I was going to get the 250GB but realised it was only €8 cheaper than the 320GB. What's €8. Only problems I had was getting the new hard drive into the cage. Those screws were impossible to keep in place, they kept falling out.Oh and I also put the firmware in the wrong folder, took me a while to figure that one out. :o

if its a new laptop it will void ur warranty and ur ps3 warranty will be void aswell
1 make sure its not the drive with the os on it or anything else important and it has to be formatted to fat32
2 yeah it will be safe
3 i think ya can check the speed from device manager, it should be wrote on the hd aswell

If it voids your ps3 warranty explain why they give you detailed instructions in the manual you get with the ps3...

I got a western digital 320GB drive off dabs for €80 delivered. Works like a dream.

Didnt realise a 320 was that cheap :(:(
Think the cheapest 320 in maplins yesterday was 140 or something like that.

Ill install this one and see how it goes space wise,I can always upgrade again in the future.

One more stupid question before I start this---How do I back up my old game saves etc?
    Thanks

Hook up a usb drive/hard drive and go to system>System settings> Back up Utility. This will back up all saved data to the external drive.

Does there have to be a particular file structure on the external for the backed up files?

The hard drive/flash drive has to be fat32 but apart from that nope.

Which one of these would be better as i wouldnt have a clue

    http://www.memoryc.com/storage/internalharddrive/160gbhitachitravelstar5k250sata.html

    Or this one

    http://www.elara.ie/products/detailsfullft.asp?productcode=MME2752231#spec

I know the seagate has more capacity obviously but just wondering would it be a good buy, or would i be better going with the toshiba?
Goin to get one of them so any help would be appreciated

I would personally go for the bigger capacity over any other consideration.

I have a 320GB and even I'm starting to run out of space. I only have about 80GB left. I say only and I know that 80GB is a lot of space to have left over but I only have the new drive in about 6 months. I do wish I'd had forked out for a larger drive. I will have to eventually and I just know it's going to be a hassle backing up the 320GB and restoring it to a larger drive.

I have a lot of music, pictures, video and PSN games and demos on it which I'd rather not delete. PSN games are getting bigger by the day.

so you wouldnt see anything wrong with that seagate? just the fact the price is around the same as the 160gb toshiba makes you think the seagate might not be as good build quality etc..

I don't know about build quality. However I've used Seagate drives in the past [3.5"] and were fine.

I DO know, however, some companies add on extra money just for the brand name.

Ya i might go with that seagate then its price seems good enough . I have a 40gb now but no point in putting stuff on that to fill it up then transfer may aswel just upgrade now .
    Cheers for the help

Ive got a hitachi travelstar 250g hdd and put it in the ps3 today had to put the firmware on a usb drive first bfore i could format it. But the format only took bout 10 mins if even. Now have free space 205gb / 232gb
So now when the ps3 is on you can hear the hdd and what its doing a lot more especially when downloading something . I dunno its a lot more noticeable than the orignal hdd .
So is this the norm for other hdd to be louder ?
