I just saw a trailer for fifa 09 and it looks great. Im a pro evo fan but am torn which to get this time round. I currently have pro evo 6 and have played pro evo 08 a lot too. Both quality games. Online is very laggy with pro evo 6 which annoys me.
Whats fifa like online?? Which should title should I buy next??
    Pros and cons please.

Normally, I'd be Pro Evo. I've been choosing it since ISS on the N64. However, since the next gen consoles launched, and have since become just 'gen' consoles, PES has done nothing. PES6 was half the game it was on the PS2. PES2008 was dull. The best football game I've played since the 360 was lauched was UEFA 2008.

Both games will be out without a week or two of each other, and I will get one, and it's looking like FIFA 09 all the way, as I think I saw that PES is still using the same engine as previous games. At least FIFA is trying, and while people may dislike EA, they've done a great job with FIFA over the past 2 or 3 years, improving the game and tighening it up. Plus they can do online. Konami haven't gotten the foggiest how to make an online footie game.

The thread is to see where things have gone since pes 06 which I have. I'm a fan since N64 version like one of the others who replied but I'm just wondering where to go next. Theres been a good few changes since then and this thread was just to get a feel for where people have been siding and where the they may go this time round. But I have to say good imput just saying its a stupid thread. Your obviously a clever chappie.

Because PES2008 was so much different that PES6!? FIFA 07 was so much different that FIFA 08? Based on trends over the last few years, previews etc, it looks like FIFA has the best chance in a longer time of not only being the best selling (which it always is), but actually being the best game.

I am in the same opinion as you. Normally I wouldnt give Fifa a chance but this year I will. I have been dissappointed with PES6 and PES2008 mainly with online play it has to be said. I tried Euro 2008 and it was enjoyable not quite as fast paced as PES is but good none the less.
Im undecided until I play some demos and read reviews of the final versions.

If you hate these threads dont waste your time reading them and more to the point dont waste your precious time posting back on them if you dislike them so much.

    That said...
If you have a constructive answer that incorporates past games experience and previews out (which there are btw, I just viewed a video preview of Fifa 09 for example and it looks fantastic) then by all means give your thoughts if not just dont bother. I'm sure you could find better use for your time.

I am the same as you both ISS N64 as far as ProEvo2008, then I got fifa 08 and at the start didnt like it much but got used to it and now its all I play throw in Pro Evo the odd time but very odd. I will be buying FIFA on release day this year if I can spare the funds and its up to Pro Evo to make me want need to buy it.

an arcadey Pro evo similar to the ISS 64 would be a nice change in direction. plus i think i heard that Seabass admitted their real next-gen pro evo wont be rady until next year.

There's no way PES is going to improve enough after the shambles that was PES 2008 in my view. I was an ultra-biased PES fan before 2008 came out, despite its multitude of flaws i stuck with it. Then I tried Euro 2008 and found that it shat all over PES 2008 in every way and it's a near certainty that the new FIFA will do the same (going on the preview code of PES 2009 and trustworthy previews so far)

    FIFA has:
    1, better graphics
2, better gameplay (slower & more realistic than PES)
3, online play is flawless (on PES it's shocking)
    4, way more to do (be a pro, 10 v 10 online)
5, lots more stadiums and teams (not as important, but still very nice)

Konami are taking the piss out of their loyal customers and it's quite disgraceful really!

Listen PRo Evo 08 is the exact same as 07 and 06

    The same goes with FIFA

Who cares just write over 08 with 09 on the front of the box and its the same thing anyways

Is that just EA for Fifa or are you just coming out with a very rash statement about EA in general and wouldnt buy anything with EA on it?? Seems a bit crazy if that is the case. Theres plenty of good EA games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,627 ✭✭✭Fol20

oddly enough EA are thinking more outside the box that all of the other companies, maybe not in fifa but they did bring out skate and rockband last year an have games such as dead space and mirrors edge this year.Personally im going to wait to buy my next upgrade of a soccer game...Im a pro evo fanboy and i still will be after the new ones come out..im still playing pro evo 6 because i too was disappointed with pro evo 08 and am not willing to give away my money to developers that arent trying..I would move over to fifa as they are making more changes but i just cant stand fifas gameplay fullstop.I still lie in hope that pro evo will make changes in the new one and i pray that they will include an indoor pitch in the new one..I know its wishful thinking but id love to see an indoor pitch as fifa 97 on the sega with the indoor pitches was some of the best and most rememberable soccer matches i had with my friends.

I doubt you will see indoor pitches. EA have them already. It's called FIFA Street.

Shame really, as 5 a side matches from, I believe, FIFA 98 on the PSOne were excellent.

I was a Pro Evo Fanboy and my advice to anyone who still is one is to get your hands on Fifa 08 not just a rental copy but a pre owned I am sure they can be got cheap, get shot of all your pro evo games for a week or two and play only fifa , online, off line, challange mode, be a pro. The make an informed decision, when I got Fifa first I was pissed as i reckoned I had just thrown away 110 euro on two rubbish footie games. FIFA takes time but is worth it.
Loking at the gameplay on youtube for both sims ProEvo looks like 5 (which may not be a bad thing) and Fifa is playing with the same speed as Fifa 07 (which may be a bad thing).

It would be a brilliant online concept. Indoor soccer online with the Fifa 08/09 game engine.

    Fifa Street sucked.

I liked PES 6 at first but then I found fault after fault (online, where 90% of my game presence is) until the point I gave up on it and bought Fifa 08 (again, I had the crap PC version.)
I never turned back. Excellent online game engine.

Will def be buying Fifa 09.

PES Has an agreement with UEFA for the Champions Leauge for the next 4 years starting this year. So there will be a Champions Leuage mode. Thats impressive.

Firstly, capitals and punctuation are your friends. Secondly, learn to use PS properly. You don't open a reply with it.

So FIFA Street is outdoor? Re-feckin'-ally? Must have missed that. My point was, clearly, that since EA already have a full product out of 5-a-side football, why would they include said feature for free? They wouldn't because they're trying to get as much money as they can. I want a 5 a side feature. As I said in my post, it's a shame it's not included.

Take your own advice regarding your eyes.

Just played demo there myself and I'm extremely impressed with it. My initial thoughts were it looks great. Not just the UI but the game itself.
All the little touches make me smile ...
The EA logo before each replay, the linesman pointing the flag, the load ups before each match, the naming out of players before each match etc etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭Bigjez

I have pes on the xbox anf fifa on the ps3. Now the big difference i find is the passing element. In pes i can pass the ball around 30+ passes trying to draw out defenders to gain space. In fifa this is a problem they dont want to leave there positions. I was never one for tricks so passing was the ball around and taking my time was how i played. With fifa the ball just doesnt have a proper feeling of proper ball mechanics roll lenght bounce etc..All in all i will probably get both again but most of my time will be spent on PES

This year, for the first time in a long while, its gonna be try before you buy for me. I'll have to give both demos a whirl first.

After PES08 - I'm not so sure I'll be rushing out to get PES09 on release day unless the demo blows me away (and how likely is that gonna be?!). And I bought Fifa 08 last year too. And while it ws a massive improvement over older versions (and probably better than PES08), there's just something about it that doesn't sit right with me. It's not fanboy snobbery - it just doesn't feel right when I'm playing.
