Ok I'm 15 5'9 ish and weigh only 8 stone. I'm pretty fit and stronger than alot of my friends (I can do 100 push ups) but I think I'm pretty skinny. So how do I put on weight but not fat?

    Thanks in advance,
    Gav

Doing 100 presups doesn't mean your stronger, you just have more endurance :)
How big do you want to get, and how fast do you want to do it in?

Well then I'm more enduring than my friends:D
I would like to get to maybe 10 stone(is this possible) and do it fairly quickly(say by the end of the year).

Usually you eat more and do your weight training. Then when you get to the size you want, you do a thing called cutting.
You can get bigger and keep the same bodyfat but it takes more work,ie diet cardio etc.

Try starting with that and you'll put on 2 kg a week of muscle for awhile.Just eat like a horse .

Tbh, I haven't done any weight training in my life as I've always been told you shouldn't do weights until you're 16.

I don't think you should be telling a 15 yo to bulk and cut conceited, there's plenty of time for that when he's in his mid twenties. Atm he's running on GH and will grow pretty well if he eats a lot and trains well.

I'm not sure if there are any beginners programmes in the stickies op, maybe something to look for. There's nothing wrong with lifting at 15, or earlier, but you can't go back in time!

So would pushups, chinups etc. help me put on weight and muscle because I can remember my arms used to seem alot bigger than they are now.

You will have a hard trime putting it on, just eat like a pig and you'll be fine.:D

You need to be eating a lot ( calculate your basic calorie requirements and then add a few hundred calories to this amount) and increasing the amount of weight you are lifting every week/fortnight.

Weight training is just one form of resistance exercise, bodyweight exercises are just another too, you already are doing weight lifting- lifting flesh & blood ;)

To make the pushups more effective for strength & size gains try elevating your legs, put them on a bed/chair/stairs. Try doing a handstand pushup. Do bodyweight squats and get a chinning bar. You can also do dips between chairs. A search on youtube will have examples of all these.

Below the age of 16,I wouldn't bother bulking as your testosterone levels wont be as high until your 16+.Thats why young teens/children/women see very little bulk growth because their testosterone levels are lower than males in the age group of 17-25.

    + 1, couldn't agree more.

@ eroo, what does that mean, if you don't fall into the 17-25 age group, you can't make progress?

So would you guys say I'm too skinny. I'm not losing any weight but haven't put any on even though I've grown a couple of inches in the last couple of months.

See the problem with guys your age is that you're growing in height like weeds, so your body is going to prioritise that ahead of adding additional muscle. I imagine you'd need a SERIOUS amount of calories if you wanted to add an appreciable amount of muscle to your frame.

So there aint much hope unless I start eating loads of calories and maybe start weight training. It's kinda hard to stick to a diet though because I'm in school and can't fit 6 meals into a day.

Breakfast - little break (we had a 15 min one) - big break (an hour for us) - just home meal - dinner - pre bed

There's 6 eating times!! You don't have to be having solid food at all 6 either. A couple of pints of milk or some shakes could be used to compensate.

You should just eat as much as you can whenever you can for now. you could easily fit in three or four eggs per day, and you are already getting plenty of milk, so thats good. Weight training is great though, you shouldn't see it as a chore. It's just so good for you for so many reasons. Just make sure you are getting in proper big lifts, squats deads bench and overhead presses, instead of tons of biceps curls like guys your age usually do.

eat loads and loads and loads, enjoy, and keep doing your pushups. Try chinups if you want. You've PLENTY of time to worry about putting on muscle. Enjoy your time of not being able to put on weight, it won't last forever! ;)

I was a skinny bastard until I was 19. Reason for this was I wasn't particularly tall until I hit 16. I grew loads over two years-all of my body's energy went into growing. Good choice methinks.

Children and women don't respond as well to weightlifting as males in the age bracket of 17-25.When I say don't respond as well,I mean muscular growth won't be very great. However, there will always be exceptions.

When I said bulk growth,I meant muscle bulk from weightlifting.

Maybe not to the extent of an 18-20 year old, but they can still get bigger and stronger. In fact the younger they are, the easier the more open their CNS will be to acquiring new skills and they'll learn complicated movement patterns with greater ease.

That's one of the best reasons why people should get into weightlifting/powerlifting at a young age. They can spend a lot of time refining their technique, they've a great head start and will get bigger and stronger faster.

My advice would be to join a team or club, I wish I had of when I was a lot younger, it will be more fun and just eat loads.

You are young, join a team, maybe a class that teaches you fun stuff and has a bit of craic etc, any interest in martial arts??

Yeah I was doing tea kwon do for a while and got my blue belt but I was stuck in a class with mostly 8 year olds and I wasn't allowed near the weights even with the instructor there with me. But I am doing judo in school this year and it seems like good fun.
