Everyone hates machines!

Except, some people will grudgingly accept that there are a few machines which are quite handy. Which ones are they though? Personally I like the assisted chin/dips station, I can't do dips and chins for reps and this will hopefully give me a chance to learn and gradually reduce the added weight. The calf raise machine is also pretty good imo, although I don't think we have one. Anyone else have any opinions, or know of a use for a machine, not necessarily as the maker intended, which can have interesting results?

I certainly don't hate machines but if I was given the choice, the vast majority of the time I'd pick a free weight movement over the machine alternative.

I like an angled leg press, cable row and a few other.

Any of the hammer strength ones I've used are pretty good. I get awesome chest doms from their incline chest press.

Agree with most of the above - its really about the exercise you do or have done before you jump onto the machine ie chins followed by some cable rows or bench press followed by some machine flys etc

Personal fav is most of the calf machines or hamstring - really depends on the brand also as some have the angles of resistance completely mucked up.

Worst easily cable cross overs, smith machine and any of the arm machines.

    Anything with cables.

Anything Hammer Strength (but not the low row or pulldown). Notable mentions to the HS bench and leg press. Preacher Curl machine's awesome too.

    Leg Presses in general.

I'm loving smith bench incline presses at the moment. REALLY loving them.

Assisted dip and chin machines are junk IME. I've never been able to mimic what a natural one feels like on them, but for people unable to do a full chin or dip I'm sure they help.
