Hi everyone, I had intended to do this sooner but with the terrible weather and all! :D

I've recently got into the weight, punching etc. to improve my strenght and now hope to match that with fitness.

I'm not exactly the fittest, and by far not the fastest, and these are two areas I want to improve before the new soccer season in a few weeks. I'm aiming for right wing position, I've got the skill without the pace. This is a factor I really want to improve. Any tips for someone of my age (16)? Jogging, water, rope skipping etc. and if so how many a day.

Remember speed is a factor I really want to improve, and also be able to last a 70 minute or so match with no fitness problems. Thanks! :D

    Punching?
Well you could try more running as that what it sounds like you need in combination with a starting strength program.

soccer is a mainly anaerobic sport, sprinting etc.
so try doing some cardio exercise that work to that effect.
so you cardio should be high intenity interval training.
so you would do one min sprints, followed by one minuate jogs and repeat.

for speed to prob need to do stretch your hip flexors. so lunges, step up, squat jumps, power lunges, tuck jumps will help that.
as with soccer you will do a lot of turning while running incorporate this into your runs. or do pyramid sprints, sprint to first cone turn, sprint back, sprint to second turn sprint back, etc.

starting strengh wont help you with speed really. its not designed for that.

explosive movements will help also, such as plyometric (clap) push ups, snatches, box jumps etc.

I only said starting strength as he said he was starting to do weights and it would seem to be a good choice for that part.

OK so cardio involves running, right?

Sorry to be a pain but what exactly are involved in these: lunges, step up, squat jumps, power lunges, tuck jumps, hip flexors, snatches, box jumps
I started strenght, basically to get stronger. I was awfully weak.
I often should I do the cardio and those ezcerises when I find out whats involved?
Also, I've started to drink lots of water is that also a help?
What about skipping, I hear that gets you more nimble and therefore more faster.

    Thanks!

water is a good thing, but it wont make you faster.
try do the training 3 days a week.

skipping is a good cardio training, it will helpl with coordination, i dont really see how it would make you faster, but there will be no harm is doing it.
