Has anyone got theirs yet? I'm still waiting on mine. The reason I ask is because there's a guy in the area with the same name as me so I'm worried that he'll get it instead

So it is. Funnily enough, there have been business days between offers-day and now, too.

I'm not asking anyone to do anything beyond provide information. It may be a strenuous task for some, I concede.

I was working in the admissions office last week helping get the orientation packs ready, and all those from the first-round offers have been packed now - those for Ireland outside of Dublin (but including NI) went off for posting on Friday morning, with the rest going off on Saturday. Labelling, packing and cross-checking 2,500 packs in the space of two and a half days isn't bad going, remember that the offers weren't confirmed until Tuesday evening! The packs in question are for undergraduates going into their first year (or people transferring internally from other courses), and are tailored to each course; they mostly contain info about dates and times for meetings/tours, Garda vetting forms/immunisation info if applicable, forms to send back if you have to choose modules for your course, and so on. Unlike previous years where the packs were folders with loads of loose sheets, this year they are nicely stapled booklets.

My advice: just sit back and think about things other than college. There's a whole month left before fresher's week.

Just got my pack this morning...way nicer than last years with all pages flying everywhere!! Kudos to whoever thought of putting it all in one book!!

Quick question, I registered as a student last year but dropped out....do I register as a new student agin this year or as a continuing student...to quote the book
"students who in previos academic years registered for an undergraduate course of study will be catagorised as continuing students"

Does this apply to students going into 2nd,3rd year etc? Very confused :confused:

To quote the letter in your pack, you should register with continuing students, not new entrants. But if in doubt then contact the admissions office.

I don't think your email changes, and your student card from last year will be valid up till 31st of October and you'll probably have to que for less time. And you can still do all the things that freshers do...

Aaah, it was very nice to read this topic thinking "but where's mine!!" and then walking out and seeing it in the mail :).

Is anyone gonna do any of those optional language classes? I was thinking of doing one in french, but people say that the foreign language societies are better... perhaps I should make a topic on it.

Yeah I will probably do one of those classes..but there is no A2 level french classes I suppose I could be of B1 standard could you not do the classes and join the society?..

The optional language classes do have the added advantage of being a apart of your timetable, and you'll have excercises to do in the language labs and so forth. I did one in first year and the class was a bit of a mixed bag in terms of ability, but most people got between a B3 and an A1. The difference between an A1 in the LC and a B1 can be a good examine. There was room for the stronger students to learn more.

Huzzah! Remebered my email password for myzone after a few attempts!!

Rang admissions and they said to register as a new student...interesting!

Might do the Irish classes just to keep conversation skills up a bit...is there a lot of work involved does anyone know?

Definately gonna do french anyway. I kinda want to start a new language, but depending on the workload of taking two? I presume if I begin I can always drop out, seeing as its optional and all. Wanted to take spanish as a beginner but only Italian and Turkish.......Turkish could be interesting! :P

Are you allowed to do more than one class? I definately want to do German, but I wouldn't mind taking up a new one too...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47 for-why?

oh i dunno if we are or not! I just presumed so. well I dont see why not if they dont clash on the timetable and the like. i dont sound nerdy at all, signing up for not one, but two extra classes.Meh.....i'll see.....

turkish being delightful.....took me a few seconds i have to say! :pac:

I think we get timetables at the course meetings during FW.
Or at the General Orientation Meeting, but i'm almost certain it will be at the course meetings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 446 ✭✭lilmizzme

yup, we didnt get timetables til our course meetings of freshers week...and even then they chopped and changed them for a week or so afterwards, so its not set in stone....

Filled out my history choices like a good little fresher...just have to decide on a laguage course now.....to do or not to do...

Did everyone get the orientation pack and the bank giro form because the giro thingy and all that paper has confused does all have to be in by the 15th yea?Jeese I hate filling out forms! If you have a grant what do you about paying the 900 squid?

Oh yeah do you have to go to everyday of freshers week or just the day that your course registration is on?

If you get a grant contact the Fees office and tell them you're getting a grant, and you shouldn't have to pay. Paying registration fees and getting a refund really negates the whole point of getting a grant!
