Bloody Runners.

    Hi guys,

Strange question here - one of my toenails broke on a long run the other day and the tip of my runner is all covered in blood. How can I clean this? Can I chuck it in the washing machine? They are Asics Kayanu and brand new and white. Don't want to damage them but don't like the thought of running in dried blood......

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Gumby.

If at all possible dont put them in the washing machine with Arieal or Daz etc. The cleaning agents in these can be harmful to the mesh aswell as the glue used in these. So while they will look white they will disintegrate at a much faster rate. your best bet is a damp sponge and a special shoe cleaner-anything to harsh could end up ruining your new shoes.

Running in dried blood won't do you any harm...I wouldn't care less once my shoes were comfy and didn't hurt my feet.

Personally i agree-but i know the feeling after getting a nice white pair of shoes and then ruining them straight away. Ah well atleast they look used and abused!!
Every white pair of running shoes i have go grey anyway cos of work etc so it doesnt bother me.

Cheers for the replies guys. Yeah I don;t mind them looking old and used but shiney and white apart from a nice bloodstain is a bit weird. Don't want people to think I got pavement rage and stomped on somebody who couldn't decided whether to go left or right as I was running towards them.....

Good to know that running in dried blood wont hurt anyhow. I'll grin and bear it!

Are your shoes too small firstly? Running runners should be half a size (up to a full size I think) bigger than your standard shoes/runners cos your feet swell when running coupled with decent socks. If you start breaking toenails that could be a sign your new runners aren't the correct fit and you should change em otherwise horrible things like losing toenails start happening due to the banging on the front of the shoe as you run. (apologies if this is something you knew already, you say long run so I suppose you probably do know that)

Secondly, if you do wash the runner put it in a pillow case or something. I shed a little tear when my one of my £95 trainers caught and rubbed in the machine eating a portion of the sole :(

I was told by one of the specialist shops that washing your runners in a washing machine is the equivalent of taking 100 miles from their useful life.

Why not? It would act as a handy deterrent against future ditherers. Rather than being indecisive about left or right, they'll just get off the damn path altogether to avoid the psycho. I can't see how that can possibly be a bad thing.
    :D
