Are these things accurate? Or are you supposed to use a differant formula for differant exercises e.g. bench, deadlift, squat etc.

Same for all, it is only an estimate

    http://www.exrx.net/Calculators/OneRepMax.html

Most people quote their lifts as 1RM, however many do not bother lifting their 1RM, so really I only use it to compare to others progress, or to determine what I should try if attempting a 1RM, or lower. e.g . I usually go for 8-12reps. Sometimes I might go for 3-5 to mix things up, so use the calculator to see what I should aim for.

In my experience they're fairly accurate.

There's only one way to find out though and IMO it's way more satisfying to say you actually lifted it.

    +1

Also, the lower the reps you use, the more accurate they'll be. Generally. A max set of 3-5 reps is probably a good range.

Cool cheers. Well apparently I should be able to lift 150kg on the bench so I guess I'll go for it next week

They're really handy and not too bad in terms of accuracy. Of course, the funny thing is that anyone here who can attest to their accuracy, has tested their accuracy, which means they went and did the 1RM anyway! :D

They're good for younger guys and people with very little experience, or people who don't want to tax themselves for the next session with a big cns depleting set of lifts. But if that's not a concern and you're lifting 150kgs then you don't need them!
