What is it with everyone getting tat's these days?

There are more girls running around with these "tramp stamp's".

They promote this on TV and in the media, and next thing Paddy and Majella are running down to get some ink. Madness.

Ehhh why tar everyone with the same brush, some people get tattoo's for different reason other than them just being cool or whatever you said. i know i did

When tastefully done tattoos can be quite nice. Something like "Pighead Rocks" etched across the tummy area or lower back can look good and even sexy if applied properly.

Tattooing per se is fine but there are some tats that just don't look good imo.

For example I hate the trend of "arse antlers".

I hadn't noticed tbh... However my friends 18 y/o neice had to book a week in advance and leave a deposit of E50 to get a tattoo in Naas last week, I have 2 small ones that I have about 7 years and when I had them done it was just a case of walking in off the street with cash in hand...

Could have been the day you got it done too. I have 5 tats done over the last 8 years, some I just walked into the studio and got it done, others I had to wait.

Alot of it has to do with the fact that once you learn the difference between a good studio and scratcher you tend to stop going to the kind of place that is so quiet they can just take anyone who walks in off the street.

Pighead's feeling fantastic BOFH. Thursday is in full flow and Friday is almost upon us. Work is quiet and Pighead is engaging ina fascinating debate regarding the merits of tattoos. Drinking more is an option but a wrong option. It's 2008. Drinking less is the new drinking more.

Oh god.. so horrible! Well maybe on the right person, as in not on people who have a muffin top already and it's hanging out on a large bit of flab with some "ancient chinese writing" (which probably means arsehole or something like that) or a big durty celtic black thing

...these are just my memories from when tattoos became a cool thing during 5th year in school.

I have some friends who have some tasteful ones but they're not for me anyway

    i love tattoos.

i have loved the art of tattoing since i was 12.

i have many tattoos, im working on 2 sleeves at the mo.

im no scum bag, i dont get to fit in tatts like eire 32 tiocfaidh ar la etc.

my tatts are all based around one them on one arm & something differnt on the other.

i have spend hours looking up designs on the net.

i do agress that the typical little scum with the ireland flag on his arm makes tattooing look cheap.

(I HAVE ATTACHED A PIC ONE OF MY TATS)

Surely that forum will show how popular they are nowadays. Ive to go into work for a few hours, cant wait to see this thread when i come back about half 4. Should be very interesting to see the opinion of people without tattoos.

Am too scared to get one but if i did it wont be for public viewing, it is something personal. Some people
have their bodies covered with it... I wonder how they manage interviews... My friend has 4 tattoo's, piercings
(ears, tongue, navel and nipple). I had a tongue piercing(cost me €400 in Dentist bills)

I have no issues with tattoos as long as it's tastefully done.

    I hate them

Cannot stand them, its not something I go around saying in public as many people do have them these days.

Don't think I have ever seen one I liked.

Would find it very hard to be with a girl who had one, no matter how good looking she was. They make my skin crawl.

Yes I am shallow and a knob for "judging" people, how dare I etc etc. Its more a phobia than anything. I just cant help being repulsed by them.

Not calling you a knob but thats very strange. How would her having a tattoo affect how you feel about her? My girlfriend had 1 before i met her(a horrible tramp stamp, cant stand it myself) but we went in one day and both got one together. I have 3 at the moment and planning on a lot more, I also have 5 piercings.

Back in the day, I used to love Bronski Beat, padded shoulders and pink stilettos. Your taste changes. Thankfully. Tattoos are a reminder of your poor taste, as well as being, well...common.

I just would not find a girl with one attractive, or if I thought a girl was hot but then saw she had a tattoo, it would turn me off her.

I know, I think there's actually something worng with me though as I don't even like getting pen on my hands or shaking hands with someone who has pen on theirs.

I think its more a reflection of my inner workings than anything else.

But what if you met a girl, thought she was really hot, had a great night with her and all that. Start seeing each other and you find out she has a tattoo in a not so obvious place.

Would she suddenly become un-attractive to you?

I see them as common and silly looking. They will also look even sillier when you're older.

"To express yourself". Bollocks to that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,893 ✭✭✭Davidius

Tatoos are disgusting, piercings are even more disgusting. I can't imagine why anybody would want either of them.

Just thinking about them makes me feel sick. :|

This is my point. Your "individuality" will be HILARIOUS in 20 years.

I remember a guy I used to go out with years ago, big strong "hard" man, he got a unicorn on his upper arm. It was cool then. Now I lol at the thought of him being stuck with it.

so if Angelina Jolie was standing in a bath robe whipped it open then on her lets say leg she had a tiny tattoo of a heart or something like that.

You would put your one eyed monster back in your pants a walk off

Even if your mind wanted to you body wouldn’t let you! :)

OP, whats the problem? Nobody is making you get one, so why should it bother you if other people like them, I have a tattoo and I like it... end of story!

There are many reasons for getting tattoos. Some people want a permanent reminder of something in their life, others of us just enjoy getting tattooed. We get tattooed to get tattooed. It's not always about making an expression, there might not be any statement in there.

We are kinda like emo's, except our scars look better.

Prime example of a lovely woman ruined. I know she's attractive but I couldn't stand to touch skin with ink on it

There is not ink on it, there is ink under it. The skin does not feel any different (Unless it was done by a scratcher or not healed properly, then it's bumpy and scarred)

It's just art that happens to be on your body... if it looks good and you're confident that you won't regret it, then why not?

I roll my eyes like this  when people say "yeah well when you're 90 you're gonna really regret getting that cos it'll be all wrinkley!" as if there are 90 year olds walking around with their tops off all day. And even on the beach, you think they're all thinking "oh god this is so humiliating, people are looking right at my tattoo!!!" ?

    Hardly.

It's art on your body... you either like it or you don't.

ps. currently deliberating on what my first tattoo shall be.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,183 ✭✭✭✭Will

Each to their own as someone has already noted.
I like the aesthetics of tattoos, I am biased though.

They're very personal things, tattooing is becoming more of an art form nowadays. The quality out there is astounding and is being reflected in modern society, there have been many art shows where tattoo artists and their work is the main feature. Long gone are the days of back alley scratchers.

If someone doesn't like them, fine, same goes for someone who does. No skin off my back.

Not a big fan of tattoos on girls but I was going out with a Scandanavian girl last year who had a large one that circled her lower leg and it was pretty damn hot to be honest. Now she wasn't one for wearing skirts so it was only seen really when she was undressed.

I'va tattoo on my arm i got when i was 19.The ink tends to expand over the years and eventually it obliterates all detail and you're left with an amorphous blue-looking blob.People when they're young forget that they'll age someday and thier skin will change along with thier "artistic" preferences.
Lots of people with tatoos are constantly getting then updated or covered over, its a waste of time imo.
I wouldnt reccomend anybody get a tattoo, they look great at 19 not at 40.

And as for getting tatoos in foreign languages..

Tattoo's are great, if done properly and by someone who knows that they are doing. The majority of them however seem to be done by ham fisted cretins for other cretins.

I'm thinking of learning japanese so that i can tell the next tool that the Kanji on their shoulder means "retarded foreigner" and not strength, power or whatever.

fuck it, i'll just tell them that anyway.

There's a HUGE difference between flash on a tattoo studio's wall and a custom piece done by a master of the art...

like comparing a picasso with a drawing from a kid with crap co-ordination
