How long do you think it would take for a 6'4'' guy @ 310lbs with BF around the 35% mark, to get in good enough shape to run a marathon?

    /end random question.

Personally i think a year would be very optimistic but not impossible, more like 18 months.

Yeah I don't think a year sounds too unreasonable. If Oprah can do one then then there's hope for everybody.

But then again what do I know - I'm an idiot who bases his life around Oprah Winfrey's achievements. You might be better of taking this to the Athletics forum. I would think there's a lot more people there who have marathon experience...

Well I'm hoping that 10 months is long enough for me to get in shape for a marathon (female, 5 6ish, 62kg, not the foggiest notion of my bodyfat ratio thingy) but I guess it probably depends on what you want from a marathon for example I just want to run one, the whole length of the course and make it across the finish line even if it takes me all day whereas other (fitter) people set out with times in mind and so on.

There is a forum under sports dedicated to marathon/triathlon running which you might find useful - best of luck :)

6 months is plenty of time for almost anyone to get marathon fit but you've got to get out there
    1- run
    2- watch what you eat
    3- recover well
    4- not get injured

1-3 are in your own hands
4- is a matter of luck to some degree. Even the most sensible, careful of us sometimes get hurt.

ha ha :D you're jkoing yeh? with the pfft bit

I think its a hard one to answer, and the deciding factor is their mindset more than anything else. I know people that can just beast through stuff, regardless of fitness, work, personal problems etc

Some people are alot more focused than others, and will hit it guaranteed,

Good to see hunny reckoning 6 months is do-able though
