For me it's trying to imagine another colour, I know it's impossible but trying to think about really wrecks my head, I'm sure there are other things as well, what about you guys?

I dont understand this, if you think of another colour (a different colour than what?) your head is wrecked??

    What?

Trying to think of a worse thread than this. I knows it impossible but still it wrecks my head.

    A new colour?

Theres a couple of novels about that. Artists going off on quests to find new colours. I think one dreamed a colour and went mad tring to recreate it or something.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 119 ✭✭captainzapp

the colour thing used to bug me too. like if you try to think up a completely new colour? and anything universe related. like it cant just keep going on forever but if it doesnt then it has to stop but it cant just stop because then whats on the other side of it so it has to be infinite right? i just dont know!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,082 ✭✭✭Captain Ginger

Well for some people trying to think how the universe began ( ie "and what came before that" syndrom") wrecks their head, for me its thinking of "what if there was a new colour".

On the colour vibe, I always used to wonder if colours I saw were the same that you saw.
Like, I see grass as green, but what if you see it as blue, but think it's 'green'? As in, blue is your green... and other colours are messed up, but seem perfect to everyone, even though they could be different?
How are either of us to know, if that's all we know?
    Understand?
    Confused?
    Welcome to my world...

Everything about the world wrecks my head.

How can you see moving pictures on a screen?
    ^and the colour thing.

    And being dead.

How can you take a photo and have it there in front of you?

    So many questions...

i tend to philosiphise in my head every so often about just how enormous everything is...and how tiny everything is.

like the very smallest qwark, whats the made of....what if you zoom in even further beyond the theory. is there a universe in the smallest possible thing?. could there really be an infinite number of universes in so little as our escape key? and vice versa, is our entire universe just a tiny spec in some other world?

the whole string theory thing with multiple dimensions and multiple universes exactly parallel to where we are standing....mind boggling....

    That's an extension of the Zombie Theory, one of the fundamental philosophical queries;

That is, how do you know that everyone else in world isn't a zombie - acting completely autonomously and acting is if they are alive and have conscious minds, but they don't? How do you know you aren't the only fully conscious person in the universe?

Indeed it crops up a lot. How do you know that what you call, "Pain" is the same as what others call pain? Perhaps what you call "pain", other consider to be more a tickling sensation, or vice-versa.

The internet. I get how it works but would love to understand the physics of it. How does this information exist 'out there in the air' or whatever. Wrecks my head thinking about how so much can be transmitted through nothing. Does a video exist outside of the storage device if you are viewing on wireless?

All information in the web is stored in one form or another, even when you're viewing it.

You can think of wireless much like making noise.

When you shout something across the road to your mate, where does the sound go after it leaves your mouth, but before it hits his ears?

Yeah, like I have one perspective of, say, my parents' front room. But maybe others don't have that same perspective - maybe they see it a different way to me...

Sometimes if I'm walking somewhere, I'll look down at my legs and just think "Wouldya look at them go!" and it sort of wrecks my head that if I said "Legs! Stop!" that they wouldn't have to, I'd have to make some sort of very distinct decision and command in my head and then they would.

Say one computer is transferring to another, wireless over the same distance. Is there now a greater quantity of information (whatever the unit is, I dont know!) occupying the space of the soundwaves in the shouting example? I just dont understand in what state the information exists

This is because your legs don't have ears.

The information exists as electromagnetic waves. Now, ask me to define what an electromagnetic wave is and how *it* exists, is another matter entirely.

Here's something for you to chew on.

All computer code ever written, all it ultimately ever does, is change the colour of pixels on a screen.*

And how do you even know those colours are the same colours other people are seeing, huh, how d'ya know?!?

    *Except code that generates sound.

Not particularly original but the insignificance of my life no matter what I do. Even if I became the greatest person in the history of the world, cured AIDS, rode the lead singer from the pussy cat dolls... even if I did all that I still lose consciousness forever.

Although I have got a satisfying idea of what death is like in my head. Imagine armageddon - the whole universe is about to implode into nothing. It's on the news, everyone's out in their gardens hugging and saying goodbye. Then it happens, like the turning off of a television. Everbody's gone. The universe is gone in the blink of an eye. That feeling just as everything disappears is my idea of death.

But why you wanna make Earthhorse cry?

PS Guys, pretty sure all that stuff about colour is covered by philosophy under epiphenomenal qualia.
