i am in the gym 2 months now.

main goals are to loose weight and tone up and increase fitness for football.

my fitness levels are definatley increased now and i can really notice it while playing ball or indeed in the gym doing my routine. (cardio)

the instructer in the gym is revising my routine and giving me a different set on thursday evening along with a 20 min weight routine for at home and he mentioned that it would be in my intrest to start taking some protein shakes.

    currently im doing

monday : 5 a side football (lots of running)

    tuesday : gym
    15 min bike warm up
    15 min cross trainer (interval)
    27 min threadmill (interval)

wednessday : football training (lots of running & some exercising)

thursday : gym (same as tuesday)

    friday : rest

satuarday : football match (lots of runninh)

    sunday : rest

i think im ok with diet but of course constantly improving it.

along with football training and matches im active 5 days a week.

so my main question is will this protein mix be ok for me : http://www.thesupplementfactory.com/p12/Whey_1lbs/product_info.html

also will it be ok as a PWO shake until i get home and have some proper food ie chicken fillet and veg etc etc?

also how much should i be taking on a daily basis with my routine or should i just take it after training, football etc etc

    BTW im 27, male.

    thanks.

What i don't understand is why he's suggesting protein shakes if you trying to lose weight o.0 I know people who diet using protein but i don't understand how it works.

    i was thinking that myself????

fair enough if i was on a decent weight routine but im not.
would you recommend that i dont really need them?

OP that whey is fine for you PWO.
Don't be afraid of protein guys, it's not a massive weight gain formula. Protein and it's building blocks amino acids have many functions in the body, one of which being the repair and rebuilding of muscle cells which aids recovery and boosts the immune system.
The trainer was right to recommend it.

To start of use you supplement in the morning, after training and before bed with a spoon of almond butter/peanut butter. And make sure your macronutrients are balanced throughout the day.

    Good luck!

Don't forget though that it's far better to have a moderate or high protein intake (for example if you are low-carbing it) - than to be taking protein shakes - they are a supplement not a replacement - so unless you are doing serious weight training use them as supplements only. For fat loss you are better off without them if you are getting enough protein in through diet (which you already are unless you have an unusual diet). IMO it's something that trainers just throw out there 'you should be taking shakes' cos they saw it in a magazine or feel it's the thing to be saying round the gym!

my typical daily diet at the moment is :

    10.30 - breakfast -
    either
    1. bowl of museli.
    2. special k.
    3. 2 scrambled eggs and 2 slices of brown wholemeal bread.

    1.30 - lunch -
    either
    1. chicken fillet grilled on george foreman, loads of mixed veg and 2 baby spuds.
    2. chicken fillet grilled on george foreman, scrambles eggs (if i didnt have it at breakie) and some brown bread toast.
    3. small tin of tuna with onion and tomato on some brown bread toast.

    5.00 -
chicken fillet grilled on george foreman, loads of mixed veg and 2 baby spuds.

    8.00 (after training or gym)
chicken fillet grilled on george foreman, loads of mixed veg and 2 baby spuds.

sometimes i will replace the spuds with pilou rice.

i would deffo not be using the shake as a replacement for the food, more just for straight away after my training until i get home get changed and have a proper meal as such.
