Exercises for building core strength/stability after back injury

    Hi all,
Firstly, as per the Charter, I'll mention that I'm rebuilding my fitness following a lower back injury. After having an operation the back itself seems to be fine - I'm cycling and playing football socially without significant pain or discomfort, and my flexibility seems to be improving.

However, as I was laid up for well over a year, whatever stomach/back/hip strength I had has gone to the dogs, so I'm looking for advice on exercises to improve this. The short-term aim is to improve my core stability and thus prevent future injury. You can assume I'm starting from a low base as I don't want to aggrevate the old injury with too much, too soon.

Can anyone suggest a range of exercises / programme that might suit? I'm not a gym member, so maybe some sit-up style floor exercises might work. Something to work the back and abs in equal meaure would be great.

    Thanks for your help.

as you've had an injury its very hard for someone on the internet to advise what you should do, if i was in your situation i would go see a physio and ask them about hom mush range of movement you have and what kinda exercises you can do without aggravting it.

you can also try get a fit ball and do some core exercises on it. it comes with examples of the sit up etc, but i would really go to the physio first.
