An observation, of sorts

In between mouthfuls of beer and kentucky friend chicken last Friday a thought hit me. It hit me so hard I have only plucked it from my memory this very morning.

An out of body experience some may say. A snapshot of the night, looking down on everone there it hit me. What a huge array of people from different backgrounds, jobs, interests and ages all present.

Lecturers, students, receptionists, geologists, neuro-scientists, bankers, archaelogists to name but a few. People ranging in age from 18 to uhm, the upper end of the scale. Not only Irish people, but proud South Africans and portuguese. Interesests ranging from soccer to body piercing. All brought together by a common love of beer and socialising.

So a thank you, a thank you to the organisers of the night for bringing people together who I may never have met without the presence of BGRH :o

    Also, to ligthen the mood;

Who is the most interesting character you've ever drank with?

For me, used to go drinking with a 70 year old man in France. He spent most of his life in America running a French resteraunt, married an American and in true French style, cheated on her and returned to France. The legend had his own pint glass in the pub that no one else was allowed drink out of. He would regail me with tales of yester year. He passed a lot of interesting facts onto me. Stuff I have long since forgotten because I was off my tree drunk.

Anywho ladies and gentlemen, the ball is in your court now...

Show me another clique that brings together rocket scientists, jugglers, nurses and people who record "Pat The Baker" jingles for a living.

Most interesting person I ever drank with, other than pa trout (we hardly knew ye), would be the collective BGRH crew.

My only regret at these events is not getting around to talk with everyone ... I'll just have to start earlier, and stay later :)

Right, I'm going to deal with these one by one.

Look, just cos you mention all these people doesn't change anything. It's still a clique.

    Why is that you say? Well . . . . um . . . . err. . . . . . cos someone on teh internet says so. FACT.

The thing is, and don't take this wrong, but you guys fail at cliques. I mean imagine having a clique where everyone can join? That's just not on.

    It's terrible, probably illegal even.

Don't you know there's lots of lovely people who aren't part of the clique? Of course the fact that they haven't managed to make it to a beers and had fun like everyone else does is neither here nor there. Maybe they're allergic to cans of carnation milk? Maybe they're afraid of meeting people off teh web? Maybe they're *whispers* veggies */whispers*. Well I know some veggies have been at beers and they've even enjoyed the fun. If we can welcome even these benighted souls, surely anyone is welcome.

Step away from the clique Brother Trout, step away from the clique.

Ya, you'll have to do that. It's your responsibility as an elder brother of the clique BGRH.

Oh and to buy the drink! :D

Don't worry, I was told many times on the night that I was nowhere near the standard of your epicness. :(

Lol, I just remembered that I had a conversation with monkeyfudge about having a bakeoff!!

Not any more, she plays her husband's flute now. He had an accident at work with the sheet metal press and lost three fingers on his right hand. He really misses his flute, so she does her best for him.

I think in the interest of fairness, you'll have to make a Banoffi Pie for me before I can pass judgement.

It's the only way to be sure.

A BGRH bake-off just wouldn't make sense unless I was there as taster in chief.
