    It looks like it's
going to be set in Africa for the most part (wtf?)
which is a little different to what we're used to. And the movie format means we may lose a lot of what's great about 24 (the clock, important things happening at about five minutes to the hour etc).

But I like the look of the trailer, some decent action scenes in there.

Pity Kim's not going to be in it.

    LOL I love this show.

If was aiming a gun at Jack and he turn to me and said "I know your scare, trust me, I won't hurt you.... " I would have to kill him, because you know Jack answers to no one. :)

Anyone know if RTE is going to show Redemption and then the new series of 24?

(Sorry I've been out of the country for a couple of years so I don't know what series RTE show anymore - just glad they are showing prison break at pretty much the same time as the US...RTE rocks!)

    Ta.

Unfortunately RTE gave up on 24 after season 4 (in fairness it wasn't a bad reason, pity they missed out on season 5). Initally they kept up with Sky and then moved it to Saturday Nights and then 2 mondays at around midnight for the remainder of the series.

Season 5 and 6 where shown about 3 months after Sky, the final episodes now seem to coincide with the DVD release.

I can't wait for 24: Redemption! Only a couple of days to go! I'm not sure I like the idea of changing locations, though. Wasn't really a big fan of the whole Mexico story arc in Season 3. Apparently, the first 40 minutes or so is a bit slow, but then the action starts. GO JACK!

I'm new here, by the way.

    Welcome, Failte.

I can imagine Jacking getting back to the states from Africa in 2 hours or less.

It will be good to see it back all the same :) Will this and Season 8 be the end of jack and 24? 8 years! or as I like to say 8 of the longest days of Jack Bauer's life.

It's set in Africa, which yes is a little strange but I'm sure it'll make sense once we actually see it. It's to bridge seasons six and seven.

I don't know if this is widely known, but back in August 2007 shooting for Season 7 had to be delayed until September which is very rare for a US show as they start shooting a new series in August. The reason was because they had this Africa story line sorted out and wanted to go with it for the 7th Season. However, as said here, Jack would have had to have been absent for a few episodes to get back to America from Africa. So they had to hastily scrap the Africa storyline, start afresh with the Tony idea and started filming in September 07. The forthcoming season seems to have been hit by misfourtune as wild fire delayed filming even more, and then the writer's strike started, swiftly followed by Keifer's imprisonment. So the writers are glad to finally go back with this Africa story as it's been on the back-burner for over a year.

So I hope this story will be worth the wait.

I'm really looking forward to this. The closer it gets, the more I realise that the other shows I watch are just to fill the 24 gap. I (and many others) have been slumming it!

I can't wait for this ever since Kiefer pretty much "apologised" for last season at the start of the trailer for season 7!

A movie? It is a double episode and the first half was really ****. The 2nd half a bit better. Looks like it could be a good season.

It was more of a build up than a standalone movie. I was hoping for the latter :(. It was still good though just felt a bit lacking.

Was only okay. Nice to get back into it but could have been better. Only threw up a few minor curveballs for the new season but it's nothing we've never seen before. The action parts were good but it did drag a little. Nice to see Jack in a new environment though. Suited him well!
And yeah, what was with that accent, Irish one minute, scottish, then British. The yanks never can distinguish!

    Very half assed Irish?

This was really dissapointing, a completely missed oppertunity to do something interesting with the francise. The plot was more or less recycled from a Bruce Willis film from the early 00s called Tears of the Sun (which was much better). Does not bode well for series 7, but I live in hope.

The character is too big for the show. Dont get me wrong, I have no problem with fitting a story/generic baddie vehicle around some top jackery, but sometimes its just painful to remember what it was.

It all died with George Mason...

I set the Sky+ for it.. but really don't know if I'm arsed.

Gonna watch Let The Right One In instead.

Jeez is wasn't that bad. It was clearly just to set us up for season 7. Like those 5 or 10 minute pre season things they used to do but instead its Jack saving a load of African kids. :p Some fun action scenes, and it was all a bit slow at times but again that's just because it was a set up for the season.

I wasn't totally let down. I enjoyed from a "its only setting up the series" point of veiw but if they are to do a movie the really need to up the ante. i like how it set up the next series tho ( wont say anything in case people havent seen it yet)

i didnt notice a "damnnit" throughout i could be wrong tho

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

there was a "damnit Frank" and a "damnit Karl" at least once each.

there were also load of bauerisms there too, god how i missed them.

I don't know why some of you were expecting some epic speilberg masterpiece - it was a 80 minute set-up for the next season, not something they made to be the next Star Wars or something.

I enjoyed it (i think my expectations were a bit lower then most) and i would rather they did it like this and get straight down to business from the off in the new season. It's setup nicely for some good plot lines.

Is Peter MacNicol signed up for season 7?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,563 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Yeah not a great double episode alright. Jack just seemed out of place running around the African bush and the story itself wasn't that interesting. Jack rescues a load of kids. Ho hum. Still I expect the upcoming season to be as entertaining as usual.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 24,028 Mod ✭✭✭✭Clareman

I reckon it was a 2 hour trailer for the next series, if that's what they are going for, then great show, it adds some new characters and plot lines aswell as bringing Jack back to the states.

If it was a standalone movie, them meh, I could have just put in Farcry 2 or watched Tears of the Sun instead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,838 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

It certainly is not a stand-alone movie - given the fact the end brings Jack back to America for the 'trial' we see in the trailers for the new season. Also, if it was a standalone movie it would have left way too many loose ends. It is just a longer version of the 15 minute prolouges they have done before previous seasons.

It was slower paced than I would have liked, and I fet the pay off with the bad guys was very weakly written, but then it has set up a number of characters and plot points for the new season.

    So, happy enough overall.

It lagged a bit towards the end and it was fairly obvious what was going to happen. Nice to see Jack back though and he cried man tears (again).

    Worth the Wait
This was never supposed to be the 24 Movie everyone has been waiting for. It was a lead in to the new series. Only done because there was such a long gap between day 6 and 7 and the producers need to get people in the mood for it again. I wasn't expecting a brilliant standalone movie and got exactly what I expected, a 2 hour tv episode that nicely sets up Day 7. It means they can get right into it in day 7 and don't have go spend 3 or 4 hours setting it up.

Did anyone else notice the camerman in the woods just after they started running from the helicopter?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,297 ✭✭✭Ron DMC

I enjoyed that immensely. Obviously not a standalone, but a good addition to the series, and a perfect filler in the run-up to January. Might rewatch it again after Christmas to get me in the mood.

Having it set outside the states was weird I must say, but Jack was still his good old self and somehow it all just clicked.

Loved the bit where Jack says to the UN guy:
Get in the bunker with the other children
    .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,058 ✭✭✭Unearthly

Loved the action scenes with Jack taking on everyone again, kinda thankful for the long break now as I found that refreshing again :D

I thought the second half was very similar to the Bruce Willis film "16 Blocks" when, as a cop, he needs to take a witness to a court 16 blocks away to testify and baddies try to stop them en route. Substitute court for the Embassy and it's 24: Redemption.

I actually enjoyed it, yea cheesy in parts but its 24 its going to be. I was getting really bored of the whole terrorists trying to wipe out America plot which was getting quiet old, so I'm happy they are taking a new spin on things hopefully it lasts for the season!!!

Really enjoyed this. It was like 24 the game a few years ago. Not great but a good filler between seasons to explain things you thought you missed out on.
Good to get me in the mood for it again.
I never thought i would miss the bits in CTU and the phones constantly ringing.

If only i could remember what happened in season6!
