The single biggest mistake in history?

It has to be something that people did, not a natural disaster, and it has to be something where the people responsible could have chosen to do something different.

I'll go with the shooting of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. An obvious one but we all know where it led.

Biggest mistake in history i would have to agree with two others and say the Atomic bomb. Maybe extend that to thinking about bombs that can destroy entire cities.
