5 Bears vs 10 Lions

Haven't had one of these threads in a while.

The bears are fully grown grizzlies.

I reckon the bears because a bear could shrug off a few blows, whereas one blow on a lion and that lion isn't getting up imo. Gotten quite divided views on this one so far though.

2 lions to each grizzly..take him from behind(I won't be saying that again in a hurry)

    win for the lions tbh.

Bears don't really deliver blows tho, they grab on and maul. Whereas lions go for the throat or back or the neck and work in packs. The fact that there are twice as many lions - I'd put my house on the kittehs.

And i can't believe I'm replying to such a lame thread. Time for bed I think.

Lions are powerful and fast. However Bears make up for it with raw power and tenacity. And, they are cuddlier.

I think it would be the lions.

I've seen one tiger attack a crocodile and it was ruthless!

The bears would make short work of a few mountain lions.

the bears would eat them all for breakfast and then go off.....for breakfast.

    Bears are clearly more intelligent.

Nobody specified the type of lion. African Lions or NorthWestern Mountain Lions (aka. Cougar/Puma/Panther)?

    Atari jaguar!

My money is on the bears, so long as they are proper Grizzly bears, with hairy ar$es and bad attitudes.

If you are talking about them Kung Fu Panda types ... Lions ftw.

Think the Lions would definitely come off best since they are a pack animal and would probably work together. Would probably end up in a situation where the Lions take down a few bears then make a coordinated retreat to safety.

    they have opposite mentalities.
a lion is more likely to attack you if you run away
a bear is more likely to attack you if you hold your ground or approach it
according to the stories I've read anyway.

several hundred thousand jaguars would easily win due to their overwhelming numerical advantage.

I think tigers are bigger then lions but I'm not sure so bears ftw

    Its been settled:
The Californians of the late 19th century staged well-documented pit fights with grizzlies and spanish bulls. The grizzlies, using their paw as a club, shattered the unfortunate bull’s skull or shoulder bones so easily that the betting became poor.

Eventually, and at considerable cost, African lions were brought in to raise the stakes. The most fierce of the adult males was sent in whilst the grizzly was already waiting in the pits. The lion was known for bravely charging straight in and looked good for the money, but the grizzly killed a male lion almost as easily as he’d killed the bull.

lions are good for speed but their strength and stamina are not up to scratch.

Grizzly bears are ****ing enormous. The lions wouldn't stand a chance.

The lions and it would be done and dusted quite quickly as well.

The title is misleading. Mountain lions are not lions. Cougar is the correct name for them. 10 real lions would savage 5 grizzlys. 1 lion would savage 1 grizzly. 10 cougars would beat 5 grizzlies IMO.

The thing is if the bear was willing to fight one or two smacks could have crushed the cougars skull (as sourced above).

    Lions can kill elephants.

If anyone is really interested I can dig up a link to a video of about six lions going to town on an elephant (they fail, but they got a baby one).

This is ridiculous. Everyone knows that King Kong resembled a bear on his hind legs and he destroyed a city. If you scale it down, a miniature King Kong (bear) would throttle a miniature city (village). 5 bears could probably even handle a small town. Have you seen how much dynamite it takes to blow up a small town in the old WWII movies? That much dynamite would defo kill 10 lions so 5 bears are clearly the winner.

The bears would win hands down.
One swipe from a bear would easily take down a lion.

Lions hunt in packs and would probably attack one bear at a time. Which would leave 4 bears to tear into the lions.

Voted for lions but realise now mountain lions.......so it would be bears defo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,476 ✭✭✭Riddle101

The bears would win, Lions or preferable Cats are cowardly creatures, and would ruyn in the sight of major danger espeically if it's larger then it, also i've seen a lion take on a tiger and the tiger won so if a lion couldn't take on a tiger what makes you think it's going to take a bears, and since it's two to a bear then the bears would easily overpower them and kill them

It wouldnt matter if they were 10 of the most ferocious african lions you could call into service, the bear wins. Check my link in page 1: apparently californian's already did those kind of pit-fights in the 1900s. bears have little problem in crushing the offending lion's skull.

They did it with mountain lions first (obviously) but when nobody would bet on the mountain lions anymore they went the whole 9 yards, imported a few african lions, but those too were killed about as quickly as the mountain lions. Bulls also got pwnt.

also we have to factor in 10 vs 5 - theres pack mentality issues but also:
Male grizzly bears can reach weights of 454.5 kilograms (1,000 pounds) and stand 2.44 metres (8 ft) tall on their hind legs; the females are on average 38% smaller

these bears can run at speeds of up to 40 kilometers per hour (25 miles per hour).
Weights for adult lions generally lie between 150–227 kg (330–500 lb) for males[35], and 123–182 kg (270–400 lb) for females.

Head and body length is 170–250 cm (5 ft 7 in – 8 ft 2 in) in males and 140–175 cm (4 ft 7 in – 5 ft 9 in) in females; shoulder height is about 121 cm (4 ft) in males and 98 cm (3 ft 3 in) in females. The tail length is 70–100 cm (2 ft 3 in – 3 ft 3 in)

although lionesses can reach speeds of 59 km/h (40 mph),[60] they can only do so for short bursts
Each grizzly would tower over 2 lions and is built like a tank.
