I saw that too, I confirmed from Sky that it is for existing customers as well. Subject to a 12 Months Contract to Sky HD at €15 a month + your normal package charges for all customers. Normal Terms and Conditions apply.

have you tried that before? when I ordered it I told them I wanted a Pace box. When the Installer came he got a thompson. I called to complain and cancel and they said Sky chooses your equipment. Very few Pace boxes around I guess.

Once you cancel they keep your details on file for 12 months, blacklist you. Unless you subscribe again with some else name.
Thats what I was told. Seems to be true.

Was only thinking today about getting Sky+ HD. I currently have UPC DVR digital package. I know this is probably a stupid question but is Sky+ HD any good and is it worth the money?? :o
That deal the OP mentioned is very good. I'm not sure if my contract with UPC is up cos I added on extra channels and I think that extends my contact??

(im on sky sports package so for me it would be brilliant)

sky sports is suppose to be brilliant on it

    not sure about the upc

Yea I've a HD Ready TV. I have the basic package with a few extra channels and the DVR box. Wouldn't be into the sports channels or movie channels. The only extra cost as far as I can tell is the once-off fee for the box itself.

Not worth it for you! you will hardly get any HD channels worth the subscription of €15 a month!

An engineer call out is €50! If you have it installed or not. They take your debit or credit card details before you order. I'll be very surprised if they didn't ask you for those details. Unless they already have them on file. The HD box is €74.50 and Standard Installation is €50. They allow you to choose an installation date from a list of available dates so I doubt you can ask the engineer to cancel. Maybe I am pessimistic
When if your installation date? Do let me know how it goes? Maybe I'll try it later.

But isn't there more HD channels apart from the sports and movie ones?

Another question...would I need a live telephone line to order box office movies? My telephone line isn't active. Can I order box office through the internet or some other way?

No you can't through internet. I'm not sure if this option is still available but you can call the sky box office number in advance and tell them what you want to watch.

That's what this offer is about. To celebrate 8 new HD channels the Sky HD Box is now half price.

Small Print. You need to subscribe to the movies package to get those 8 channels :D

I'm tempted to go ahead and get this myself, but what happens to your current Sky+ box if you have one ? Does it basically turn into a brick as your card is paired with the new box ? I'm sure it would be a problem for many peopl if so as they, like me, have lots out recordins that haven't been viewed yet.

you can sell the box thats what im doing (doesnt turn into a brick)

    and saw this on avforums

I meant a brick from the point of view of being able to watch programs already on it. Copy+ may do the trick but a grace period of some sort may have been simpler.

from what I can gather and having read wattys very good posts on HD anything below a minimum 37inch tv is a waste of subscription to Sky HD as you wont see any benifit for your 15 euro. Even worse still paying 15 euro for the basic HD mix withough sky sports/movies.

iv a sony bravia 40w4000 tv

it should look brilliant on it

why is everyone so crazy about paying for hd with sky when you can get it free with a once off fee for 200 eur. it is illegal though but i have a a friend who installs free sky box with all channels including movies and sports except adventure channels. for 200 eur including box set. only catch is you must be an exsisting sky customer but have to cancel sky before installing the new box. the old sky satellite dish in position will get all the channels. most irish homes have this box but dont reveal them out as its illegal. the box is imported from uk with a preinstalled sky card. this has been used since sky was out in ireland. more info after i get mine next month.

    Also you are talking rubbish.

Sky encryption is not broken. Only the Free channels will work on 28.2e/Sky. Unless you are stealing some particular mainland Europe PayTV? Theft of service. Criminal and big fines with option of jail even for advising how to do it.

A UK pre-installed Sky card isn't illegal, but only adds the three Ch "Five" related channels.

    You have been conned.

To avoid getting sky multi room is it possible to run a cable from the main sky box in to the other TV and just get the basic TV channels like RTE 1/2 TV3 etc...

nope but if you want the same channels on ure other tv
you need somthing like a video sender connector

which connects to the tv and send the signal to the other tv

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,891 ✭✭✭Stephen P

Can I still change the channel as normal on the second TV?

Or get a cable and sky link. Allows you to change channels from the second TV. or you can run a cable from the Quad LND into another Sky box (get one cheap on ebay if you don't have a spare) and get all Free to view channels.

    Not including installation I presume?

Would jump at it - but not enough channels for €15 a month
Will bide my time - this offer (or better) will be available again with more HD channels - maybe even RTE HD :)

BTW is BBC HD on the Irish EPG yet????

If you can find an independent dealer taking part in the offer they will call out to you and authorise the box. Expect to pay the install charge

I've just got off the phone to Sky and ordered a 2nd SKY HD box for €125 installed, +€15 extra a month.I was told that I'm the first person in the Republic to avail of this offer.I immediately suggested that as a reward I be given the box free but no go:D I was surprised to deal with Cork and not Scotland.A new Irish call centre has been opened there recently.Christ it was bad enough trying to understand the Scottish accent. It'll be ten times worth trying to negotiate the sing -song Cork one.;):D Only joking....my grandfather was a proud Cork man.

can i just upgrade to sky hd (Sub) and use my card in a dragon cam and then in a 3rd party stb like technomate 6900??

And are the subs as follows:
If i want sports HD its the standard sports sub (Approx 52e) + 15e for HD?

If so thats a lot of dosh?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,340 ✭✭✭✭Tony

I'd say not as it needs to be in a sky HD box to be upgraded. A dragon cam may also not receive card updates
