Well, i know a few lads in the model UN well, im regretting not to have been more into it but you can only really pick ONE club or soc in DCU sadly, as the meetin days are monday and wednesday, so it was rugby for me, but yeah, MUN went for the whole with little over a dozen and had some great craic, pity i missed some of the days they had!

TBH, I would join a hunting club but ehm wouldn't see myself joining airsoft...But nevertheless, good luck with it and please don't become over sponsored like certain other socs, that I think destroys socs...well the moral fibre of the soc...Anyways, good luck!

So now theres no connection in using replica guns loaded with a gas charge, expending rounds in a combat scenario and actual warfare proper. I feel its something of a mimick to be honest, do you not? Obviously its harmless fun compared to life and death, but I see a connection between tag rugby and rugby proper. If you liked tag, surely curiousity would get the better of ya and youd try the full version, like airsoft, id expect the average airsoft member to have an incling about joining a gun club.

Ok, I like this, valid point and well put.

Not Rugby, but I play American Football, Tag and Full Contact. I enjoy both, but I find them different sports, Tags more fun, Contact more satisfying.
However, I do know guys who play Flag and tried Contact and had no taste for it. I suppose you could look at Airsoft like that, enjoy shooting people with BB's, but doesn't mean you want to be in the position where you may have to shoot and kill some one (I realise the chances of that in the RDF is unlikely, but the possiblility is there).
As for a Rifle clubs, I'd probably join for the experience, but would probably get bored. I'd compare it to Archery and Fencing. i got bored of Archery as it was the same shooting at targets over and over, but Fencing pits you against an opponent, and is different every time

From doing archery...it really isnt, the craic is good, but the sport, your still just shooting at a target, nothing changes

I would be extremely interested in joining. What sort of costs will be involved?

    Cheers

Costs are very low. Its one of our main selling points over paintballing.

A day paintballing would could cost a hundred euro (ticket price, buses to arena and **** loads of paintballs, which are expensive).

Airsoft on the other hand, well we are trying to get enough subsidisation from DCU to be able to offer somewhere in the region of 20-25 euro per trip, which would involve buses, tickets and gun rentals. Now this is our aim and is not promised, but even so, it wont be expensive.

Tickets to the HRTA arena are 25 euro including gun rentals, but we are currently working out a discount. Then we gotta find out how much DCU will pay for our travel.

But trust us guys, it will be cheap for what youre getting!

Btw, anyone who has their own gun, its only 15 euro ticket price and thats before discount ;)

Reported posts noted and the user has been infracted after two warnings.

Now, can we please get back to the topic at hand...

On that note it's great to see a new society being set up with what seems to have the potential to become quite successful. Regarding your worries on transportation, the SPC will fund a percentage of transport as long as it takes place outside of Dublin. They will not fun transport within the city unfortunately. They will also subsidise entry to events so your trips could end up in the price range you hoped for quite easily. I'm sure there's someone from the SPC floating around here that can give you some official figures on what you may be entitled to.

Right, if there are any more reports about the content of this thread, it is getting locked in it's current state or possibly deleted altogether.

Discuss the ins and outs of the airsoft soc, not the morals of war/guns/fighting etc.

There are plenty of other forums on boards.ie for you to discuss those things, so go over there and make the mods on those ones work!

    this pleases me.

Apologies to the moderators. However i request you dont lock this societies thread just because one forum member was flaming =/

Yeah im hoping we can get proper figures from the SPC soon enough. The HRTA airsoft arena is in Dublin but pretty far out from the city. Its past Swords. Any idea how far it must be for them to fund the buses?

The thread won't be locked as long as it stays on topic. As I said before, it's great to see a new society being setup and the more feedback you get from potential members the better you'll be this year.

Really how you guys all keep an eye out for us on clubs and socs day (although you wont need to look very far....), it promises to be quiet the show! With competitions, prizes, discounts, sweets, equipment and weaponry on show.

    And an m60.

    Hey All

Was just in for my first day at DCU today. Had heard about the society on the Airsoft forum. I noticed its not mentioned in the booklets we were given out though. I'm guessing it wasnt certain whenever they were being printed.

Never played Airsoft but with I'm definitely going to take it up now that I know therre would be trips organised etc in the society.

I look forward to seeing you on Clubs and Socs day!

Heya guys. Best of luck setting up the society. I myself am a part of NCI, and there was talk of an airsoft team but I think they got cold feet.

I'm dissapointed as I'm a big airsoft player and was hoping for some inter college games :)

But, if you guys get yourselves a team going, I'm sure the team I play for would be more then happy to play you guys in a few friendlies, just an idea :)

HRTA is a good site, and when you play with/against guys who know their way around airsoft, you will really see just how sweet Airsoft is compared to paintball :)

Best of luck with the venture boys, see you in the field :)

(P.S. If plastic axe is anything to go by, im sure my colelge will have nothing to worry about if we do play you :P )

    Joke in good jest :D

I'm very much considering an AK.
But as was pointed out to me, it doesnt look right with Camo, so I thin I'll dress like a gang member and be easy to see...so I'll be the most often shot :D...:(
