Muscle memory

For various reasons I haven't been lifting right for two or three months, or eating right for the last month/six weeks. I thought I was holding up ok but I measured myself at the weekend and appear to have lost about an inch from my upper arms and calves, which sucks cause they were small to begin with. There's also about a half inch off my thighs, my hamstrings definitely look smaller than before. Anyways assuming I eat and train right from now on can anyone give me an idea of how quickly I can make back size and strength gains? Is there a general time frame for these things or does it depend on the person in question? Thanks in advance.

How long is a piece of string tbh....

You'll certainly gain it back faster than if you didn't have it in the first place tho!!

Is that so? Thats reassuring because i am constantly getting sick or hurting myself and laying off the gym for afew weeks to recover.

I heard it too, and Hanley certain knows his stuff. I would see it sort of similar to fat people being able to put fat on again easily, they have more fat cells etc, dunno how the muscle works but you often hear it. Many before/after ads for fitness equipment are said/rumoured to be people who specifically got small and then easily big again.

brian- did you measure in similar ways, i.e. if you were laid up I would want a few workouts and measure after you have a similar "pump" after a good workout. You say size AND strength, did you lose much strength, I sometimes am stronger after a week+ break.

Yeah I measured friday evening, after being in the gym that morning, and after a "carb up" (ok kids bday party), so I think the pump effect was similar. I'm not sure how much strength I've lost tbh, I find it hard to believe I haven't lost strength in my back for instance since I haven't deadlifted in about three months. On the other hand my db rows are the same as before, and my front squat is pretty good (72.5x3x3, 70x3x3 monday afternoon) but I never did them for max strength before so its not comparing like with like. This was at least a months break of complete non lifting btw, so I definitely am not stronger!
