just looking for suggestions on this if you dont mind.

im just home from work now, plan on going the gym at about 3.30 or so but feel hungry now.

should i have something small now or

should i have nothing, go the gym starving then come home and cook something nice and devour it LOL

basicaly im asking is there something good that you can eat before working out or training and whats the best thing to aim for after working out or training?

i do this at the moment :

15 mins on bike warm up
25 mins threadmill interval running brisk walking
    15 mins on cross country
4x12 reps of some ab machine (only in gym since 14 july!)

i would usually come home and cook something like pasta, diced chicken or mince beef, with onion, peppers, tomatoes and pasta sauce or maybe steamed baby spuds with mixed veg and chicken or fish.

is this food ok to eat after the gym?
should i go the gym hungry?

all i have ate today is a bowel of museli at 10.30 and a cup of tea and an apple at 12 midday.

    way way too litlle food.

drop the pasta, way too fatty, add in white or brown rice, or ideally a baked potatoe.

before, you need clean carbs. if you have an hour, 100grms of porridge oats into a blender with a scoop of protein and water, blend it and drink it. don't cook the porridge!!

you have 66grms of clean carb's, and 30 grms of a fast acting protein. the porridge works as a slow release complex carb meal. ideally, this should be included 3 times a day as a stable

Kceire, don't listen to JethroDublin. I'm no expert but what you are having for dinner doesn't seem too bad for what you are doing. Sometimes I would have baked beans before a work out. This is mainly due to tyhe fact that they are quick, semi healthy and they provide me with a decent bit of energy. As far as i know it is beneficial to get carbs in before a work out?? Brown bread and banana does the job.

For the exercises you are doing there is no need to be taking porridge & protein three times a day! I do a fair bit of lurking on this forum and the advice being given out has gone way downhill lately!

    Thats fine if he's bodybuilding.
Poncing about on some ab machine doesnt require that amount of food.
Although i agree his diet is pretty poor and the meal frequencies need to be increased.
I assume from his regime he's lookingto lose weight rather than gain it though..

Thats hardly good advice right there.
Baked beans are processed to buggery and contain huge amounts of sugar.Taking them before a workout would be a bit counterproductive as you'd be using sugar as your energy source.

finally someone who has an idea what he's talking about.

the amount of food was a suggestion, thats why i said ideally. the original post was a pre workout.

but even if he's looking to cut, he needs to up his carbs and triple his protein intake

i'll swap you 2 hero's your diets for my nabba trophy's.

since when do body building trophies and a body building diet have benefit for someone who goes and does :

15 mins on bike warm up
25 mins threadmill interval running brisk walking
    15 mins on cross country
4x12 reps of some ab machine (only in gym since 14 july!)

Degsy, I never proclaimed to be an expert.

Why are you replying to every post looking for advice as though they were looking for pre-comp bodybuilding advice?
