On October 30th, KCLR will broadcast The Devious Theatre Company performing a new radio version of HG Wells classic sci-fi horror, The War of the Worlds. It will air 70 years to the date of Orson Welles famous Mercury Theatre broadcast on CBS on October 30th 1938.

Welles broadcast famously caused widespread hysteria throughout an unsuspecting America. Listeners thought the account of a Martian invasion in rural New Jersey was really happening and caused unprecedented panic in America. It still remains one of the greatest ever examples of the power of radio and media manipulation of the mass population. Under the impression that America was in the grip of a Martian invasion, people fled their homes and cities in an effort to escape the Martian machines.

The new version has been written by The Devious Theatre Company and is being performed by their acting troupe. It localises the global attack of the Wells novel entirely in the Kilkenny / Carlow region as a variety of different narrators take us through an account of the fateful 3 week period where alien tripods laid waste to the world with their laser beams and earth choking red weed.

This hour long performance of HG Wells The War of the Worlds will air exclusively on KCLR 96FM on October 30th at 9pm. Stay tuned into www.devioustheatre.com for more updates on the production.

Why not just ask money from each resident like most resident associations do?

We have asked for money. This is just an opportunity to raise some more, plus a chance for people to socialise.

It's not exclusive to just residents, hence the reason for posting on here.

Shakespeare in the House is on July 26th and 27th in Rothe House. Thats this Saturday and Sunday! It is Devious Theatre and Dreamstuff with some help from Cartoon Saloon all lending their considerable talents for no gain whatsoever just entertaining and educating all the lucky people who come along. Did I mention it is free! No money! As in you dont have to put your hand in your pocket! Gratis! Not a penny! Free I tell you! Nothing! Hope the weather keeps well for all the children both old and young involved none of who are related to me. Did I say that I too have no alternative motive for promoting this festival just the goodness of my heart , my love of the words of the Bard and for the pleasure that a group of inspired beings are giving to this city this weekend for free.

OK so half the country is broke or on the dole so a couple of us decided to run a little cheap and cheerful mini-festival this August for people that want the buzz of a festival without having to pay the entire college grant for the ticket and €9 every time they go to the bar for a plastic half litre of fetid beer.

We have Darren Rice (Beat FM Planetlove and Oxegen) to headline and he plays dance, but there's 2 rooms of music incorporating funk, soul, disco and rock tunes as well... we chose our DJ's to cater for all tastes.

    outlands.jpg

It's just a cheap bit of fun for the people who are skint these days, or simply for those who like keeping it local :)

Tickets are a recession buggering tenner (plus a nominal booking fee for the nice man in the shop) and will be on sale from this weekend in Rollercoaster. They are already up on www.tickets.ie Transport will be avaiable from town to the venue too.

Check out http://www.outlandsmusic.net more info, or support us by adding yourself as a fan at www.bebo.com/outlandsmusic

    CAPTURE THE FLAG KILKENNY

On August 23rd, Kilkenny's streets play host to a free urban game of capture the flag. Some of you may remember playing capture the flag in a summer camp when you were younger. Maybe you've played it on the annual company team-building game of paintball, but either way you now have the chance to play it in an urban setting throughout the medieval streets of Kilkenny.

    Capture the Flag FAQ

    What the JESUS?!
Capture the flag is a team based game comprising of 2 teams. Red vs Blue. Each team has their own flag which they must protect from the other team while simutaniously trying to capture the other teams flag and return it to HQ. Red team is at Black Abbey, Blue Team is at Kilkenny Castle

    Can I play?
Sure! Just mosey on down to the Town Hall on High street at 2pm on 23rd August 2009. The tag system and rules will be explained to you, then you'll be split into teams and the game begins!

    How many flags?
    2

    Where is this based?

It is based across roughly 1km² of kilkenny. If you want a map just view it in the pictures on this bebo.
    ...so 3 flags?

    No. Just 2 flags.

    Whats this tag system yoke?

It's kind of like tag rugby. Each player is given a bandana at the start of the game. You are not "in" the game unless you have a bandana. This is placed in an easy-to-steal place like your beltloop. You tag other players by taking their bandanas. You can't be tagged on your own side of Kilkenny. Boundries are on the map. When tagged you return to HQ (Town Hall) and get another bandana and continue the game.

    How many flags again?
    Get out.

Check out the video we made as well! :D

This event marks the launch of punchthesphinx.com, an online platform for Kilkenny's youth. It's a blog written by KK Youth for KK Youth about things they're interested in.

It's all happening at the Town Hall on High St. on August 23rd at 2pm. It’s a free event so all you need to bring are runners as its set to be a faced paced game! You can follow the action on Twitter with the #kkctf tag and on bebo at http://bebo.com/kkctf for more info.

Just a suggestion, and opportunity for me to plug this. It may or may not be your cup of tea:

For info on what's happening the Kilkenny People (our local paper) might be a good bet, and there's sites too (Kilkenny Alive etc).
