Waterford Flags

Fair play to the City Council on all the Waterford flags they have put up along the ferrybank dual carraigeway, sallypark, the bridge, along the quay and the dunmore road (I believe they are on the Cork Road too). With 3 flags on each lampost it looks very impressive. So credit where its due.

Would be nice now if John Roberts Square could be festooned with flags and bunting.

I think the City Council are going to have a big screen for the game in John Roberts Square, and for the homecoming on the Monday evening.

They were putting the flags up on the Dunmore Road this afternoon. It is a sight to behold.

    Fair play to them.

I must get my boys to put up our flags and bunting at the front of our house.

I think its funny that theres flags on every pole all the way from sallypark to the chruch in ferrybank and only on a handful on the pole's on the quay:D:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,682 ✭✭✭deisemum

There's 3 on each pole on the Dunmore Road

Was on my way into work this morning and took a short cut through Larchville and what a sight I saw before me.

The flags and butings in the estate are absolutely fantastic and gave me a great boost as i faced another day in work.

The estate comes in for a lot of stick throughout the city but my god each and every person involved in this has done themselves and the area proud.

I'm bringing my kids out later to show them.

Congrats once again to all involved, brilliant and well done.

Where I live its starting to look like a competiton - who can be Mr Waterford? Someone has painted the top of thier front garden wall white/blue and got the whole flag production of China stretched out between house and said wall - in fact half the estate is done this way.

    Mike.

There's alot of flags up in Hillview too - even some Kilkenny ones!

It would warm the cockles of your heart seeing how well some places are decorated. It's putting a smile on my face just seeing it all.

I went out yesterday and bought even more flags from the large to small to car ones, inflatable hammers, hands, more hats, feather boas, stuff for the car, etc.

The shops were sold out of bunting but will be getting more in.

My sons are so excited about Waterford getting to the final. They were in Walsh Park the other night and got lots of signatures. My 10 year old keeps getting his shirt out and looking at the signatures. He sits back in the evenings and loves looking through his Waterford calander. He is so proud of the Waterford hurlers. These guys are his heroes.

I reckon the primary schools will get the pupils involved in decorating the schools in white and blue next week. I'll have my mindees back to me next week and I'm planning on getting them involved in finishing off decorating the house in white and blue.

I'm not originally from Waterford but I'm very excited about the whole thing. I must root out my Galway flag since we're in the minors.

Apparently there was a load of white 'n blue flags and a sign saying "Waterford North" on the N25 as far as Slieverue which all went missing.

No idea - we usually just redesign it for clients when they come to us looking for Deise stuff. I think the above is slightly outdated if my memory serves me correctly. Unless you asked one of the printers inside in town - there is a lot of banners going about with the Waterford crest. If they didnt re-design it I would imagine they have a source.. :)

From home, I run a Web & Graphic design company. Busy time of the year! We do a lot of design for print materials.

Ya good point, local businesses should really get together.

Also, I passed Larchville today - very nice. Also Ossory Drive up from Paddy Browns there is looking well.

A post in one thread is banter. Posts in 4 threads is trolling.

    <snip>

personally the shops must be making a mint, altho everyone should buy them in the shop where chapmans used to be , all the proceeds go to the waterford hurlers, they need hurleys after all,!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,682 ✭✭✭deisemum

I went back into the shops this evening and still couldn't get any bunting and the shops said they wont be getting anymore in.

Does anyone know if there's any left in that shop where chapman's used to be or anywhere else for that matter?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 128 ✭✭twinkle77

Deisemum have you tried the discount shop in lisduggan shopping centre? just to add my 2 cents worth.... I am getting some buzz driving to work every day passing all the houses that are now draped in flags and bunting as for the cars..... every second one i pass has so many flags etc. flying. I have never experienced anything like it!!!! There are no words to describe it, it is just what this town needs. I am so proud to be from waterford........UP DE DEISE!!!!.......COME ON DE BOYS!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,682 ✭✭✭deisemum

Thanks for that twinkle. I'll try and get over there tomorrow or else into where Chapmans used to be.

I saw what I presume is the big screen thingy in John Roberts Square this evening. It's very big.

I reckon next week in the build up to the match the excitement will be something else.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,620 ✭✭✭Roen

I saw a lad in a jeep driving down the quay last night. He had a load of Waterford flags out the windows and on the roof and a Kilkenny flag on the trailer hitch being dragged along the ground.

I have to admit I laughed.

I got bunting, whistles and face paint in the €2 shop in Lisduggan. On the way back the council were out in a jcb putting up more flags much to the delight of passing motorists and pedestrians.

I also saw this yesterday and assumed that it was also for the big screen, but now I'm not so sure. I has also seen scaffolding put up down by the tower hotel and now I'm thinking that it might be for this and not for the match at all.

I was reared in Sexton Street & my Grandad still lives there & I live around the corner so will post some pics v soon & perhaps some video on this thread. Sexton Street does look fantastic :pac:but the noise of the flags blowing can drive you mad!! Most of the hard work was put in by the Flynns & Keoghs/Moores doing up the street. ;)

I just won 2 tickets to the All Ireland final. Very happy husband here :D:D:D

Fair play to you. Was it in a club lottery or just a raffle of some sorts? Enjoy the day. I cant wait for it now.

Sexton Street is one of the side streets off Griffith Place which is off of Morrissons road

Thanks for that, should make a nice Sunday drive before the football semi-final.

I won them on Todayfm's GAA programme this morning. Hubby and our 2 boys have been going to all the matches for years and we haven't been able to get tickets yet. I'm letting them use the tickets and hope we can get 1 more ticket so the 3 of them can go. If we can get 2 tickets then I'll go and support Galway as well.
