    Retief Goosen

    Boo Weekly

    Zach Johnson

and I'm not gambling, paddy power has taken enough off me this year, although harrington winning the open did make up for some of it :D

Singh and Cink maybe for E/W value.

This one can tend to throw up an unexpected winner.

I'm going to go for Bubba Watson or Woody (choker) Austin.

Westwood has been in a rich vein of form lately. I'd love to see him land this one. Hopefully he gets streaky with the putter.

Mickelson is the one now that the "other" man is not playin...
It is hard to believe how far ahead he is to the rest now. It is only that the "other" man is so far ahead of him that you dont notice!!
I really think that its there sitting up for lefty to collect but you know golf.. Anything can happen..
The others in the frame are..
    1. Goosen- Ice flows thru this guys veins and these greens are gonna need that in a guy. A Par 70 does not yield many birdies but the goose has the game for this.
    2. Poulter- Its a hugely controversial choice but hey I love this guy. He has sipped from the cup of glory but he really wants a gulp! Has the game, the temperment, the attitude and the will to take it to the top.
    3. Allenby- Has been in a huge vein of form of late and can mix it with the best.
    4. Kim- His all round game suits this scenario. He is solid in all areas and can win from the front or in the chase. A cert for Ryder Cup glory and may take this just to prove that!!
    5. Villegas- His swash buckling antics at Birkdale caught the imagination of all and had every one watching. He is not afraid of the front either and should be in the shake up come Sunday.

History is against a non-American win.

Would love to see Harrington do it, Clarke will come good some day soon.

Lefty to win but odds are not attractive, few euro on Mahan might not be bad bet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,798 ✭✭✭Mister Sifter

Hunter Mahan and Garcia have my few quid for the week. I'll do my usual 1 euro on Monty but i've zero expectations of him even making the cut let alone winning the thing.

    Gone with -

    Westwood - Form Horse
Clarke - Patriotic to a fault
Di Marco - Course form and played well last week

Not much hubbub about the final major of the year. Should be exciting with a lot of players in with a good chance. Would love to see Harrington have a good run at it. 3 good rounds for him last week. I'll go for Michelson to win - such a great player to watch imo. As an outsider, I'd pick Ross Fisher.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,987 ✭✭✭Trampas

big phil is still asleep 2 over after 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,063 ✭✭✭Adiaga 2

Yeah Ross Fisher +2 also :pac:

Robert Karlsson started with a double then had 4 birdies in his next 5 holes. He has top 10s in all the majors so far this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,987 ✭✭✭Trampas

awake now birdie on 3rd. the 10th seems a hard hole. alot of bogies on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,080 ✭✭✭kenco

    Westwood to win
Perry and Kim for top 5s

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,571 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

    Have money on

    Harrington
    Clarke
    Poulter
    Ames
    Scott

Fancy them all to do quite well...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,225 ✭✭✭JCDUB

Stuck a few quid on Appleby e/w, 45's in PP, worth it for the place alone I reckon.
It's startin on SKy now in 10 minutes..

    Perfect start for Harrington

    Harrington crazy stuff

    After 1st hole -1
    After 2nd hole -2
    After 3rd hole -3

He hit the bloody flag on the par three third!!! He should have had a hole in one! Can't believe it, couldn't be any better of a start!!!

hmmmm I dunno, the perfect start would probably have included a slight twinge of his elbow ;)

Great stuff, he was a tad lucky with the third hole, but that's what the pin is for if you can hit it! ;)

It's amazing how people think, I am not a fan of his and his temperment is suspect to be honest. He did great in the Open, but has bottled a lot of tournaments before. He has attitude and a decent game but I couldn't see him winning this or any Major.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

Could be -4 after four for PH with that approach!

Edit: Putt never broke, he'll be a little disappointed with that read, still nice to be -3 after four. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 393 ✭✭BillyBoy

Put your money on Harrington and Scott lads. I was going to put money on them but decided not to, so they are guaranteed to win now!! Happened with Harrington in the Open and Immelman in the Masters. Was going to back them both but talked myself out of it and put my money on some other donkey instead!! Typical!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,751 ✭✭✭newballsplease

how is he guaranteed to win??? anything could happen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

I think it was tongue-in-cheek, as he didn't back them. ;)

Another great approach and birdie chance on 5.

I know it's only Thursday, and there's a lot of golf to be played, but if he keeps this up he's in with a real chance. He seems to be playing with a real confidence and spring in his step and the second major means that he'll never have to worry about that one-major club.

Great start from Paddy. -3 after 5 holes. I hope he doesn't get down on himself after missing gettable putts on the last 2 holes. The wind seems to be picking up which will suit him down to the ground as he likes a course to be playing tough. Clarke's had a couple of birds in the opening 3 holes also, but missed the green long and left on the last and doubled the hole so he's a couple over now. Keep it going lads - 4 steady rounds will win this.

If Podge can finish around Even Par that would set him up nicely for the second round.

EDIT -1 now. A little careless at the 8th but nice second shot. Leader Goosen -4.

It's not easy playing with those slaves' shackles around his ankles i suppose.

I had a few quid on him too... spend it wisely Mr Power.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,063 ✭✭✭Adiaga 2

He's probably happy now that he'll be able to order a Dominos and play his Xbox while all those Ryder Cup suckers are at their fancy dinners. :D

horror show for my picks and most other from what ive read

    cink + 5 struggling
    perry + 9 gone
westwood + 7 from reading his interview i think he's just interested in his holliers
furyk +1 good old jim, will never be gone after round 1 (he'll just wait till sat to break my heart)

for anyone wanting to watch harrington's round live at the moment he's the featured group being shown on skysports.com at: http://www.skysports.com/golf/microsites/story/0,23730,14918_3944290,00.html
currently +1 after 5holes playing with Cabrera & Immelman

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 517 ✭✭✭lisbon_lions

Thanks for that, Harrington needs to get of that bogey streak. 3 in a row now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

Harrington finished +5 after 36 holes. Will make the cut. Current leader is -2. He'll disappointed with a 74 today, really put a dent in his chances.

I fancy Robert Karlsson to be there or thereabouts at the death. He's the only player to have top ten finishes in the three majors this year, this could be his calling.

You put the kiss of death on him there, hes havin a 'mare +6 for 10 holes...
    J. B. Holmes is sittin pretty in the clubhouse..isnt he the guy who change his name from John Holmes to avoid being confused with the porn star!? :p

If Sergio can keep his head he'll be in great position over the weekend to finally bag his first major

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,798 ✭✭✭Mister Sifter

He's my favourite player by a mile, but Colin Montgomerie can't possibly go to the Ryder Cup.

His game, and attitude, is shocking at the minute.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,472 ✭✭✭stockdam

McDowell's had a great round today.

    Villegas is the new Ballesteros.
