Am after searching through the TV forum and can't find another thread open on Strictly Come Dancing.

Do we have any fans here?

Do people agree or disagree with Phil Daniels & Flavia Cacace being voted out first week? I disagree, I think Don Warrington should have went :p (first week and am already disagreeing with judges decisions).

Its only 8 pairs (guys, then girls) alternating each week till they get them down to reasonable number to be shown in one bunch. But I agree, the results show is too long and its mad having it on the following day. I'm prone to forgetting about it entirely.

Ha! :D I actually felt sorry for the poor man dancing with her. How on earth was he supposed to concentrate on the dance? At times, I wondered exactly what he was going to grab hold of! And with his wife and daughters in the audience too lol
Its possible she was wearing such an outfit to distract the audience from her partners less than stellar moves.

But I thought that the right person went home this week. And I've a feeling that next week, the girls will be a big improvement on the guys.

Was anyone else shocked at how young Bette Midler looked? And how good she sounded??

omg, on the girls, did you see how poor Jessie Wallace & Gillian Taylforth were in the two group dances. And another girl also completely forgot her steps, her partner was spinning her around, like a limp doll.
I can't wait to see the girls dancing on their own for the first time.

The BBC clearly didn't have a costume in her size. Bless.

did anyone see strictly come dancing - it takes two, this evening. gary rhodes & andrew castle are terrified about sat night. You could see it in them, they are both really struggling with the dance.

I really felt sorry for them.

I can see both of them being in the bottom two... it's not working for either of them but I think that John Sergant might be down there too. The latin is very very hard for someone who doesn't have rythym

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,461 ✭✭✭Queen-Mise

John Sergant has a grace period for next three weeks, I would say as he is doing the Tango, its more ballroom than latin. And of course then on Sat week he would be doing another ballroom dance.
It would be the Sat after that when he has to do a Latin proper, that he will really come a cropper

Spot on queenie! Who do you fancy to go this week? I haven't seen any of the prep yet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,655 ✭✭✭1966

Jessie Wallace just has to go this week !!

    Whats with that hair-do ?????????

Hope they keep John Sergeant in - his expression is just hilarious when on the floor ;)

Gary Rhodes has become the latest contestant to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing.

The celebrity chef and dance partner Karen Hardy ended up in the bottom two alongside Mark Foster and Hayley Holt after failing to impress the judges and public with their jive on Saturday's show.

Judge Arlene Phillips said of their performance: "Enthusiasm - yes! You need to stop counting in your head, feel the rhythm and dance. Your footwork was kind of as flat as a pancake."

Len Goodman added: "You had terrible comments a couple of weeks ago and you've got all that pressure. I thought you did a very good job considering all the stress you've been under."

Foster was saved by Phillips, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli after the dance-off, leaving head judge Goodman to comment on the couples rather than vote.

He said: "Gary, I thought it was a very brave attempt. Well done to you."

Rhodes said after his elimination: "I would go through it all again - I want that ballroom dance! Maybe we'll have that privately."

    Austin Healey to win

I was wrong on John Seargeant, he is doing the samba sat week. That is going to be a sight to see.

who is going this week, oh the choices. Arlene passed the comment on Jessie Wallace that she didn't put a foot wrong with the group dance on Sat night, everything was perfect - she may have raised the bar.
So hard to go against Jodie Kidd, she must be one of the most accomplished/competitive people around, the height is a serious disadvantage though.
I wonder if it will be someone like christine or lisa, one of those girls to go on sat night. Which one of the girls dances with Brendan, she struggles a bit.

Lisa Snowdon (George Clooney's ex) dances with Brendan and she is terrible

Some of her stuff early in rehearsal looked ok but her performance last week was woeful. There's something about Jodie... she has the potential to be a Zoe Ball (height only maybe lol) but she needs major improvement. I don't like Jessie Wallace and think it's interesting that Darren always uses her surname when he talks about her.... wonder does that mean he's not too fussed on her??

What always amazes me is how much of an "expert" I become this time of year lol

What always amazes me is how much of an "expert" I become this time of year lol

I have caught myself saying things like - heel leads, rise & fall, commented on posture.

anyone would think, i was an expert. In my defense, i have stopped in embarrassment.

Cherie Lunghi was quite good. She'll probably win if she's consistant.

Have just seen Ian and Jodie on It Takes Two... they look fab together. If her improvement continues I can see her lasting a while. Funny looking girl (imo) for a "supermodel" but there is something very endearing about her

Have to say Flute I'm not mad on him... I loved M People way back when but he kinda puts me off rooting for Heather. I think it's his eyebrows!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 301 ✭✭marie_85

Yeah, there's something about Brian. I think he's a little too 'wholesome' or something. I had to laugh at his introduction where he said he wanted the public to see him as a nice, well-mannered young man. Most British celebrities would do anything *not* to get an image like that.

I'm rooting for Cherie and James. Mainly because I love James Jordan. And Austin and Erin as well, or Christine and Matt. I'm hoping Lisa Snowdon goes soon. I find her extremely irritating and Brendan Cole gets more arrogant every series.

its funny to see the changes in Brian in the short period of time in the last few weeks and the changes with his interviews on It takes two. He is awakening very quickly to how tough the original is, its a lot tougher than the american version.

it will be interesting to see how savvy he becomes in the coming weeks. I really like him, I think he is an incredible dancer - probably one of the best on the show.

Agree, the other male dancers have defo got competition. His salsa choreography was excellent. I'm hoping Brian and Heather stay around for a while. Shame we can't vote.

i agree with you flutegirl, its a real pity we can't vote.

i watched the dancing with the stars last night, it is so weak. dancers were doing the Viennese (spelling i know) waltz, with less than 10 or 15 seconds in a waltz hold.
dancing with the stars is ok for the other series during the year, as you don't have the original to compare it to, but it really shows itself up during the winter season.

come on brian & heather. my greatest fear is that they end up in a dance off with someone like Rachel or cherie. although i don't think rachel is as good as i originally thought she was

I've never thought much of the rumba before but Cherie and James were just sensational.... WOW!

Have to agree there. I think she'll win.

For the second week in a row I would prefer to see Jessie go but I think Heather is in a very dangerous place after the judge's vote. I think after tomorrow we'll be losing a few guys before we see more of the girls go... hope Jodie pulls it out of the bag tomorrow!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,461 ✭✭✭Queen-Mise

I really don't like cherie and i don't know why.

I really want to see Jodie & Heather go further, but Jesse could very easily get the viewers votes.

were the judges really harsh last night, or is that just me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,992 ✭✭✭flutegirl

Have to agree there. I think she'll win.

That was probably the best rumba by a woman celeb. Usually the older celebs are the first to go, which is a shame, but i'm now thinking if she gets past the half way point she could probably win it. Hoping Heather keeps on improving to make a challenge for the glitterball.

I think they have decided that it's not the first round anymore so it's time to get more realistic. I did think that Heather and Brian's dance was better than what the judges scored it though.

I do quite like Cherie.... I think it's really good that finally one of the "older" competitors is actually quite good for once. Kinda makes a change from the previous years.

I think Jessie's tears will bring on a sympathy vote for her but I'm hoping she starts wearing on others soon... used to like her when she was in Deadenders but have had no time for her on this. Don't quite know why but I think herself and Darren don't have the relationship that the others do, or even that Darren had with previous partners.

Am looking forward to tonight but I do prefer it when the results are on the same night... do they start to do that when the numbers dwindle?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,992 ✭✭✭flutegirl

I really like Darren, him and Jill Halfpenny were brilliant. Have no idea why they hold the results show over to Sunday, especially as you can find out from other message boards who has been voted off. It was better having the two shows on a Saturday. This format lasts up until the final, when they have no chioce but to announce the winner on the Saturday!

Anyone else hear songs that instantly remind you of some of your more memorable dances from Strictly? "I'm still standing" (Jill and Darren) is a perfect example.

    I also have flashbacks on
Crazy in love - Alicia and Matt
Hot hot hot - Mark and Karen
Age of acquarius - Zoe and Ian

Sometimes it's cos the dance was outstanding... other times it's more about the mood/how it meade you feel

'Maneater' always reminds of Darren and Emma Bunton's tango, and 'Smiley Faces' Vincent and Louisa's jive. Last year someone danced to 'My Way' and the male singer's performance was ten times better than the dance itself, it really stood out.

am so happy jessie wallace is gone. was dreading jodie or heather going, really want those two girls to get on well.

songs & strictly - what about songs you would love to see being danced to; i would love to see an absolutely incredible jive being danced to christina aguileira (the song with panties drop - WWII video). It has been used before i think, but i would love to see a really cheeky, sexy jive being danced to it.

Think it was probably the right result. Just as well it wasn't a split decision coz Len would've voted Heather off

Re songs: thought the Beatles' salsa version was good the other week, songs in different arrangements could be interesting, although can't think of any offhand!

I think Mark is on borrowed time, and it will be only the public that keep John in - as much fun as he is he's not the best of dancers.

IMO I think it's between Austen and Cherie. Would love to see either win. I even like their professionals - both Erin and James deserve to win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,894 ✭✭✭dreamer_ire

I think we coud see two or three of the guys go before we lose another girl... anyone think Heather didn't look over the moon at being saved yesterday? She looked annoyed that she was in the bottom two and I wasn't sure if she didn't think she should have been there or whether she wasn't bothered about staying or going.... just thought she didn't seem pleased to be staying.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,528 ✭✭✭OK-Cancel-Apply

Word on the street is that Cherie is actually a highly trained dancer. Still class though. Seeing her on SCD makes me feel like a cup of Kenco. :p

"No way could your instant coffee ever taste as good as our ground!"

    "You're drinking it..."

    *spits out coffee*

"WHHAAATT??? You sneaky bitch!! You had me believing I was drinking my own coffee, but you swapped it for YOURS. How embarrassing."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,894 ✭✭✭dreamer_ire

I think her Shakespearian days are standing to her... stage actors have to create so much with their movement in enhance mood etc and that doesn't happen so much on screen (if that makes sense!). For a 56 year old woman I think she has been incredible, often when u see older "celebs" on Strictly their dancing with the younger pros just looks wrong, remember poor old Esther Rantzan?

I'd love to see her go far and from what I've seen already she can do both ballroom and latin
