    well it's something pro-oriented anyway - it doesn't have a built-in flash.

I can hardly contain my excitement! even though it will probably be january before I get one:D

I was a bit excited about the new 5D... and was getting ready to purchase the 1Ds Mk III... But Red made comment towards an introduction to the SLR world... And that's what I'm holding out for...

They make video cameras... fantasticly amazing ones. Shooting at a higher res than the 5D, and with the same size sensor. Amazing quality... good dynamic range, yadda yadda yadda... It's really the closest I've seen video work resembling film.

Oh, and chances are, it'll take Canon and Nikon lenses.

the pro one will take canon lenses, i know people using them

well you need an adapter but does work

they are still in the very very early stages, they shoot stuff at 4K res, which when you doing film scans you would use for 35mm movie stuff

That is pretty interesting. They certainly have the capability to shake up the market. I wonder if this is what Nikon was responding to with the D90. Whats the res on that sensor though ? Even the top HDMI res is pretty low compared to what people have come to expect from their DSLRs. OTOH if they can do the whole modular thing they have going on with the video cameras then that'll be a big USP. And if they do THIS :
"RED will be offering for-pay (and for some cameras, free) upgrades to new sensor designs. This means that you can swap out an old sensor without buying a whole new camera. Yet another blow to the old-guard."

then that'll SURELY put the cat amongst the pigeons :-)

    no the video camera

Wouldn't do the aul street photography any good though :D:p:)

Leica are looking to do that with their next offering. Interchangeable sensor, processor and so on.

    Ah ok. :(

I know a few people in the states that tested the Red One vidjo system... Was hoping for some gossip there :(

The handiest thing is, it has the potential to be stripped down to next to nothing, or have every feature in the world, depending on how you're feeling that day. The video system might be 10 lbs, but I doubt the DSLR would be.

Lol, I wonder am I the first person to derail a 5D Mk II thread.

Yes I heard that one too with an MX sensor (medium format). Interesting days/months ahead of us.

If somebody gets FF Nikon, please, let me know. I would like to see pictures from that. And I would like to try it how does it feel in hands.
And of course, a little price comparing would be interesting.

MF lens mount, quality & Iso pending, that could convince me to do something very very bad.

I seen some shots from the D700 and very impressive at high ISO, a bit aggressive in noise reduction and sharpening but still very good.

If I can throw my Hassy/Mammy lenses onto it, I'll sure think about it...

I'll keep an open mind :)

I'm excited to see what the 5dII brings to the table. I think it'll be quite special.

    there you go - here's one from a D3. You'd get the same image from a D700.

    1/320th f4 @ ISO 800

Next sunday (14th) is the Chinese Mid-autumn day (full moon), I reckon that's when the 5D replacement will be introduced.

    I can't wait. 177877541_iG6MM-M.jpg

Aha, the biggest problem with that, though, is that Canon is a Japanese company ;)

After some reading up, I'm not too sure if it'll be a medium format RF, probably a 35mm, cheaper competitor to the Leica's M8. Chances are they'll stick to the M mount too, which is dead handy.

Bloody hell - That'd take a serious amount of balls.

    Come on Canon! :D

    Damn.

If the 9D is for real I actually would be tempted by it.

damn damn damn damn damn damn damn.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Actually, looking back at it there, I think they'll throw a few more MP into them, just to showboat in the megapixel race. They're known for having the most MP, so they're not going to want to lose out on that.

16.7, while very impressive and worthwhile won't be enough for them to show up competitors.

I did a wedding with a Nikon D3 and I have to say it completely kicks the 5D into submission, very nice and extremelly easy to get some cracking shots with little ease.

Please please, whatever the 5D MkII is going to be, just be friggin awesome or else!!!!!!!

Amen to that ... I could be an expensive failure for Canon ... and for the rest of us too ... as we write off the cost of our kit when we churn to Nikon ...

It takes ages to edit stuff from Red cameras though, every frame is like a RAW and needs to be "processed" before being used.
I know a guy who shoots with them.

SLR would be very interesting though pricey I'd say.

Keen to look at the new 5D, although my bank manager won't want me too :D

Sorry only read the first page before replying, sorry to go back off topic again :P

    really

mates of mine in the states, use red all the time, its a different workflow. the software allows processing of multiple frames and then you create proxies as QT which allow edits and then final output is assembled from the raw files

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 494 ✭✭paudie

Just what I've heard, it makes sense that you could batch edit pretty easily though, especailly if it's all the same lighting etc.

25 Mpx, FF, two parralell Digix IV chips, 7 fps, buffer for 25 RAW images... I am only dreaming :-)

well ... if its a dream then you need to add "... at a price tag of less than Eur 2,000..." :D

... but I suspect it will be more of the dream turning to nightmare of "... with a price tag of more than Eur 4,000) ..."

Ok ... so I got word from an industry source that we "won't be disappointed" next week ...

Apparently there are press releases due next Weds (in time for Photokina the following week) ... in addition I heard from a local retailer that she is to attend an event in the UK next Thursday during which as many as 50 new Canon products will be discussed ... bearing in mind this probably covers the entire consumer imaging and printing portfolio ... so it is not 50 new SLR products ...

So lets keep our fingers crossed ... and keep and eye on Canon press releases on Wednesday ...

    Wow.... I love the price

    • US: $ 2,699
    • EU: € 2,499
    • UK: £ 2,299

    From my calculations $2,699 = €1,906

I think I'd spend the extra €593 on a flight to the states buy the camera, take a few shots and head home for the same price...

    Edit: prices taken from dpreview

Is it just me... I can't see anything special about the photo's, they actually look pretty crap. The one with the post box seems to have 1/2dust spots on it too
