If you get a grant you will be refunded the fees. (registration charge)

Well I am not getting grant :( last year I had to pay 1200 not so this year :). Kevster why do you have to pay 2000?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 164 ✭✭cono121

Heys guys iam starting a course this year (lvl7) in carlow it, wondering what the fees are going to amount to!? I dropped out of my course last year (lvl 8), so i persume iam liable for intution fees!?!? Any ideas guys, no one gave me a figure not even from my last college...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,686 ✭✭✭RealistSpy

I think you just have to pay registration fee. Last year I paid 800 then I had to drop out. I didn't dare tell my parents they would kill me.

what happened to free education? It wouldnt be as bad if they just refered to it as reasonably free education compared to fee paying colleges :)

repeaters have to pay full fees, tuition etc. 800/900 is what the college charge to do the paper work and pay all those guys, free education is worth €1200, if you have to repeat, you are not worthy free education so the goverment charge you for going to college, teaching you a lesson, if you will.

So its €1200 + €900 for the people who have dropped out, withdrew, never finished a course the year before they start the new one, is this what yer saying!?!?

The first answer after asking so many people, incl the people in the admissions & registrations office
    cool... cheers bud

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,181 ✭✭✭aynon

    no bother. anything else?

    p.s.

if you are only repeating some subjects not all you have a reduced rate. it is worked out on how many credits you need to pass and how many credits you have already attend.

what i found out also is that if you previously dropped out of a level 6 course and re-apply next year or within 5 years for a higher level 7 or 8 you are not liable for full tuition fees but i got screwed messed up my cao and re-applied for a level 6 i had previously dropped out of a level 6 3 years ago, so i dont know whats goin to happen on reg day i might try and transfer to a level 7 if i can:confused:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 164 ✭✭cono121

    Well basically my situation is:

I started a level 8 course in DIT(2007/2008), didn't like it at all.
So i pulled out during semester 2, before the exams.
Applied to the late application CAO thru DIT admissions office.
I got acceptance letter from CAO & also Carlow IT.
I got enrolement form Carlow IT
So basically i got into carlow, level 7 architectural tech.

    Now accroding to various sources:
-I dont have to pay intution fees since its a level 7
-I have to pay €5000-6000 (total)
-I have to pay €2600 (total)
-I have to pay €900 (reg fee)
    -I have to pay €2000

As of yet, no solid answer, colleges should really fix this "lack of" finacial info for students.
Its very annoying not knowing how much to save throughout the summer for college
It prevented me from going travelling and also some holiday invites

    guess i was lucky :)

...Because I've already been through my four years of college (BSc Computer Science in DIT). So, the government don't pay my fees anymore, the dirty rotten scoundrels! *shakes fist*

Hey guys, how do you actually pay for the reg fee (€900)??
    My mate said cash! CASH!!!
Can you write a cheque or bank giro cause i dont really wanna take out 900 cash! :O

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,980 ✭✭✭Kevster

Did they not send you a bank giro in the post? No reputable organisation is going to make you pay such a large fee by cash - That's just silly. Anyway, if you did not get a giro in the post, then ring the admissions office in college tomorrow (Monday) morning and talk to them about it.

Cheers man, ill do that tomorrow!
Carlow It registration process, very messy so far...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,980 ✭✭✭Kevster

No problem. You're right though: It IS very messy. I only had my bank giro posted to me two days before it was due to be paid, for example... ...those idiots.

    Kevin

i just read back through what i got and no giro or any information on how to pay fees think ill be ringing them aswell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 164 ✭✭cono121

    Update:

I rang 20 mins ago, to the admissions office, spoke to a very nice woman, i asked should i be expecting a bank giro anytime soon, since all i recieved in the post is:
    (1) Acceptance Letter (< 2 weeks ago)-containing letter saying thank you, welcome...etc

    (2) Enrolment Form (< week ago)-containing cover letter, a map, enrolment form, info for grants, info for accommodation, HEA leaflet, registration timetable...

She told me there should have been a bank giro incl. in the second post i received for method of payment. Now i have two other mates also going into first year, they got exact same post, same contents too! This to me, is one big fcuk up! The most important thing, on their part; they forgot to include!

So iam moving wednesday to my new gaf in carlow, so i said to her no point in sending it out as i wont be there, so i am calling into the admissions office as soon as i get there! Anyone in the same shoes as me, expect the same outcome.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,048 ✭✭✭deaglan169

rang admissions you get bank giro on the day and then they have a bank set up at registrations who will handle payments etc...i can kinda remember it being like that when i registered before the bank will then try and bribe you to join them so on so forth grrrrrrrrr

Yes, you can get that **** on the day you go back but, for some reason, some students get it posted to them. I got my giro form a week ago and was told that it was for 'Express Registration'. So, when I go back, I'll already be registered and will just have to pick up my card.

It was the same **** last year tough: Half of my class came back and had 'express registered', whilst the other half had received nothing from the college.

    Kevin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,181 ✭✭✭aynon
