LOL ya there are two things about this comp that are making me scratch my head.

1. NGage - As Creggy said, I haven't heard the term NGage since just after the Battle of the Boyne!

2. No PS3, just 360 and PC.

Gamers will battle over the high speed network at the Xtreme Gaming Cente in Dublin's city centre on the 25th Oct in a bid to become Ireland's first Nokia Call of Duty Championship team.
Entry to the event is only €10 per person or €40 per team. If you enter as an individual you will be randomly assigned a team. If you want to be placed in the same team then enter your team name opposite. Only 4 people per team. All members must enter the same team name.
The event will be held on both PC and xbox 360, please specify your preferred platform when registering.
Prize Pool:
First - Call of Duty Championship trophy, €500 cash, selection of games, Call of Duty posters and a 3 month Screenclick.com voucher. Runner up - Selection of games, Call of Duty posters and a 3 month Screenclick.com voucher. Bonus Prize - Top 4 players (2 per platform) with the most kills over the full competition will win a Nokia N95 8 gig mobile phone. All entrants receive a 1 month voucher for Screenclick.com.

Terms and Conditions:

* Cut off date for online entry is the 24th Oct.
* All registrations are complete only when payment is received.
* All entrants must be age 16 or over.
* Early registration price is €10 per person. After the 18th Oct the registration price increases to €20 per person and €80 per team.
* Please read further Competition Rules

There is a major lack of rules for the competition:

Does that mean there there will be UAVs, airstrikes and helicopters?
How long are the rounds?
How many rounds are there?
How are the matches organised? (double elimination?, league? etc...)
What does "skill level - all players play at default level" mean?

The rules for pc have been modified. (again)

They're getting there, but seeing as early signups have to be done by the 18th I'm not convinced they'll have a proper rule set up by the time prepay closes

TBH it seems to be quite a farse. I was planning on bringing a WIT ( even though I hate SD ) team there originally, but seeing how poorly organised this is turning out to be I am not sure its worth it.

Yea, good intentions seem to be the order of the day here, but zero experience of organising a thing like this seem to be bashing it on the head.

I think they'd be as well off cancelling it and getting rules and the likes finalised and then go for it.

Though I'm a PS3 COD4 player I'll be heading along this.
(Total joke there isn't a PS3 section btw.)

Also I'm gutted there are only going to be basic classes. Red dot and silencer should be unlocked with the basic guns at the very least.

I like my classe perks to contain a mix of C4, claymores, stopping power, UAV jammer, deep pernetration and what many people do not use except me it feels.. extreme conditioning.

Anyway I'll be going with some mates though they will play on the PC.

What I'm most worried about is getting paired up with some noobs or kids in my clan when I get randomly paired up

It's all fine and well criticising, but not offering help/alternatives is silly and I say this all the time. So I should listen to myself more often

Yeh Kharn, I've been posting on the Game.ie forums for them to first update the rules (done) but then specify rules for each tournament (done and helped by Polarice)
Now I'm just trying to get clarification on the use of harddrives or not.

hmm im used to playing in promod now, and i never really used perks so it doesnt bother me. cant see how you can have a proper even competition with perks on.

seems badly thought out, but this is the type of competition that ireland needs, something with corporate sponsorship, if only they could smarten it up a bit it could be a decent competition.

If there are no perks thats grand...

For an M16 or M4, admittedly I prefer the red dot sight.

I guess I'll be using an AK or MP5 cause their standard iron sights I have no issues with whatsoever.

in fairness theres been ads in the paper for the last 3 weeks as well as ads on game sites all over the web, probably just bad luck you or your clan didnt happen across them more than anything else

oh yeah, i have no doubt it was my fault i missed out on it, it was the lack of coherent rules and promod that made me label it as a fail comp. after the fact, the thing does seem to be pretty well publicised.

interesting to see how the console comps of COD4 will go. ive never watched one, id be interested to see how it differs from PC.

I know a few people going and i'd like to go along and watch the tournie, but i'm not gonna pay in to spectate, and theres no way i'd join cos i never play COD (for shame!)

Seriously though. I don't see why you wouldn't be allowed into the place. Like if you're not on the list as to offically be competing then what's the harm in you spectating. Maybe they'll charge you if there in in it make a fast buck as they say but I wouldn't like to think so.

Anyway.

Just want to make sure.. you can 100% pay in on the day and it is 20euros correct???

I know where you're coming from but anyone considering competing will allready have their stuff unlocked and all that. Its not even about that though, the default classes are just designed bad.

Spot on. Out of the default classes I'll lean more towards the MP5 class, I think it is titled Specialist the thing is I be might mistaken but you get a smoke grenade with that. WTF am I going to do with a smoke grenade besides on say Team Deathmatch :rolleyes:

I could use it for Sabotage or S and D but I usually always go for stun grenades.

So everything is locked as if the game was from the start? we have to use the default classes, some of them have c4 and rpg though?
or can we make our own but only what is avaible

To the best of my knowledge for the xbox side of the event you'll be limited to basic kits because it's the fairest method.

For the PC side of the event ProMod will be used so you'll have access to all the weapons normally available in competitive leagues (clanbase, enemydown, etc...)

Yeh its looking like that, and yes they have perks that are unusable like C4 etc.


I have to say that using default classes might sound the fairest but if you ask anyone who will be playing, they will prefer to use what they've been using every day of the week. They wouldnt nerfing their custom classes though if any of them contained unusable perks.

they are not the classes when you first go online they are the ones from split screen and when you go into system link some people sound confused about this.

won the xbox side of this , was run as best they could run it on the day , taking off the m16 just turned it into an p90 feast which was a bit gay , but i enjoyed the day and the prizes where pretty class as well

could only pop in for a few minutes myself unfortunately, was planning on getting back for the final but i had to run to my other office to do some work on a server and was held up there til 6
