best (if they even come in them). Have Castlevania Symphony of the Night and Vandal Hearts 2 on promo which are both quite rare games.

but because they are promo they aren't worth no where near as much, but still nice games to have.

Although Ive given up collecting games and rarities I still have some good stuff I couldn't let go and the best I still have is Radiant Silvergun. It's in good condition but it has been played a lot as I just love it and still play it every now and again.

I'm not listing everything again, and my games room is in a right state at the mo so no pix of that either.
The pride of my little collection has to be my Nuon, a system dead as a dodos toenails but that plays host to Tempest 3000, one of the best shooters ever to emerge from Jeff Minters head.
The machine cost me an arm and a leg to import, the game too, but boy, was it worth it!

The Vectrex is also pretty cool, sadly I don't have any overlays for it but I do own a VecFlash ram cart, made by Richard Hutchinson, that contains every game ever released for it along with most of the great homebrew too.

I also have one of R. Hutchinsons flash cart for the Virtual Boy, that allows me to play any game ever released for the much maligned system, although I already own a pretty good selection of titles for it,
    Red Alarm
    Vertical Force
    Galactic Pinball
    Golf
    V Tetris
    Mario Tennis
    Mario Clash
    WarioLand
    Panic Bomber
    Baseball.

I really want Tokyo Bus Guide 2 for the jap PS2, my brother has it and I'm trying to convince him to donate it to my little museum in the attic!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,332 ✭✭✭valleyoftheunos

I feel a little disingenuous referring to what I have as a collection as its more of an accumulation but of all of them I think Joust and my Atari 2600 is the stand out purely because of the system is just so freaking old at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 178 ✭✭Crowman

    No Real Order..

    -Phantasy star 1 to 4
-Mint copy of Chronotrigger for Snes
-Mint copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga for Saturn
    -Alien Vs Preditor for Jaguar

The horrible thing is that the console that gave me more pleasure than anything else has to be the PS2, not really retro, at least not yet.
And the best that has had offer so far has been GTAIII, Warhammer Firewarrior and God Of War, and the very best has been Ico, so then Ico would have to be the pride of my collection.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 384 ✭✭appleidog

The ps2 has an amazing colletion of games, plus with all the retro remakes, a modded ps2 is better then the saturn/dreamcast ect.....

    NEVER! :)

Pride of my very small collection would be my "TEST" PS2 - like a game debug unit and also my Xbox1 Debug unit - the only original part of the Xbox1 is now the case I'm sad to say.

Xbox1 Debug unit looks like this http://www.alten8.com/retrosoft/images/xbox1.jpeg
PS2 'TEST' Debug unit looks the same as the middle one pictured here http://assemblergames.com/images/testunits/tops.jpg

Used to be my Nomad until I broke it for the second ****ing time :/ I suppose it's my Resi collection -

    IMGP0277.jpg

I just got a freeloader disc for the Gamecube, so I can play Nemesis now (it's NTSC), I like having the NTSC version of Director's Cut with the dual shock because they changed the entire soundtrack to the game. It's not as good as the original though.

Having Resi 2 on the Game.com would tarnish the collection irreparably its a terrible piece of ****. I've actually never shopped on eBay, probably for the best because I've a very hollow feeling that can only be soothed by the acquirement of more stuff. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be rocking back and forth by the window while cleaning my rifle.

I'm so envious of all your collections, mine pales in comparison. Maybe I should have gotten a job instead of going back to college. My own jamma cabinet and some original staurn games would ease the pain of any horrible job :D especially if it had R-type and Street Fighter 2.

I was unlucky enough to see the game.com in a Christmas catalog when I was younger.

'OMFG! THAT LOOKS KEWL!! Dear Santa...'

Suffice to say, it was far from cool. The touch screen was about the only saving factor it had. At even at that, there werent exactly any decent games to use it with.

Actually no, the stylus was really nice. But to be honest, that's fairly clutching at straws!

And if you can, never go near ebay. EVER! It's the most addictive money draining thing I've ever come across. I'm on well over 200 transactions in the last few years. My wallet hurts :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 384 ✭✭appleidog

Technically the game.com was Revolutionary, Touch screen, internet, 2 slots umm sounds a bit like ummmm. ummmm the DS doesnt it. I was going to get one a while back, ive had all the obscure handhelds like Gizmondo man fantastic machine.

anywhom started off as a horror collection in my photo then just added a bit more to it some of my prized ps2 and ps1 collection.

Apart from all the drudge I have up in my parents attic... Dreamcast, Atari ST, Atari2600, Xbox, Gamecube, X-Arcade joystick, probably the only 3 rare things I still own are:
    • Original Jelly Monsters (extremely good Pacman clone) cart for Vic20
    • Original tape version of Zaxxon for C64. First game I ever bought on the C64. Best home computer system ever !!
    • Original tap version of Jeff Minters - Meta Galactic Llamas Battle at the Edge of Time for Vic20.

I really do hate ps1 games for that. Seems I break at least one every time I'm trying to sort through my collection.

God help you if you ever drop one. Cover pops off and shatters and the disc falls out an bounces all over the room. Worst design ever.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 384 ✭✭appleidog

Whats wrong with PAL Psone collections, lets see try and get rapid reload American  oh wait thats right you can't. See don't go hating On Pal games sure the cases crack, but they are distinctive and they were needed for the manual having multiple languages in them.

Nothing wrong with PAL ps1 collections. I Have about 100 myself. Some all time classic games. I just really hate jewel cases. Always have. Playstation games. CDs. They're horrible.

I'm particularly hateful toward them at the moment as I recently had to move my collection and one dropped from quite high. (I was putting them all up in the top part of a wardrobe)

I mean they'd be decent if the case broke but saved the disc. But no, it flew out across the room. Just really badly designed.

    Clamshell all the way! ;)

Yeah, I have over 100 PS games and the cases are quite brittle, damn them!
At least PS2 cases will last longer than the console will!
I love my PS games, Wipeout 3SE, KulaWorld, Silent Hill and VibRibbon to name just a few.
My PS2 collection is rather big, over 130 titles so far, and only ones I like, no filler, all killer.
Aside from Golden Age Of Racing, not sure what I was thinking of there....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 384 ✭✭appleidog

Ciderman do you actually like Kulaworld, i have that and Vib ribbon but unboxed:(:(:(. and Kulaworld i think is very very bad, Though Vib ribbon probably the best ps1 game ever made fantastic, I was wondering did you put kulaworld there cause you liked it or for wow factor. :p

My Vib Ribbon cost €2.50 a couple of years ago when gamestop were selling all their ps1 stock off for nothing. Totally mint. Poster and everything. Couldn't believe it.

Got an absolute load of great games for nothing. Think I got Devil Dice in the same lot as Vib Ribbon actually.

    I got ff6 in there too :D

They had ff IX in the one in dun laoghaire but I had no money on me at the time. Was quite annoying actually as it was only about 3 euro.

I more or less went into the gamestop in Bray and bought every ps1 game they had. Was like finding gold.

I like Kula World. now, it's been a while since I fired that one up but I remember enjoying it last time I got into it,
I don't have Kurushi though, Kurushi Final is easy to find, the original is quite rare I find.

Wow factor goes to my combined MegaCD and Megadrive the CD-X.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 276 ✭✭Dark Savior

I sadly don't seem to have anything in my collection that has the "wow" factor, maybe the boxed and in mint contition Jap Nights Into Dreams multi controller and game? or a boxed Hyperboy?.

As far a cracked Ps1 cases,I never had too much trouble with them and found the Dreamcast cases far far worse.
