Its more organised then paintball, theres actual teams and tactics, not stag parties going for a free for all. Guns are exat replicas of the real things. People kit out in military uniforms or SWAT uniforms depending on the scenario etc etc

    This is getting weird.

I seem to be the only DCU Airsoft Society committee member on boards and everytime I close my eyes more interest pops up!

    :)

But yea, theres a new society! We've got some fantastic plans for the upcoming year. Already have discounted prices from certain retailers and venues negotiated, in talks for frequent trips and competitions with other third level airsoft societies.

All in all, it should be an amazing year! Please come and check us out on clubs and socs day, we're planning a nice display of AEGs and video clips! (Meeting with security soon enough to iron out the finer points of airsoft guns on campus).

As well as that we're planning a huge opening event, D-Day (demonstration day.) which will include displays of weapons from retailers, talks on safety and regulation, break down of society events, food and drink (better drink as night falls, of course) and naturally, a bit of craic! :)

Hope to see you all there!

We're discussing price plans and discounts with the new CQB place so yes we hope to sort out regular trips there.

Not a big fan of the whole skirmish side of things, not my cup of tea, but I'll definately be joining if there's any meets being held on campus for target practice or anything.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36 Jasirl

Well during planning most of our activities were to be skirmishing and CQB, however we've just learned of some loopholes that may allow us to do target practice in DCU itself, so it's a possibility. If we can get permission to use a DCU facility (such as a sport hall for example) it's my guess that we'll take full advantage of it.

whats the story with former students joining?

We've stated in the constitution that Associate members are fully eligible to join, whether they be DCU-Alumni or students from other Universities. :)

Is there a college league, or is it a national one (basically, will non-students be able to take part in ranked events?)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36 Jasirl

We plan on having both domestic and national competitions/leagues, and yeah it's our hope to have eligibility for everyone to compete, unless DCU states certain rules about associate members (hope not :P)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 183 ✭✭Evangelion

As far as I know, the rule in general is associate cant play in specific college leagues, but can in non college ones the club happens to be taking part in (thats how the American football works). So unless there are any dedicated college leagues ???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36 Jasirl

If we have our way and everything goes to plan there will be BOTH a college league and a national league (between other colleges/possibly clans). So if anyone misses out on the first one either because they're not eligble or they simply cant make it on the day, there'll be something else to take part in.

We're working on leagues, but they're not our number one priority at this minute.

That fingernail idea sounds pretty damn sore alright. Me no like.
Associate members are WELCOME in our Society, so everyone join! :P

Id love if that happened where people found their talent through the committee,

but em, you seem to know a bit about societies, what would the odds be of DCU having a rifle club, I know UCD and Trinity have them, but then again they're twice the size.

would their be any interest in our college?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 206 ✭✭eagleye7

tbh i really dont im only startin soon just happen to know some lads goin into 2nd year. I think your gettin ito different ground with rifle clubs your talkin about marksmanship. airsoft is about the tactics and intensity of actual firefight but in a safe controlled manner i think theres a different set of interests involved with shooting real firearms. as for myself i wouldnt be against havin a go at clay pigeon for the experience but its not just the airsoft guns that interest me its the game, the teamwork and to be perfectly honest the bloody good craic you have with the people, even if they are strangers.

also i just found out that NCI are also apparently thinkin of a society think its in early stages but ill add it to the list

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,787 ✭✭✭g5fd6ow0hseima

I was inclined to think they would have been somewhat intertwined, you know, airsoft heads would have had gun club members, perhaps thats where I went off.......

yeah, clay pidgeon would be cool, something id like to try a hand at too, but like, i get the feeling EVERYBODY would join the society, then it could fall apart as quick as it came together......

i hear ya and it is a distinct possibility but the guys know that and to be honest a high drop out has to be expected. as im sure happens with the martial arts too, just an example you catch my drift if it seems cool everyone will want a go. But lemme tell ya airsoft is adictive ive only properly skirmished once but ive spent manys an hour trawlin the internet lookin at videos deciding on purchases etc. its like playing call of duty or rainbow six x10 adrenaline factor.
i think that with a high application rate, a dedicated and enthusiastic commitee and a strong if small set of people already knowing of airsoft(take fyr fytr for example theres at least 10 or so peopl aside the committee) the society can draw in a lot of people who will become fully involved. esp is theres a chance to play inter college. it could become huge. tbh if everyone joins and noone shows up its their waste of 4 euro and a great time. from what i know it doesnt matter how many members a club has so long as it plays a active role in college life afaik the model un had very few members last year but they kept going as they were enthusiastic and didnt just shut themselves off from everyone.
