Cigar smoking

What are people’s opinions on Cigar smoking?
I am thinking about joining an unofficial Cigar smoking club in the company I work for as I believe it is a good way to network with senior management. I am a non smoker but have smoked the odd cigar before and have been told that it is a great way to relax from the stresses of work.

Why do you need our opinions? If you want to join, join.
I personally like smoking cigars but others don't.

    Don't inhale.
Try a few alone at home first so you don't cough and stuff.

I find it funny that you're asking about a Cigar Smoking Club, and your username is CSC. Are you a shill? A coincidence? An elaborate ruse by the cigar companies? The degeneration of our social values by the overtly liberal media? Jesus H. tap-dancing Christ! There's been a woman in the White House Áras an Uachtaráin for nearly 18 years now!

Be sure to grow a mustache before you join, you always look cooler smoking a cigar if you have a mustache :)

    Coincidence, believe me.

Cigars are nice. You'll become a smoker in time though, you do realise that?

You obviously don't work for these guys.

Cigars... Clark Gable smoking a cigar, ummmm...
They smell rather bad though, so not cool unless you're 40/50

Somewhat equivelent to getting pissed on wine wine tasting.

Ive only ever smoked it once. At a bar in vegas with a drink in the other hand.

Thanks for your opinions. As I said I think it will be a good way to get networking with the senior people in the company.

Taking up smoking is a really idiotic thing to do. Believe me.

I think there is a big difference between having a 20 a day cigarette habit and smoking a cigar once or twice a month.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,061 ✭✭✭✭Terry

Yeah. I started on one or two a month.

    Now I smoke 40-50 a day.

Best of luck in your career.

Have you met mr. Nico Tine?

I know the dangers of smoking. As I said I intend to smoke no more than one or two a month.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,165 ✭✭✭✭brianthebard

I don't have a problem with you smoking, far from it, just think its a bit silly to not at least acknowledge the high probability of becoming a smoker more often, even if its not twenty a day. I know a few people (well men, innit) who smoke cigars, and they have a few cigarettes between them. The probably don't smoke as much as a cigarette smoker, because the cigar is a much bigger and sustained hit, but they still definitey smoke more often than 2 per month.

I smoke Cigars, infact i brought back about 30 really big ones and im talkin Tony Soprano size Cigars from Spain, i only smoke them on a special occasion. And no i wont smoke all 30 by this time next year.

I too smoke cigars, usually cafe creme but obviously prefer a nice cuban. I smoke (and inhale) about 15 a day. Some day I'll manage to give up. Still, the thought of a cigar club does nothing for me!

Does anyone buy from the Decent Cigar Emporium in Grafton Street? I believe they have a very good selection and the staff are very helpful if you are not in the know. I will call in there at the weekend and pick some up.

Cigar smoking can be really enjoyable, but if you dont like it, dont force yourself to smoke it.

    Few tips.

    Dont inhale.

Before lighting take a few long draws from the unlight stogie to appreciate the aroma and light tingle from nicotene on your lips.

DONT HOLD IT IN YOUR TEETH!!

Take a few draw and leave it in the ash tray for a little bit, but make sure it doesnt go out.

Let the smoke swirl in your mouth for a second and then blow it out slowly.

Leave the ring on it until it is about two inches left then carefully take it off.

Remember, Cuba is not the only place in the world that makes good cigars.
Honduras, Niceragua, Dominican Republic and even Connecticut believe it or not make top class Cigars!

Start off with something light with an easy draw. Like a Romeo y Julieta No. 3

And, let me know how ya get on. I am quite young and dont know many people my age that smoke cigars.

    Happy Smoking!

Forget the Decent Cigar Emporium man.

They are good and very helpful but this, I found is the best place.

I've been buying off them about a year.

    Very Good

cigars are a fun way to get away from the women while they clean up after a nice dinner, usually done in the company of other men, the bigger your cigar, the wealthier you are , if you dont join the club, you belong in the kitchen, be a real man and join

    No problem CSC

On the website you can order a starter sample pack

5 cigars all mixed, you get a free cutter and cigar matches.

    Also P+P is free

    Works out at about €66

I couldn't give a flying fúck if you get hooked on them as far as this forum is concerned.

    There is a smoking forum.
Give Des a shout if you want access.

If you really want to smoke cigars, start small and light.

Something small-ish, mild, with a max smoking time of 30 - 40 minutes.

Don't try to impress anyone with the strongest, thickest, longest cigar you can come up with ...it'll just make you sick.

In Cubans, the H.Upman Corona Junior is a very smokable cigar, even for the novice. It actually tastes very nice, doesn't knock you over and won't give you the runs either.:D (plus it's affordable)

Wrong on two levels that come to mind

    1. You get cancer and emphsyema (sp?) and cardio vascular disease and countless other health consequences.

    2. If you're of short stature, it reeks (!) of compensation. Very unattractive.

    1. The health aspect is a factor but I live in a fit and healthy lifestyle so don't think two cigars per month will do any serious damage to me.
    2. It's a good way to meet and socialise with senior people in my company outside of work. This can only work in my favour when it comes to promotions etc.

Listen, it's really idiotic to try to impress people by smoking.
I'm smoking a cigarette as I write this and regret the day I started.

If the people you work with are impressed by others smoking, then they are complete idiots and are not people you should be looking up to.

Who the **** looks up to someone who would willingly destroy their own body.

It's not about looking up to people who smoke; it's about joining a social club that will help me to get to know very important people within the organisation I work.

Listen, if you start smoking to impress people, then you are an idiot.

I don't think I can make it much clearer than that.

What is the point of it? Like, you don't get much of a high off it or something like a caffeine hit, so what is exactly the point of it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,612 ✭✭✭Dardania

its the intoxicating feeling of superiority & masculinity when comparing yourself to the serfs isn't it? ;-)

The point is that it is a good way to relax and socialise with like minded people.

As long as you don't inhale (which has been mentioned twice already and is also how you smoke cigars and pipes) I see no reason to think you're going to get cancer. The smoke stays in the mouth and does not reach the lungs.
