doubt I'll make it to tripod but yes, it was a great gig at ep. I didn't see his entire set but did make it in time for him to put on his mouse head!

Supposedly coming to play Trinity Rooms in Limerick very soon. I've only recently started getting into his stuff but he's got a very good ear for melody. Move for Me & I Remember are savage tracks

    Yeah... Hard as nails:p

I actually got a bit bored a couple of times at electric picnic and was almost tempted to leave the tent because it was too soft for my liking... Different strokes for different folks though I guess

Still had fun for 90% of the set, and will definitely go out of my way to see him play again

Haven't these new producers got any original stuff of their own or do they continually remix old skool classics and make a complete and utter poxy job of doing it as well, this is an utter abomination of what is a classic tune, shocking.

I wasn't actually "nitpicking" as you put it but some tracks are best left alone if your gonna make a complete and utter mockery of them:rolleyes:

wow a bad remix of a bad track.yeah your right lets focus on one or two of his tracks, lets ignore all his original work.hes clearly got no original ideas.
im pretty sure carl coxs people approached him to remix the track and would you turn down the chance to remix it?stop talking about stuff you dont understand man.if you wanna talk about production take a trip over to the production section.
for some one who talking about originality how can you listen to funky house which has had the same formula since it inception.
now bow out on this one man,ill make sure you get an applause when you leave the stage:D

Johnny Deadmau5 has produced a bigger quantity of quality tracks letely than almost any other artist I can think of. Remixing old tracks is standard issue for most DJ's at some stage. I listened to both those tracks - I don't like the original much at all. Deadmau5's remix is far from his best work but I think its ok - he has taken the elements of a track nearly 20 years old and updated it. But just because you don't like one of his remixes - you should not write him off all together. Have you properly listened to more of his music? Have a look at some of these links and also here is my deadmau5 mix

    https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/artist/detail/26182/deadmau5
    http://www.junodownload.com/artists/Deadmau5/releases/
    http://www.last.fm/music/Deadmau5

Deadmau5 is one of the freshest new artists to hit the scene in a while, and his reputation seems to be support this.

Felix he wears the big mouse hat when he comes on stage but takes it off after a while, and puts it back on when he's playing one of his big stonker tunes when everyone goes berserk. Check it out on youtube

I think it just goes to show your age at this stage jonny; listened to the original and thought 'what complete 'early 90s - just got an s2000 - lets cut and paste some samples tripe'. The remix is better off being referred to as a tune in itself, it takes the least offensive bit of the original song and builds a stonking minimal tune around it.

In any case when people are talking about Deadmau5, this is the tune referred to

    Going to be *SOME* gig.

Debating if im gonna head along or not. There is alot of quality stuff coming up over the next few weeks so dont know if I can afford it. This Friday alone there are 3 gigs id love to be at - Eulberg in Spy, Adam Freeland in McGruders and Japanes Postars in Tripod. The night of Deamau5 has Lektroluv on in Spy too.

Love this one: The Reward Is Cheese

That's one of my favourites too...

A while back I went to see Dr Lektroluv instead of Ricardo Villalobos - big mistake!

This sounds like something you'd knock together in 5 minutes in 'Techno eJay' or similar.

once again sunshine your talking rubbish and digging a hole for yourself, im sure someone like Carl Cox has much better things to be doing than to specifically request someone like Deadmou5 remix one of his old tracks, perhaps before you post you may want to actually take a step back and think about what you are saying, and even if they did he has all but ruined the original,at least the Shapeshifters made a bloody good job of remixing the classic Chime.

for some one who talking about originality how can you listen to funky house which has had the same formula since it inception.

again you REALLY need to think before you post such absolute nonsense of the highest order, honest to God ive heard it all now, funky house has the same formula since it's inception, jaysus you couldn't make it up FFS.

Nothing to do with old skool v nu skool mate, i merley said that certain tunes should be left alone if some artists are gonna make a mockery of them as Deadmou5 has here, im sure he's a talented atrist in his own right just not my cup of tea, also im truly dumstruck as to how on earth anyone with even a limited knowledge of dance music could possibly think that funky house has the same formula since it's inception, truly bizzare comments.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,672 ✭✭✭seannash

i wont even bother,i think people know what your like so ill leave it at that.
ive had this conversation with a prolific funky soulful house producer and he agrees that not alot has changed since he started the san francisco house movement(jay j)but what does he know right?
i relly dont care to be honest mate, everyone agreed with me on this one.i guess that means your in the minority on this.
im not gonna bother responding to anymore of this thread and idf suggest you go back to posting your"classic tracks":D

You've had this conversation with a profilic funky house producer, who was that then?

I met Joey Negro personally in El Divino, Ibiza 2 weeks ago after his set, gentleman he is too, he seems to think the scene is thriving, but then again who is Joey Negro to comment eh:rolleyes: now if funky house was the same as it was since it's inception i would assume the scene would be outdated and stale, but on the contrary it's still a massive scene worldwide and will continue to be while quality tunage is being released.

Grand so mate your doing the right thing by "leaving it at that" as you were (again) digging a hole for yourself, and as much as you would like to think im only into "classic tracks" it must grate you to realise your very much wrong.

    CIAO:P

    jay j.(said in my post)
i didnt say it still wasnt popular,i said its been the same since it inception.now granted there has been a few changes but its been the same sound repeated.nothing wrong with that sound, people like it.
im not digging any hole here man,you come across as a dick and im sure im not the only one who thinks it
like i said off to the classic section where you belong .:pac:
you come onto this thread and claim that deadmau5 doesnt have any originality because he remixed a **** song by carl cox.
you quote joey negro,i actually like joey negro but what has he done different in the past 4 years.his sunshine band(while good)are just a disco band like earth wind and fire or any popular band from the seventies.his funky house tracks are the same mix of live bass, keys
and house drums.he has a formula, people know what to expect and he does it well but hes not pushing anything new unlike deadmau5.
just cause youve been around so long doesnt make you an authority.
your too smug about your personal taste in music that anything that you dont like or understand is immediately disregarded.
it doesnt grate me to think know that there are alot of people who are alot older than me and like the music they grew up on.i actually think its kind of pathetic that a man your ages hasnt got more responsibilities and has time to waffle on about oldschool to people on here.i sincerely hope when i reach your age im not on chatrooms at 12:30.:pac:

ffs johnny can you ever let a thread go on without mentioning oldschool ?

and funky house (while a good genre) is one of the more standard musically formulaic genres.
Not that there's anything necessarily wrong with that.

Anyways to not give jonny his own wicked way in this thread which has nothing to do with a) carl cox b)funky house c) people arguing on the internet

    let's talk about Deadmau5.

I really like the guy. He's introduced a lot of people to an area of music they may have found quite inaccessible before now. I know that he was one of my favourite artists when i got seriously into dance music.

He does what he does a billion times better than anyone ever has before, and the guy clearly has talent comin out his eyeballs.

I'm definitely going to go to this in Tripod.

Went to see him at the recent V Festival in Toronto (where Noel Gallagher was "assaulted" i.e. pushed in the back) and Deadmau5 absouloutely rocked the Bacardi B-Live tent! Moby was headlining but DM stole the show in my opinion, bangin set from start finish, pity i couldnt get my hands on any biscuits, but the quality Mojitos and great tunes were enough to have an excellent night and deadmau5 has found an immediate place in my heart and a permanent place in my tunes collection! :)

Though he could drop the mouse suit thing.

you can rolleyes all you want but first of all it's against the rules round here. Also as someone who loves music I don't like to see music devalued to something that can be taken for free.

And yes I lose lots of important income because of illegal downloading.

If you are the type to only acquire music illegally, you seriously undermine your opinion on music as you don't care enough about it to spend a relatively small amount of money on it.
