Ladies, have any of you ever gone to any of these? My friend asked me to go to one in a couple of weeks time in the Button Club and I'm not sure if we'll be the only two women sitting amongst a gang of men in dodgy raincoats :o

Would there be a good amount of women in the audience generally?

I don't know about in Ireland but here in the U.S. it'd probably be packed with women. Even if you are the only two women there, it should be fun.

It;s not a strip club it's more like a variety show and there are a lot of women who go and everyone is encourage to dress up.

    Ah cool thanks ladies.

I went and googled after posting and found a gallery on their site and there are loads of pics of both sexes.

I knew it was sexy stripping and not seedy stripping IYSWIM but just wasn't sure if girlies went too.

Looking forward to it now ~ and think I have to go basque shopping ;)

    'Swing' ?

Eh it's not a 'swingers' meet up.

Sirens Of Burlesque - Saturday 27th September 2008

A Tassel Club presentation, this unique event will focus on the sensational art of strip-tease, featuring a myriad of stars from the world of burlesque. Ticket price: 35 (plus booking)

This Show is for over 18's Only.

    http://www.thetasselclub.com/pages/about.htm
The Tassel Club is an ever evolving group of performers who create unique vaudeville, Burlesque & cabaret shows.

The company was started by journalist and production manager Sara Colohan in 2003. Inspired by a bygone era, Sara produces a string of sell out shows every few months to showcase the club's unique acts including a Can Can troupe, contortionists and vintage burlesque striptease performers along with bands, singers and comedians.

"I became aware of Neo Burlesque partly because of my fashion background, (working as a stylist I'm constantly looking for new styles and trends) and partly because of my waning interest in club culture.
I was a club DJ for most of the 90's and I just got bored of club culture and techno (event though I never thought that could happen) So I was on the look out for an alternative form of entertainment.

I heard about Burlesque when I was in london in 03 and went to a small show called The Whoopee Club. I was captivated. Neo Burlesque has emerged from the worlds coolest clubs in a colourful, tongue in cheek haze of retro chic. I ventured into this 'other realm' as a voyeur and emerged hooked, enthralled and determined to bring this Burlesque party to Dublin, in all its feathered glory!! Within 3 weeks of seeing a show in london I held the first Tassel Club in Dublin "

Swing music....is it like 1940's speakeasy style grooves?

You'd need to dress up for that night I presume....where do you get your grear...

As for corests I would say try the erotic adult shop Ms fantaisa's or oder one oneline.

I happen to know that a lot of the performers have in the past bought their costumes from Retro in the George's Street Arcade.

Usually more women than men at the events.

Didn't realise this next one was so soon though!

    I love these nights.:)

I actually find it hard to believe you thought it was a dirty kind of night OP! It's one of the most fun nights you'll have out in town imo, the crowd very much get into the swing of things!

I think in text I may have come across a bit skew wiffy! I have seen (on TV) the Dita Von Teese type burlesque dancers and think they are amazing so just wanted to make sure that this was actually what we were looking to attend rather than the 'other type'!

I can't get on to the site at work so can't see what it's all about!

You see that is the tricky bit you need her waist measurement...

Well this is definitely the proper Burlesque type of show. Lots of the performers for the Tassle Club are very well known on an internation level and the standard of performance is always very good!

Also, as far as i am aware Kristin Kapelli will be singing that night and she has an astounding voice. It should be a great show.

Actually, just checked the site and she is down to sing so :D from me!

Edit, this site should me work safe for you!

I went to see the Crazy Horse show in the MGM (which is topless) and ended up been sat at a table with 3 girls, it was 4 to a table and there was no room at the table were my friends where.

It looked to be more girls there than guys and lots of couples

there seems to be a trend of "more girls than men" here, which you may like to take note of.

I did some camera work once on a Burlesque performer, and she and her girlfriend were doing a performance, and meeting all their friends from the George pub at the event.

Maybe that was just one event.

From my point of view, I am still as disappointed with the failure to remove tassels now, as I was when I first saw them as a young teen.... pah,

The tassles mus remain n place or they are breaking the law.

Taking this step up would remove the element of Burlesque which they have stayed loyal to and cost them their current loyal and well behaved clientele.

It would also change it from a Burlesque show to a strip club, which they are not. Different legal issues.

At this point security at a Tassle Club event is just for show, everyone fears Ephiphany ( organiser ) too much to act that maggot!

    And long may that continue.:)

Yea have to keep the Tassles on other wise its a topless show not Burlesque

em yes.. the removal of , and the law regarding tassels, are both irrelevant to my disappointment..

I remember feeling really ripped off as a young lad watching telly and seeing a strip down as far as... doh tassels..

As an adult, I think tassels always remind me of the disappointment when I was younger, and so some residual disappointment remains.

However, feel free to quote the law at me at any given opportunity, I might remember something important some day when I need it.

There is a burlesque forum in the arts drop down. The mod OldGoat is one of the mods in there, this thread would be right up his alley! He loves his burlesque so he does! :)
