    Hey
Has anyone noticed any problems with their NTL BB service today, I'm on the 10mb package and my download speed has dropped from an approx. 10mb to well under 1mb over the last hour, my upload speed has remained the same. Just wanted to know if anyone else noticing any issues before I have the hassle of getting on to NTL.

    Cheers

Same here - 20MB package but have been getting under 100KB/s downloads all weekend, this afternoon it's down to under 50KB/s. I suppose they're support lines are closed till the morning.

have to say its the first bad experience I've had with this company, anyone any ideas what could be causing it, seems odd if the problem isn't just localised in dublin but stretching out to waterford

Same here in D15, I'm on the 10mb package. Speedtest is showing a ping to a dublin server of 102ms, download of 1.41mb/s and a upload of 0.86mb/s. Anyone know how to find out what my connection speed is on the ntl netgear wireless g router??

Yeh, noticed that as well. Usually if the BB is down so is the phone, but this time the phone is working fine but BB is dead.

    Busted here too.

I can ping the two DNS servers (89.101.160.4 and .5) but I can't get any useful information out of them.

Something's rightly buggered in NTL's network.

    OpenDns does not help.

Up to about 5 minutes ago you also could not reach upc.ie from any provider, but that is back, so maybe our bb comes back soon too.

South Dublin for me. UPC down since around quarter to nine, tv workign fine though, and is renewing IP addresses and modem seems to work fine. Looks like a widespread problem, someone posted about it also being down in Cork.

i just looked at he website, they do have customer care line open from 10am to 10pm on a Sunday, I didn't think they would have anything. I just called and the automated response says at 9.50pm they know of service problems to customers and are working on it.

/feels like South Park episode called Over Logging :). I'd link to youtube but I just tested my speed with Speedtest.net from Vodafone HSDPA: 358kbit/sec down, 58kbit/sec up......ARGGHHHHHH!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,165 ✭✭✭✭brianthebard

Did anyone ring them bout it?Its my housemates network so i dont have any of the details,or i would've rang.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 56 ✭✭ciscokidder

Its down for me in last few hours FFS (d12). I can get to the ntl dns server only - it can't even resolve from there on. Probably a big time screw up. Scope issue or whatever. Online via vodafone 3g (cr@p but its better than using the post...)

Thanks for the info thread, gents. Had UPC/NTL install the broadband service only on Friday, so was afraid there was some hassle on the account end (luckily, still have my eircom phone line and DSL network for another two weeks).

Cheers for posting the helpful info!

Been down for a few hours here in Dublin 9, but some sites slowly coming back.

One of the Google IPs (74.125.39.104) working, others aren't. boards.ie back, last.fm working, gmail working, snappieT.com working. Otherwise everything is dead.

Edit: Right as I type this, everything seems to be back. Deadly.

Back for me too - Dublin 7 area. Got home around 22:00 and it was completely dead - some things still seem sluggish but it's improving by the minute.

Mine is back up too, and it's faster too. :) I was due an upgrade I think, I was on 2Mb now it looks like 6Mb.

Silver lining I suppose. If only they didn't have to break my connection for 2 hours to do it (or at least warn me beforehand!).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,257 ✭✭✭Pete67

Seems fine here now too, just tested at around 18Mbit/s down and 1.3Mbit/s up. Wonder what happened? Obviously fairly major, good to know they had the resources to get it sorted on a Sunday night!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,259 ✭✭✭Yggr of Asgard

    Swords is not back yet.

Edited at 2332 GMT, I'm back online and with good speed too.

speedtest.magnet.ie claims I have Download Speed: 18610 kbps (2326.3 KB/sec transfer rate) and Upload Speed: 1445 kbps (180.6 KB/sec transfer rate).

Fibre strike in the Inchicore/Clondalkin area. It's affected a bunch of carriers. There's a crew out re-splicing fibres atm, should be finished within the hour apparently :)

Was out over here in D15 and most of D15 from what I heard. Back up and running again..

I take it the phone service is run seperately snce that didnt go down?

I was havign a skype conversation when it went down, but that stayed active not havign internet acess. When I reset everything (obviously ending the skype call at that stage) it signed me into skype again but it wouldnt show me who was online. My cousin that I was talking to on skype at the time is on NTL too so it was a bit odd when we both lost internet but were able to continue talkignon skype.

Was gone yesterday evening here in D15, completely. Phone service was working fine as was digital and analogue TV.

Rebooted the cable modem a few times and all lights were on, so I guess the connection to UPC's network was fine, but their connection to the internet was down.

I had to reboot this morning before mine connected again, did everyone else have to do that?
