Man A's scenario

Man A's simultaneous muscle building and fat reduction Laboratory scenario

I'll try to make this idea clear..

Man A has been reading that muscle cannot be gained while losing fat, but man A is a scientist so decides to investigate for himself

Pretend Man A does his workouts in a laboratory and knows what fuel source he is using and how much work he is doing. His trial will be ongoing.

(He has endless amounts of time too and has good endurance.)

He is aware that there would be better ways to build muscle but wants to try what will happen if he does this

He knows that if he exercises at quite low percentage of his VO2Max say maybe he burns 50% fat 50% carbohydrate for 3-4 hours. He calculates the amount of carbohydrates he needs to eat to replace those which he uses up.

Right so the calories he is missing is the fat he has metabolised, hence he would lose weight.

His calorie deficit comes solely from fat metabolism.

But what he does is feed himself a calculated amount of carbohydrate and protein to give himself a surplus of calories and does appropriate weight training.

He is still burning off his fat from the 3-4 hours at low % VO2max but hopes that the extra calories he is now eating will be used in muscle growth

Will Man A gain muscle and lose fat at the same time?

Or will man A be disappointed with his trial?

( Man A doesn't want to know the best way to build muscle he is interested in the results of this scenario? )

Man H (that is, me) concludes that since his brain stopped functioning half way thru trying to figure out the post it is entirely possible that the earth is flat and also the centre of the universe....

Is man a suggesting he will drop all fat from his diet?

Man A is attempting to model an extremely complex system too simplistically. There are too many interactions at work between the different variables to deduce the results in such a linear way.
For example, you make no mention of rest or state of mind.
Both of these can effect your hormones which in turn affect how your body stores/burns fat.
If you want to be 'scientific' about it you're better off adopting a 'black box' approach.
Tinker with the inputs, keep them constant for a period of time and observe the results.
    Then amend your routine accordingly.
Just lift the fcuking weight and eat right
    ie what he said

Thank's Mikel for the comment, I suspected it was a bit of a simplistic view all right.

I was hoping maybe some people might be able to explain why this would/wouldn't work.

Though I suspect a public message board is not the right place for a discussion on the actual scenario. Maybe my post was not clear enough either way I am no closer to a result.

I'm getting flashbacks of youtube comments

There are so many reasons why it wouldn't work, its hard to pick just one. You have stated "man A" will be training about four hours (a day? This isn't clear) which would be counter productive for most people. You've mentioned weight lifting but given no indication of the type of training. You seem to be suggesting that you will cut all fat from your diet, which is STOPID. And you seem to think that you can lose weight on a calorie surplus. "Man A" thinks he's a man of science, but he doesn't have the first clue.

    Hope that helps.

Are you suggesting that the views and opinions expressed here are in some way invalid since we're "faceless"??

Or is it just because people aren't agreeing with you??
