i went to mcbrides when i was working in callan for a look rang him up as he had some ford classics for sale they arent at the scrapyard but in a yard in hugginstown, bit of a rough man alright big beard and always on the phone.
anyway went to the yard and in the big shed is about 40 or 50 classics, escorts, capris, cortinas, viva, old rover p6,p5,p4 triumph heralds etc all his prices were way over the top most of the escorts were oz imports and not as straight as you would imagine.
got no pics as i was escorted around by a gent who couldnt speak or wouldnt not sure which.

You mean always on two phones at the one time:eek:,I dont know how he does it, it would wreck my head.Yes he is a little rough around the edges:P and his customer service leaves alot to be desired;).He does not like people who cant make up their mind. You cant browse around on your own like you used any more but that's the way most scrappys are gone nowadays. He does have proper sign-age on the roads now though, unlike before which was just an ole handwritten sign on cardboard:D

I love classic cars as much as anyone else on here, but I for one, am delighted to see unlicensed scrapyards being closed down.

Lots of these places, including some pictured on this thread are nothing more than illegal waste dumping grounds, where engine oil, battery acids, ATF, antifreeze, and other such items leach into the ground and water tables.

Yes, I know many of these places have kept many cherished classics on the road, but at what cost?

I'm sure such places do exist, but in the case of the guy I'm on about they made him drain all fluids from the cars. From limited personal experience I did much better with said unlicensed guy. I got 5 beautiful alloys unmarked (and one with a practically new tyre!) along with a rake of other bits for €90.

A licensed place in Wexford sold me 4 wheels a couple of years ago for €90 and one of them is more square than round. They all came with 'farmyard special' tyres that promptly went pop, and not one of the alloys could be described as being in good condition. I think a lot depends on the chief mucker

Does anybody know where I can pick up a diesel carina II cheap enough from 1989-1992

For parts or repair as I have a White carina II I need a diesel engine and a few parts from the body! If I can pick up a clean one cheap enough I'd nearly drive it and leave mine for parts!
