Dimension E520 graphics card?

I have a Dell dimension E520 desktop and I have recently upgraded the RAM to 3Gb. I now want to put in a graphics card (just have the intel accellerator at the moment) but I am confused with all the various types. I know I have a PCI-E x16 slot in my computer.

I don't use the computer for gaming, I just want a bog standard card that will hopefully improve my computer performance and improve the graphics somewhat.

I see some cards need to be connected to a separate power source. How is this done?

I don't want to spend a fortune either.

    Any info appreciated.
