Are you superstitious of numbers? If so steer clear!

So this is my 666th post. The number of the beast as some would say. (Actually it turns out 616 is the actual number of the beast but thats a story for another day!) So I was wondering what proportion of people buy into the superstition with regards to numbers.

    Do you avoid the sixes?

    Do you not like 13?

    Have you a lucky number?

Personally I don't buy into at all. In fact I play a bit of GAA and number 13 has been quite a good shirt for me. Has also worked well in a super sub format from the bench in soccer too! Despite that I wouldn't count is as my lucky number either. I don't think I have one. Maybe it's the fact that I use numbers and maths all day every day that I don't see the mystical side of them.*

    *Except Fermat's last theorem. ;)

There's a case for some numbers having energies, but mainly positive ones. 3 is supposed to be the number that enhances creativity and spirituality. Holy trinity, body/mind/soul, whatever way you want to look at it. Two poeple get togetehr to create a third.... Somehting like that anyway.

The negative/superstious numbers like 13 seem to be more old wives' tales kinda things.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

My husband and me have been haunted by the number 22. I don't even know where to start. It started when my hubbie said he always seemed to check the time on the digital display on our dvd player at 22.22. We both worked in a computer hard drive company where each drive had a serial number. My hubbie - Paddy noticed the number 2222 cropping up a lot during his workday. Then we started noticing other things-we went to Florida on hols. There's a taxi company there and the number includes 2222-at one point there were these cabs all around us - one in front, behind and one on either side. A bus eireann bus was in front of us in traffic and 22 22 was on the back window. We were walking down Grafton st one day and I was kicking a little black plastic cube thing-Paddy grabbed my arm and pointed at what i'd been kicking-it was a piece of a clothes hanger-size 22. We were watching an episode of Laurel and Hardy once where they were living next door to each other and two numbers were on the wall between their apartments-yes-22 22. Paddy went to use the bank machine in the store he works and he was the 2222nd customer to use it. An episode of 'Lost' a book falls from the sky with 22 on it. 'Coronation st' behind the counter in Roy's cafe check out what number is on the wall-22. I've a book on the Titanic and it says including passengers and crew there were 2222 souls on board. However though i've read other conflicting accounts, it's just typical that in my book that's the number stated. Paddy has a collection of photos on his phone of strange coincidences like from a football game on tv an Arsenal v United game two players stood for a few minutes as we were watching, each one wearing the number 22. We were in Salou this Summer on hols and we took a shortcut back to our apartment one day and passed a car parked with number plate 2222. Paddy had his lunch one day in a new cafe next to where he works and there were those numbers you put on your tray sitting on the counter and they were overlapping so they clearly said 2222-he sent the photo to me. Lately no matter how hot it is the temperature in our car is registering 22. Freaky yeah? I know as soon as i send this i'l think of more examples.

I hate the number 9 with a passion. It has brought me nothing but bad luck.

It started years back when i always had difficulty with the 9th hole on my local pitch n putt course. It was no more difficult than the other holes, yet it would always take me 6-8 shots to put the ball in the pin! Then my dog was killed on the 9/9/1995 around 9am in the morning. My grandfather died at 9.09pm on August 9th 1999. A few years ago i reversed over my dog, he was 9 years of age and i did it at 9.30pm in the evening! I wore the number 9 jersey in two county hurling finals, both of which my team lost. I have got at least 3 parking tickets on the 9th day of various months within the last few years. I generally try to stay clear of the number, it seems to have it in for me.

Its always been 4 for me, playin footie i refused to wear any other number, and if we ever have a kickabout ill always wear that shirt (we got to keep them)

Even playin GAA no matter what position i wore 4.

Not that any of it helped much, but thats another story for another time

    Why pray tell?

The number 13 (or 2/3 digit numbers which add up to 13) occurs in my life more than I would consider normal. I'm very well aware of the human tendancy to see patterns where none exists and to see importance in coincidences.

I know it's pure coincidence and I don't attach any particular importance to the number 13, but that doesn't stop the fact that I'm aware of it occuring more often for me in significant numbers - house numbers, IDs, hotel rooms, etc. I don't go looking for it.

If I do something like go to a gym and do reps I never would do reps of 13.

I never would set my alarm for 8:13, I'd go for 8:12 or 8:14, so I guess I'm a bit silly about this number.

I know in China your phone number is a status symbol. You pay infinitely more if you have a digit "8" within your number, while you can purchase a number much cheaper if it contains the digit "4" which signifies death. Must mean everyone in Ireland is a lucky baxtard then when we all have 085/086/087 numbers.:D

Well, ok, I was more referring to the kind of people who think it means something magical or weird, as if they're being haunted by it. Even still though, I find it disappointing that you can't just shake it off as silly and stop paying special attention to the number 13 when you see it.

    the number 2.

not scared of it but intrigued by it...

This really belongs in the "something strange" thread but I have a thing about uneven numbers. I can't have the volume on uneven numbers. I get a bit edgy when the hour is an uneven number. Many other silly things like that. It's odd cos my birthday is 31/3.

Strangely enough (as if my previous paragraph was too normal for you), my favourite and lucky number is 13.

It's been working it's way back from the good old days of the 088s.
First 087: Eircell which became Vodafone,
then 086: Esat Digifone which became O2
then 085: Meteor which regretably remained Meteor
    then 083: 3.
    Answer to your question: Marketing.

I find nothing superstitious about the number 666. I once had it on a phone number.

It is only mentioned once in the Bible and it referees to a mandatory "coded system of buying and selling". where one must receive a mark inserted in your hand or forehead in order to make a commercial transaction. The Bible forbids anyone to take such a mark as one would be giving their allegiance to the Devil if they accept it.

Eventually they may find it, though oddly enough there are suspicions that an odd number of them can be heard in this pub called infinity in Oddessa. The odds are stacked against them though.

You can buy your lucky mobile numbers in Ireland too now. There are quite a few on ebay. I bought one from seller connect2angels and happy enough. Each combination [including 666] is explained in non-evil way:-) I got myself 555 because I drive Subaru and also liked the meaning. I believe that there are no bad numbers.

I'm the opposite - I can't bear to have the volume of my TV or MP3 player on a multiple of 5. I really don't like the number 5. Not a superstition, just a weird thing I have.

I like the numbers 6, 11 and 14. Again, for no particular reason other than I'm strange.
