Since the variety of window managers and themes etc. for linux is really broad perhaps a screenshot thread is in order?

    boards-2.jpg

System montior is conky. Using Emerald theme manager.

Compared to what others have I know its pretty basic, just thought I'd get the ball rolling.

I too prefer the simple, elegant approach to a desktop, instead of the overloaded and overcrowded mess that you see some people with.

    Using compiz and awn.

Heres a link to the moomex theme and wallpaper that I'm using if anyone is interested.

Got a coffee theme at the moment.

Info in the terminal. I really like those Lila Icons in the file browser.

I still haven't moved to 4.X, its not really up to scratch for my work needs yet, so 3.5 it is for the time being.

    4.1 is a big improvement over 4.0.

aye, I will give it a twirl, I dont like plasma so far, I've had the kda-ga going for a while, but always went back to 3 anyway. I will give 4.1 another go I spose just to see if it brings anything nice.

Running Kubuntu 8.04 recently moved from Ubuntu 8.04.

I can't get into the compiz/flashy window manger thing so its just plain vanilla KDE 3.5 with conky.

Nothing very exciting, just a fairly standard Ubuntu 8.04 (1440 X 900 in reality)with Conky and compiz. My terminal is running a little script to download xkcd comics that I wrote.

    How about this rocking desktop:
    66860467463806676171_thumb.png

Seriously tho - when I'm on my computer I'm not looking at the desktop at all. I usually have Firefox on the left screen and either a console or Eve on the right screen. So I can't be bothered customising the background that I never see.

    attachment.php?attachmentid=103508&stc=1&d=1264442176

I recently installed the GNOME SLAB menu in an effort to merge my two panels into one so as to optimize "desktop real estate". Its has some advantages such as a good control centre, but its not very responsive and getting into other programs is time consuming. I will go back to the drawing board sometime.

In breaking with the standard here for wallpapers to be graphics, the image is a photo of the cathedral in Cobh! And the theme is Shiki.

I also have to put up this next one...

    attachment.php?attachmentid=103509&stc=1&d=1264442176

This used to be my login screen before I tried Ubuntu 9.04. Even though I was the only one who used Ubuntu at the time I had the login screen come up anyway cause it looks so ... cool!

Is World of Goo as great as they say? I only played the demo and it seems a pretty standard puzzler.

So here's mine just now on Ubuntu Karmic. The theme is Elementary which obviously borrows heavily from Mac OSX for inspiration. Click on the picture to embiggen it:

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Didn't even think about that when I installed it....I swear.
Although I have to admit, I was well fond of the golly bars
back in the day:o Ah, the joys of political correctness.

It's a pretty fun game. I have had it since feb 2009 and still play
it. There are plenty of user maps too so it's well worth the few bob.
Beats playing FPS all the time.

I have actually reverted back to that desktop as of last week...
    WOG ftw !!!
