Too close a call for me since I'll only be back from Arc Angel the week before. Highly unlikely but just maybe I'll be able to go.

I'm definitely up for PR3 in November though.

Oh, and I'm seriously considering this for sh*ts and giggles: Operation Blue Squall. How often to you get to carry out an amphibious landing on an island populated only with other airsofters who are on the enemy team? :D

the problem with the airlines rules is they don;t seem to have been undated since the law change, there should be no reason why they can not carry them as there toy and legal and no danger, what carriers go out of cork anyway to the uk?

ryanair and air lingus would be probably the 2 most popular.

All airlines have procedures for handling firearms/paintball markers/airsoft devices/etc. It's usually found under special or restricted baggage criteria on their websites.

    horgan_p wrote: »

I've said this before until I was blue in the face. But for courtesy I'm going to say it again.

Do NOT ever, ever, EVER entertain notions of using Ryan Air.

They. Do. Not. Allow. Airsoft. Devices.

Total waste of time even discussing them as an airline in this context. As for Aer Lingus, my opinion of them has been rapidly re(de)valued after the additional charges "incurred" by transporting an airsoft device to the UK at the weekend, some 40-50% higher than their rivals (including budget carriers). €40 per flight.

    Just to make that clear in case I wasn't clear the first time because I honestly wince every time I see someone mention Ryan Air for travelling with AEGs;

Ryan Air. Do. Not. Allow. Airsoft. Devices. Discussing them as an option is, to put it bluntly, a complete f*cking waste of your time for suggesting & typing it, everyone else's time because it's a non-runner, and my time because I want to scream everytime I see it posted.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 2,610 Mod ✭✭✭✭horgan_p

i wasnt suggesting travel with them at all , just they the 2 largest carriers from cork to the u.k.

i'd rather take the ferry than ryanair

PR2 has now been moved back to the 6th & 7th of December.

    I'm so there.

Not only that, but it's also changed venue to the best place to airsoft in britain - Copehill Down Village.

    I'm there!

For those considering going; I traveled to this a few times now. I have to say the Ferry option was the better of the two options.

Cheers for the heads-up wormbyte, and good to see you again (well, virtually speaking) after Sweden. On a practical note for any ROI players travelling for PR2 (and TA events in general I guess), would it be possible to have a VCRA cover letter drafted that we could print off to show customs upon arrival in the UK to basically confirm that we're attending a skirmish event on dates x, y, z. etc.?

For the rest of you lot, Salisbury plain; nearest airports are Bournemouth & Southampton. Flybe serve a Dublin-Southampton route which did me nicely last year for Ground-Zero.

That said, this will be very much a case of book now, figure logistics later I think :pac:

Already covered in the website that should be going live today.

In a nutshell, the answer is yes.

It would have to be the van if you were bringing that beast of a M60. I should have my test in the next month at least. I hope. Christ I hate Ireland sometimes.

I don't know if I'll bring the M60 to this. It'll be dependent on a couple of factors. But you can always cut a hole in the roof of the car; I'll stand ;)

The rules for PR2 specify a limit of 500fps for snipers.

    I make that 152m/s in real money and that's 2.32J for a .2g BB and 3.25J for a .28g.

We'll still defeat them with better tactics, but what's their reach?

(Before anyone piles in - I got a special dispensation to ask in this specific context. It's a legitimate safety & tactical question for this event and I'd like to know what we're getting into. Especially as a first-time traveller. It may be a non-issue, but I'd like to at least ask.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 269 ✭✭ASI Casper

The 500fps will be based on a .2g BB.

You'll find the sniper rifles to be few and far between at Copehill Down. And even then, not many of them will be firing at the full 500fps.

As for their practical range though, I'm afraid I wouldn't know. Don't forget though, in December, it could be fairly windy ( especially as it's on a large plain ). If it is, you can pretty much forget worrying about snipers, they'll be using something else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 175 ✭✭jinko

well im definatly in for this one. i reckon i will go with armenian as i have the gear for it also im taking the ferry as my first option. takes longer but a lot more comfortable :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

Probably more likely to see long arms and dmr's on a windy day there than bolties. Is there an increased limit for semi only aegs?

    www.ta-events.co.uk

They have all the rules on the website. Please read it!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

Yes but there's no clarification on the site as whether a semi-only capable marksmans rifle would count as a "semi auto sniper rifle" (their exact words). Since some DMR's are semi only but are AEG's, it's kind of a grey area.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 311 ✭✭NakedHedgehog

    It does actually.

A semi-automatic rifle is a type of rifle that fires a single bullet each time the trigger is pulled, without the need to manually operate a bolt, lever, pump or other firing or loading mechanism. (for convenience sake taken from wikipedia).

So in terms of Airsoft it includes AEGs that fire a single shot each time the trigger is pulled and cannot be set to fire more than one shot (e.g. Burst or Auto). It is not specifically a bolt action, though bolt-actions are included in the rules, though not actually mentioned.

In actual fact the rule is pretty clear on the semi-auto thing- if there is a grey area it's for bolt-action since they're not specifically mentioned.

But in any case the minimum engagement distance is 25 metres.

If you have an AEG that you cannot set to fire more than one BB per trigger pull and it satisfies the "sniper" criteria (which a DMR would as long as you're not taking the mick, e.g. MP5 with a sniper scope) then you may fire at 500FPS once you're on site and you may only fire if your target is at least 25 meters away from you. In other words, you wont be kicking in doors with that rifle at the ready.

They take that very seriously- at PR1 a guy was booted off the site for shooting someone in the face at less than 25 metres with a 500 FPS semi-auto.

I see where there may be some confusion. But this is a mil-sim event. The rules are quite simple. If it's a DMR, Squad Support Weapon, etc. in real life it's a go. Otherwise it's not.

So, an M4 CQB model with a sniper scope would not be considered a DMR - neither would a M4 with a boxmag be considered a support weapon. However something along the lines of an SPR (with Single shot ONLY) would be fall into the Semi-Auto category.

Anyway, if you have an AEG and you have a question about what role it would fall into, you can always take a picture and post it up on the TA-Events community forums. Wormbyte or one of his staff will give you a definite answer.
That pretty much goes for everything else as well. They are really good with answering questions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,045 ✭✭✭OzCam

    1. Did you mean assault rifles and DMRs? :)

If it looks like we might be short of snipers (can't imagine that happening), I can always bring the SSG. We can let the "expedition coordinator" decide nearer to the departure date.

    2. It'd be deadly if we all turned up in Curragh Shamrock.

    3. I'm working on a subdued version of a Tricolour patch. There's a company in the US who will make patches up in quite small quantities and they've done stuff like this before. Our flag has one major tactical disadvantage in that white and orange aren't exactly inconspicuous. I'm thinking that Olive Drab, Light Grey and Tan might work as these are camo colours already. Comments anyone?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 311 ✭✭NakedHedgehog

I came across a subdued irish patch somewhere recently. Let me see if I can dig it up again.

    Edit:
Here it is. It's subdued on multi-cam. That said, it could be any country :)

Not really subdued though is it?
That said - in CDV a little flag is not going to get you killed -- airstrikes and mortar shelling will :)

(Also, going off topic here) :)

Not really off topic is it. Although I do think you might have problems with the milsim aspect if you start running around with a Irish flag draped over you like a cape.

Hey Lemming, your used to carrying the awkward things now right? Fancy a bit of power rangers style house breaching? We can tri-colour the m60.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 311 ✭✭NakedHedgehog

My bad - I thought we were in the other topic :)
A Tri-coloured M60? It's certainly big enough to be almost the size a real flag :)

    Thanks Hedge.

That isn't too bad, and would look fine on a multicam uniform. I might just buy one anyway. The "Italian" flag beside it looks more like ours... the 3rd field is supposed to be a proper red like the French flag.

The MC wouldn't look great against ACU or woodland. My idea of using the Olive/Grey/Tan combo was that it would look at least ok on most modern uniforms. I need a constructive opinion here from someone with camo or graphic design experience.

(Other posters: we can get standard flags anywhere, the point is to design a better subdued one.)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 311 ✭✭NakedHedgehog

Agreed, it would look a bit silly on anything green based.

What most countries that have subdued (and white in their flag) seem to be doing is having the white being "transparent". So they have a base colour of the patch and just leave out the white colour bit, so it adopts the background. Not that it matters in this case- it's just another colour :)

It's a tough flag to get subdued alright :) Probably why they haven't done it yet.

    But...
OD, Grey (e.g. Hong Kong SAR OD in that flag list) and a dark tan (e.g. Portugal subdued, the "red" portion) would work well I think.

so what side are most people going to be on? our group of about 7-10ish are all multicam and similar.,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 269 ✭✭ASI Casper

There'll be a high likelyhood of the ASI lot all being on one side as that's what has happened at previous events even when they've been given free choice.
As to which side that will be this time is currently unknown, but traditionally, we've always been on the 'green' side as that's what most our lot have had.

I should point out, as it hasn't been made clear on the TA website (yet), it's only the clothing colour that attributes team side. The colour of webbing / vests is ignored.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

do ya think we shold ahve a poll here to see whos going in what? so mosr of they know each other could go in similar gear to be on the same team maybe.,

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 311 ✭✭NakedHedgehog

I'm going with the ASI Group preference.
That will most likely end up being Armenian/NKR (OD, Woodland, etc.).
