    You work there? Cool!

I've never been but a friend has and loved it. We were supposed to go to the Burlesque Ball but it fell through. :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,314 ✭✭✭Talliesin

    Didn't know it was on.

Really should go to one some time soon. With so many twats around with the most bizarre ideas as to what burlesque is, it'd be good to see some proper burlesque again.

i WAS gonna ask what the Tassle Club was, but since i'm a twat i think i'll relinquish my question :p

I dont mind being thought of as a twat (probably not far off the mark)

    What is a Tassel Club?

The Tassel Club is an Irish cabaret and burlesque troupe. They usually perform around once a month in different places like The Button Factory and The Sugar Club.

It was excellent! Great fun! Next one's on September 27th - you should go!

I'll put it down provisionally but please don't get too disappointed if I'm not there.

Is it a ticket'd affair or just pay on the door?

Ah they're only 15. What do they know?

My friend's little sister got into that place, she's 16! I remember being up in my local shop too during lunch-time and there were school-kids there. They were talking about the craic they had in Barcode during the weekend, these kids were no more than 3rd years!

They're going to get their asses shut down if any of them do something stupid like drinking too much and ending up in hospital.

Have you not been there man? I'm shocked that they haven't been closed down already. Fights every weekend, and I swear at times all out brawls on the dancefloor at the end of the night!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 848 ✭✭✭Dinxminx

It's a ticketed event. You can also pay at the door but the chances of getting tickets are slim, it's usually a sell-out.

I'm not one of the performers, just an usherette! Really though, if you ever needed an excuse to wear a waistcoat and carry a cane, or lace yourself into a corset and wear evening gloves, this would be it. It is a LOT of fun!

I sound like an advertisement now, but I'm just so hooked on the whole thing...

    Hey guys,

There's alot of talk of Fibbers, Bruxelles, Foggy Dew, Tassle club etc in the forum at the mo, which is to be completely expected!

This thread is to talk about/recommend places for creatures of the night to go.

    Fire away. :)

Well then, Doomsie, I might even see you at the next one....?

I wouldn't bother TBH. It's not like I'm some uber goth that won't go where the "norms" go, but barcode is, from all accounts, not a very nice place.

And they're not even the cool ones like in Fibbers ;)

Gotta agree with you there :D
But fights turn me off completely, cavan is bad enough for them already. Don't need any in Dublin.

Not so much. fake tan smells and I'm a brunette.

Darn it anyway! I'll have to stick to watching Battlestar Galactica at home!

I knew it was time to give up fibbers as a regular haunt when I was in the ladies one night and there was some young girl on her knees talking to god on the great while telephone and by the shoes, stripey tights and the rhythm of swearing I knew it was my then 17 year old sister.
    That was 10 years ago.
I've popped in and out at least twice a year from then and the place as steadily gotten worse.

And yet it doesn't scare the likes of my mates from getting off with random girls in BC:(

I'm the same. About once a year and I always come out wondering why I bother. It's just not the place for me anywhere.

If I want to do the metal thing it's usually bruxies for me.

The fear of jail time keeps me out of Bar Code... Redz... Club 21... and pretty much half the places in town.

:D I've been there a few times and it seems okay, but what I don't like about it and its something I've noticed elsewhere in town too, the ceilings are too low.

    Cause its designed for kids...
But seriously, night clubs could do with hiring proper bouncers.

I would assume some night clubs simply don't care who is paying as long as they do, indeed pay.

Proper bouncers in what sense? If you mean getting rid of Bouncers who use dumb excuses like "sorry don't know your face" then I 100% agree.

Strangely enough, the nightclubs in cavan are better with stopping kids than in dublin...unfortunately the nightclubs themselves are kind of crap =(
Doesn't stop the kids trying though, hahaha.

You can't blame kids for wanting to grow up.

That doesn't mean people shouldn't stop them from doing stoopid things though.

Aye, seen too many of the dumb bastards fighting in the streets (had a few pushed by friends people out INTO the street in front of oncoming traffic...
But the trying to get into clubs I can understand, we all did that I suppose ;)

    aye and myself added.

Only decent places i've been to in the whole of Dublin are Bruxelles and Zanzibar, as there were no little shams in them, thus no fighting outside and inside :)

I steer well away from the usual crapholes like Redz/Citibar/21's/Tramco etc in town.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,635 ✭✭✭tribulus

Never been to Bruxelles actually, must go sometime. I liked Zanzibar anytime I was there, nice and open.

I was at Crawdaddys before on a Thursday where they played loads of house tunes, thought it was great, mightn't be to everyone's taste though.

As for Barcode, uughh, my girlfriends mate is extremely well known there lol. It's not a great place to go but it's free in and thanks to a bit of luck in where I train, I now know the bouncers who work there :)

+1 i've not been there but the scare stories put me off, jailbait everywhere, not my thing really.

Ah, I've no gripe with 21s, never seen a fight there, worst that happened was that a couple came over to where myself and my girlfriend were sitting, and the girl started giving the guy a handjob, hahaha...the bouncer that had to make them stop looked quite uncomfortable.

Exactly, while letting in under agers no questions asked cause they're showing some leg.
You know bouncers with moral fiber (not many these days).
