I'll be going on Friday aswell. It's my first time photographing anything like this so I'm kind of nervous. Nice shots Borderfox.

Borderfox, will you be using your remote triggered rig this week?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,263 ✭✭✭✭Borderfox

I might use it over in Simmonscourt, dont know about the main arena. EPS are usually the only ones able to use remotes :(

I used them last weekend at the South County show in Coilog and they worked out great. I got exactly the shot I was looking for..

Anyone know if there are any restrictions for a "lay" person regarding type of camera etc. I have a canon 5d, and am heading to the show on Saturday. I do photography for fun, so would not be selling them or anything - will I be ok?

Nice shots, love the timing of the first one, captured the moment before impact, how did you get "backstage" at the RDS do you have accreditation?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,263 ✭✭✭✭Borderfox

No restriction on cameras as far as I know, I got washed this morning over in Simmonscourt but still a good day..

Both shots were with a Canon 1dmk3 with a Sigma 120-300 f2.8 EX using AIServo

amazing that these guys, Macken and Skelton, are still performing at the top level. i remember as a kid going to see them. One sport where age is not a factor. Well for the rider anyways...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,385 ✭✭✭Jemmy

Great shots guys, ill have to stick up some of mine at the end of the wk!

I stayed away from the old pros, and followed the young ones!
Gotta love the crazy lil ponies! :D

Got some of the big stuff too tho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,048 ✭✭✭RoryW

A few from today. I also got some of the horses.

The guy in the middle of the first photo has a "go ahead punk make my day" pose about him!

I think age is not a factor but fitness is. A family member of mine started endurance riding at the age 56 and went on to world level the year after. That's 120km to 160km distance for a CEI ** or *** distance in one day!

I used to work in the RDS and I have seen this guy there on 3 or
4 occasions. Any time there is an art exhibition he is also there. I got
a great look at his stuff when everyone was gone home. Really nice
    landscape photos also.

your photo of the horserider and the 4 spectator with the plastic over them is VERY similar to the one on page 8 of the Sunday Tribune today but attributed to Julien Behal/PA.

I didnt see that, Julien was standing right beside me and took one almost identical to mine, his is more centred and has the four ladies and rider in centre of shot..
Julien is a top class photog and I was shadowing him for the day... The next copy of Time Magazine has one of Juliens shot on the front cover.. A massive honour..
