    Actually serving hours for most pubs is 00:30 unless you seek an extension which the new 'Intoxicating Liquor Act 2008' is a lot stricter and more difficult to get. Clubs get a later closing time (i'm not 100% on what it is though sorry) I believe its 02:30/03:00 . :pac:

    Town was packed one second, then I'd say within minutes, it was like a ghost town, and there was millions of free taxi's. It was so weird.

    They are doing it to try and stop violence in the street when everyone comes out, but its just gonna lead to more and street drinking, people wont have as much time in the pub so they will drink faster and some will even go to clubs already tipsy. Its a stupid idea and shouldnt be allowed.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 276 ✭✭July

    some will even go to clubs already tipsy.

    Don't most people go to a club already tipsy! Or is that just me and the crowd I go out with?! When we were in college, we used to just get drunk in someone's house and go straight to the club.

    Now that we're more mature* we get drunk in pubs first!

    *older, anyway

    i was out on thursday and there were at least a hundred free taxis on camden street. far too many licences for taxis have been issued!

    having everything close at 2.30 is a total waste. if anything violence will increase. people will not be happy getting kicked out then... it will be prime clobbering time!

    I'm sorry but this has to be the stupidest way to look at earlier closing times. I'd take the bet that someone is more than likely to get into a fight because of those 1-3 more drinks they had in the extra time they would have had if the club was open to 3 than if they are a bit annoyed at being chucked out early.

    Unfortunately neither case is true, fights erupt due to people and their attitudes. Some people are just out drinking looking for a fight whether its an excuse of some personal troubles they might be going through or just because they want to feel big by trouncing someone weaker/smaller than them. Neither is acceptable in this day and age, if your having personal or psychological problems there are professionals out there ready to help, if your just a retard of a person looking for a fight I hope you pick a fight that turns round and bites you in the ass!

    Who the bloody hell thought it was a good idea to release 250,000 drunk people onto the streets of a (drastically under policed) city, all with the exact same objectives of

    * Get Laid
    * Get Home

    Oh.. and there is a limited amount of transport for all of you...

    Oh Yea... That will stop the alcohol related injuries and crime..

    The absolute stupidity of this government seriously just annoys the living piss out of me.

    Honestly.. How do they think this is going to help with anything??
    closing the offfies early.. How is that helping anything???

    I think this is just some stupid vote generation ploy.
    It's to get the over 40 upper middle classes.

    "Lets inconvenience a whole lot of people for no productive reason just so it looks like were doing something proactive with a situation that we don't understand"

    This misplaced, uninformed nanny state crap really twists my fúcking biscuit..

    Everyone should just refuse to leave night clubs and bring guns and force the barmen to keep serving and the DJ to keep the music playing. I think the Government will eventually get the message.

    I think we should just fucking wreck the place every weekend.
    Start fires and loot and flip cars and just cause general mayhem as a protest until they change these stupid laws.
    How could the government possibly think these things work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,589 ✭✭✭Hail 2 Da Chimp

    Closing the pubs and off licenses early smacks of desperation, looks like the next step may be prohibition.
    I would like the govenrment to actually do something worthwhile about anti-social behaviour rather than a blanket ban on the sales of alcohol after a certain time.
    I'd like to see more cops on the street at closing time and scumbags actually be punished for anti-social behaviour instead.

    Seriously? This will not change the quantity people will drink. The majority of alcohol is consumed before people go out and then they have a few in the club to keep it going in my opinion. They will start drinking earlier. People won't be any sober now at 2.30 now they they were at 3.30 a month ago. They will drink just as much as they always have. All this can acheive is having even more people on the streets after clubs then ever. Think about it, the longer a club is open, people will be able to leave gradually, not everyone wants to hang around until closing. At two thirty the club will still be full!

    Friday night...

    We started @ D2... 30mins then Dicey Riley's 10mins and then Kyrstle... the whole night! Considering we go into D2 @ 11 and all it was a short night!

    And women grab a****:eek::confused:

    How much are plane tickets to Germany?

    How much are plane tickets to Germany?

    If you take what you pay for a night out in Germany and subtract it from the equivalent amount you pay for a night out in Ireland then you will have more than the value of the plane ticket... I kid you not!!

    I think they should have two rules.. something like this:

    Clubs can serve alcohol until 3pm at the latest.
    Clubs have to stay open for at least 2 hours after they stop serving alcohol.

    That way there's a two hour period where people can either drink water/minerals etc and keep dancing, or can go home, so you don't have everyone leaving clubs at the same time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,283 ✭✭✭PrivateEye

    My Dad works on the ambulance (through the Fire Brigade) , and generally speaking among them the word that comes to mind when the curtain closing time is mentioned is 'carnage'

    Spilling all them people on to the streets at once....
    Predictable series of events will follow, probably outside a chipper or taxi rank. At the minute you've people coming out of clubs at various times, meaning most of the crowd who just left club X are already on the nitelink/in a taxi or whaever else by the time club Y closes.

    Which means prices go up to cover the money they're losing in the final 2 hours. Brilliant.

    True. I was at a stag in Hamburg a few weeks ago and thinks were so much better than here in Ireland for socialising etc. I got cheap flight to Bremen on ryanair and there wa sa bus waiting for the flight to take me 100km to Hamburg city centre for around 12euro and only took an hour on autobahn. 4 star hotel was only 80euro a night. Reeperbahn was open all night with pubs clubs and food outlets. No trouble seen at all all weekend. I bought a bottle of jargeimeister in esso on reepherbahn at 6am in morning and staff did'nt bat an eyelid. Public transport was great and ran all hours. No rip offs. We are really miles behind and going backwards in IReland on these issues.

    If you think it is bad now you have seen nothing yet. Wait until this new computerised national ID card is in full swing, You will have to flash this card by law in order to buy drink as a form of ID irrespective of age. (Just as they have been doing in the States for decades).

    You could be refused drink at any off license or be denied access into any pub or night club if the card shows up "RED" i.e. under age, (Probably by then 21 years old) any "drink related offences" i.e. drink driving, drunk and disorderly conduct etc.

    The state could then impose a purchase limit of 6 cans per person per night in another attempt to stamp out unofficial "rouge parties" and "binge drinking". :eek:
