the town has gone to the dogs boy 😂

in all honesty though, i wish the council would focus on developing the city centre. half the buildings are derelict and unoccupied. kilkenny in comparison is much, much smaller, but has more on and attracts a lot more tourists

O'Connell Street and some of the streets off it such as Vulcan Street look awful. I know there has been good work done with the culture quarter but there's a lot of work to be done. There's trees growing out of the old Youthreach building, which is a shame giving that is a fine building.

When the middle-classes moved out the Dunmore Road and the council built small social estates in the city centre and the new apartments are filled up with non-nationals what did you expect would happen?

Looks like a decent set of events on for the 4 day weekend, more than I would have thought. A few outdoor stages with plenty of bands etc...

Harvest Festival to end a day early

    Saturday, September 10, 2022

DUE to an orange weather warning issued by Met Éireann, the Harvest Festival, due to run into tomorrow, will conclude in Waterford this evening at 8pm.

The official warning for Waterford and Cork runs from 3am tomorrow (Sunday) morning to 3am Monday with persistent heavy rain forecast along with potential disruption due to isolated thunderstorms and localised flooding.

Said Festival Co-Director Shona Dubois: “We have to admit we are devastated to have to cancel Sunday’s events. We have, however, decided to remain open late this evening until 8pm and we would like to encourage everyone who was planning to visit the festival tomorrow to join us in Waterford this afternoon and soak up all of the festival fun and atmosphere.”

The Harvest Festival, supported by Waterford City & County Council and organised by GIY, showcases Waterford’s food heritage through a series of Food Done Right food talks.

Meanwhile, the Taste Waterford Kitchen is offering a selection of cookery demos plus the Harvest Festival Market showcasing producers from within 100 miles of Waterford while over 50 per cent of producers in the market are also from Waterford.

In the Junior GIY-ers area at Broad Street, families will enjoy learning how to grow food through the seasons with Muireann Ní Chíobháin, co-author of the GIY Know it Allmanac.

There’s also seed sowing, ‘bug bingo’, a Waste Warrior Workshop from Food Cloud, the Nore Valley Mobile Farm – and more.

The live music stage will be filled throughout the day, with Back Road Smokers Club performing at Bailey’s New Street this evening.
