Politically incorrect as it maybe there tends to be a grain of truth in all sterotypes. How would you caricature the following students?

    The Law student:
    The med' student:
    The commerce student:
    The Biology student:
    The Arts student:
    The Engineering Student:
    The Science Student:

What about the engineering student and the science student

    LOL :D
*the views in this post do not necessarily reflect those of square_igloo his family or RTE*
From what I've heard, these are the common stereotypes:

Arts students are wasters who spend their time getting stoned, drinking coffee and doing anything to avoid going to lectures.

Commerce students are bleach-blonde, orange-skinned, Ugg-wearing Daddy's girls named Ashley or Britney or Tiffany etc.
Law students are the male equivalent.

Science students are nerds who all wear glasses, have squeaky voices and shoot milk out of their noses while laughing (except Biochem who are more like Arts students.) Come in both male and female varieties.

Engineering students are the same except they're all male. And slightly sociopathic.

    Nursing students are sluts.

Medicine students are scary creatures who hardly ever sleep, just study constantly. In their spare time, they look for ways to stay awake for longer so they can do more study.

I personally don't know anyone who fits any of those stereotypes, but I'm sure they're out there! :pac:

    Apparently,Law students are sluts too.

Somehow it would make sense for arts students to be sluts. this thread is slowly turning into a list of where the sluts are at.

Arts students are god-like creatures who don't need to study becasue we already know the answers. All of them.

Everyone else is a freak. And a slut. ;)

A lot of people underestimate Arts students. People don't realise the amount of work that is involved in some of the courses. A social science requires a lot more intelligence and critical thought than a science or medical degree where you are taught how to learn stuff off and regurgetate it during an exam. For Arts, there is more emphasis on writing and researching and providing your own input. So as for the stereotype, i would say that all students bar Arts students lack an element of critical thought, an analytic mind and don't take and just accept (except this comment of course) what the hear without judgement.

Besides, the idiots in Arts invariably drop out after first year.

Arts....more intelligence and critical thought than medicine....At least Arts students have a sense of humour.

Ya, the Arts-Music students though.... they're even better... and easier more fun.....:p

"Who not to do? Law Students-They're Filthy"... those student union lads... they really brightened up Orientation no end...
    hahaha

Arts students are the ones hanging around drinking coffee usually wearing a scarf and dangly earrings with a bag so small no science student could get half a textbook into it if it had been shredded, science students usually have a harrassed look on their faces and often are pale and overweight, biology students are the sexy ones kept in another building miles away due to their appeal distracting the rest of the student population :p, law students are generally orange and wear uggs or skinny jeans with ballet pumps. To be fair though, at new society meetings the older members used to write down what course they thought people were in from their appearance, and we used to get a 8/10 hit rate. And towards the end of my degree I noticed different ZEPS degree streams wore the same type of shoes. Maybe stress had boiled my brain by then though :P

What a load of crap, you give out about stereotyping Arts students, yet you do the exact same by putting science (something you haven't done) into a silly stereotype also. Hilarious....

I'm all for stupid stereotypes that have been posted here in jest, but you being so serious is a massive case of the pot calling the kettle black.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,819 ✭✭✭dan_d

Actually in science and medicine there's a lot of reasoning and logically thinking through a problem...that's the whole point.not just learning off and regurgitating.I seriously doubt any college course involves any of that kind of thing, that's the whole point of college! In Arts degrees, yeah you have to put in your own input, but you can't deny that most arts courses have very few hours and the Arts building appears to be full of people drinking coffee all day long.As for the rest of the stereotypes, they're pretty spot on!And if you can't laugh at yourself every so often then there's no hope for ya!!

Well i wasn't being that serious to be honest. I was just giving my personal opinion. I wouldn't say something like that if i hadn't studied science. I did and it was like this. You would do some research but it would all fall back on other people's research which is of course, based on others people's research... Boring!! Seems like billions is wasted on reaching a Eureeka moment, which is then researched again to find another. Something perhaps can never be understood. I want to argue with others research, be critical yet praising aspects and adding my own input. You don't find that in a science degree. Yet, if you like the idea of working with a logical mind, by all means choose science.

pharmacy students: completely humourless. do not get jokes. get severely agitated when you ask them why they didn't do medicine. do not ask them this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,005 ✭✭✭✭Toto Wolfcastle

Law and Comm students wear Uggs/dubes with skinny jeans, Abercrombie hoodies, loads of tan and make-up, and enormous handbags. They also lurk behind the shelves in the library and move your books if you leave your seat for a minute to get something.

Of course my law student friend is a complete stoner who hates all of the above, but there are exceptions to every rule!

Social science students: lazier than arts! eight hour week in first year? seriously?

Arts students: the best people you will ever meet :P

There is some truth in stereotypes but being honest anyone who openly abides by a set of rules of interaction with people based on the course they are doing is an idiot.

I've met plenty of non bimbo commerce students and I've met stupid med students.

Try not to perpetuate the stereotypes by making threads like this :)

And I'm on the top floor so I had to stand up for ages in the lift. And now Im typing. I need a nap :P

I hadn't heard either of those but I laughed out loud. My friend will kill me lol.

ETA: My brother just told me one he heard about what people do with their degrees and the one for Arts was " this guy puts his on the dashboard of his car, so he can use disabled parking" lol.

Well, being a 2nd Year arts student myself, I've heard quite a lot of those jokes! :D
In fact, at one stage I made a complete list of them on my Bebo page, but they've since been removed.
