There's plenty of people in your position.
Most of your class won't know anyone else starting off so that does help with making friends early enough.
Join societies etc. and go to the class parties and soon you'll barely even remember that you didn't know anyone else starting out.

I didn't know anyone else when I first went to NUIG and it didn't take long for me to get to know plenty of people. Remembering all their names was a different challenge.

Good luck to you, engineering has the most hardcore timetable in the college. Wanted to work during the year? Should have done arts.

Yea I found out that two days involve 12 hour days for most of the first year, well it can't be that bad I've got long weekends I guess and lots of free time between lectures etc other days of the week jusdging by last years timetable.

I was hoping every day was a weekend in college, still have fingers crossed!:)
I'm beginning to think theres not that much time for partying other than weekends, I dont know I just got the idea that college would be great fun as well as doing the work at the same time, is it?

O yea, is a laptop necessary for engineering? I have a basic dell laptop which isn't great really for battery time, I could always get a new one but is it really necessary for biomed. engineering, money could be well spent on a few crates instead :P

I still haven't got anything from the college, but probably starting then too.

And engineering guy, don't think that just because you have college that you can't go out. You go out BECAUSE you have college.

You don't have to pick your options before the first day right? I want to get an idea of what each involves before I decide.

Nah, should get a good week or two. Go to them all but just make sure you're registered for the right one well in advance of any exam (i.e. before Christmas).

Laptops are very handy but not strictly necessary. I think there's a thread on that already here.
The Dell laptop should do you fine though. There's plenty of places to plug in laptops around here (there's even a special laptop room, which took me almost an entire year to find despite passing by it at least twice a week).

It depends on the subjects you do. But generally, time wise, arts can be pretty nice. That said, around exam time you'll have to put a lot of effort in.

    where is it??

Ground floor of the IT building. Opposite IT125G and next to the Open Access Suite. At least, I think that's where it is. I don't have a great sense of direction...

can someone tell me whats the story wit freshers week. Do we still have lectures during freshers fair?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,401 ✭✭✭shortys94

Where is the building for biomedical engineering? I'm not really sure where all the buildings are, I guess I'll find them on the day.

Not sure how it will be for you in your course, but our lectures started on the second day. Go to a few freshers events by all means -- just don't miss any labs (though unlikely to be on during freshers' week).

you know the way in the handbook they say all first years back on the 15th but then when you look at he orientation schedule for arts it says it starts on the the 16th...so i'm not going in untill the 16th so im just hoping that they don't do anything with arts students if loads turn up.

do you think they'll just send the people home???
